I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts a company prepares for a financial period in which it has been dormant for Companies House purposes, meaning it has had no significant accounting transactions in that period. They are not a blank placeholder: they still need to be prepared in line with the applicable Companies House rules for the company's circumstances and filed at the right time. The content and format can differ from the full accounts a trading company produces, which is why it is worth confirming the correct basis before you file.
Broadly, a company is treated as dormant for Companies House purposes when it has had no significant accounting transactions during the period in question. Certain transactions may be disregarded under the rules, but the test is specific and it is not the same as simply having stopped trading or having a quiet year. Because the position depends on what actually happened in the period, it is sensible to review the company's records before deciding that dormant accounts are the right route rather than assuming it from the fact that no invoices were raised.
Yes, in most cases. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes generally still has to file annual accounts, and being dormant does not remove that obligation. The only situations where this changes are where the company has been formally dissolved or another specific rule applies to it. Filing obligations continue for as long as the company remains registered at Companies House, so dormant company accounts filing should be treated as a recurring annual task rather than a one-off.
A confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing from the annual accounts, and a dormant company will usually still need to file one. It confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company, such as its registered office, directors and shareholders, is still correct. It is not the same document as dormant company accounts and it is not submitted at the same time or for the same purpose, so both should be planned for separately in the company's annual cycle.
No, these are separate concepts with separate rules. A company may be dormant for Companies House purposes but not dormant for Corporation Tax, and the reverse can also happen. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not automatically notify HMRC that the company is dormant, and it does not automatically bring any Corporation Tax obligations to an end. If you are unsure how HMRC views the company, that needs to be looked at as its own question, separately from the Companies House accounts position.
It depends on the company's circumstances and on how HMRC treats it for Corporation Tax purposes. A Corporation Tax Return (CT600) is an HMRC obligation and is entirely separate from dormant company accounts filing at Companies House. Some companies that are dormant for Companies House purposes may still have HMRC requirements, while others may not. Because the two regimes operate independently, any question about a CT600 should be considered on its own facts rather than inferred from the company's Companies House dormancy status.
Typically we need the company's basic details, the financial period being reported on, and enough information about the company's activity, or lack of it, to confirm whether it qualifies as dormant for Companies House purposes. This usually means looking through the period for any transactions that would affect that assessment, including bank activity. The exact information required can vary from company to company, so the most reliable starting point is a short conversation about the company's circumstances before the accounts are prepared.
Filing after the due date can lead to consequences from Companies House, and late filing penalties may apply depending on the circumstances. We cannot guarantee a particular outcome once a deadline has passed, so the practical approach is to deal with the position as early as possible rather than waiting. If you are already late, or you are unsure of your filing date, it is worth getting the position reviewed quickly so you know where the company stands and what the next step should be.
Yes. Many directors choose to have dormant company accounts prepared and filed on their behalf, particularly where they are unsure whether the company still counts as dormant or which filing route applies. It also helps where the director's attention is elsewhere and the annual filing is easy to overlook. We can prepare the accounts, handle the Companies House submission where appropriate, and keep an eye on the separate confirmation statement so the company's annual obligations stay organised.
