I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts prepared for a company that is dormant for Companies House purposes — meaning it has had no significant accounting transactions during the relevant accounting period. They are a simplified set of accounts compared with those of an actively trading company, but they are still a formal Companies House filing. The exact format and the filing route available can vary depending on the company's circumstances and the applicable Companies House rules, so it is not safe to assume every dormant company uses the same form or approach. Part of our job is to check which route fits your company rather than applying a one-size-fits-all template.
A company is generally treated as dormant for Companies House purposes when it has no significant accounting transactions in an accounting period. That is a narrower test than simply 'not trading'. Some transactions are normally disregarded when assessing dormancy, such as a filing fee paid to Companies House or shares taken by subscribers on incorporation, while other activity in the accounts may mean the company does not qualify as dormant for that period. Dormancy is also assessed period by period, so a company could be dormant for one year and not the next.
In most cases, yes. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes will generally still need to file annual accounts, unless it has been formally dissolved or a specific rule applies to its situation. Being dormant is not the same as being exempt from all filing requirements. If you are unsure what applies to your company, it is worth checking your position before the filing date rather than afterwards, because the obligations are driven by the company's own circumstances and the rules in force at the time.
Yes, in most circumstances. A confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing from dormant company accounts, and it is normally required even where the company has not traded. It confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company — such as the registered office address, directors, and shareholders — is still correct. Filing dormant company accounts does not replace the confirmation statement, and filing a confirmation statement does not replace the annual accounts. Both are separate obligations that run alongside each other.
No, they are separate concepts with different tests and different authorities. Dormancy for Companies House purposes is assessed against the annual accounts and the significant accounting transactions test, while dormancy for Corporation Tax purposes is a matter for HMRC and depends on its own criteria. A company can be dormant for one purpose but not automatically for the other. Filing dormant company accounts with Companies House does not notify HMRC of dormancy and does not by itself change your Corporation Tax position, so the two should always be considered side by side.
It depends on the company's circumstances and on HMRC's view of its position. A Corporation Tax Return (CT600) is an HMRC obligation and is entirely separate from dormant company accounts filing at Companies House. Filing dormant accounts does not automatically deal with Corporation Tax, and it does not mean the company has stopped having Corporation Tax responsibilities. If you are unsure whether a return is expected for your company, it is best to check with HMRC or take advice on your specific situation.
We normally need the company's basic details, the accounting period the accounts cover, the previous year's accounts or filing history where available, and a clear picture of any transactions that took place during the period so we can confirm whether the company qualifies as dormant. We may also ask about the company's registered details and the confirmation statement position, plus the authentication needed to file at Companies House. If anything is missing or unclear, we will tell you what else is required before the dormant company accounts filing is prepared.
Yes. Preparing and submitting dormant company accounts is something we handle regularly for companies that are inactive or have very little activity. We review the company's position for the period, prepare the accounts in the appropriate format, and submit them to Companies House on the company's behalf. The directors remain responsible for the accuracy of the information provided and for ensuring the company meets its wider filing obligations, so we keep you informed at each stage rather than leaving you guessing about what has been filed and when.
