I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts filed at Companies House by a company that has been dormant for Companies House purposes during the period they cover. In practice, they look very different from the accounts of a trading business: rather than reporting turnover, expenses, profit and the wider financial picture, they record the company's dormant position for the period. That does not make them optional or informal. They still need to be prepared in line with the applicable rules and filed for the correct accounting period, and the format and filing route that apply depend on your company's circumstances.
Broadly speaking, a company is dormant for Companies House purposes when it has had no significant accounting transactions during the accounting period in question. There are rules around what counts as significant, and some transactions will not affect dormant status while others clearly will. Because it comes down to the facts of your period, it is unwise to treat a company as dormant simply because no invoices were issued or no money came in. A dormant company can also hold certain assets, such as a bank balance, without that automatically changing its position, but there are limits and exceptions. If you are unsure about a particular transaction, it is worth checking before any accounts are prepared.
Generally, yes. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes will usually still need to file annual accounts and a confirmation statement each year, unless it has been formally dissolved or another specific rule applies. These are two separate filings with separate purposes. The accounts report the company's position for the financial period, while the confirmation statement confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company — such as its registered office, directors and share capital — is correct. Neither one replaces the other, and dormant status is not an exemption from all company filing requirements.
Yes, and the difference matters when deciding what to file. Accounts for an actively trading company typically include a profit and loss account, a balance sheet and supporting notes that set out the company's income, costs, assets and liabilities. Dormant accounts are usually much shorter and reflect the fact that no significant accounting transactions took place during the period. However, this is not a free choice. If a company has had transactions in the period that affect its dormant position, it may not be able to file dormant accounts at all and may need to prepare accounts on a normal basis instead. The correct treatment depends on your company's circumstances and the applicable rules.
No — these are two separate concepts, administered by two different bodies. Dormancy for Companies House purposes relates to whether the company has had significant accounting transactions and what it therefore needs to file as annual accounts. Dormancy for Corporation Tax purposes is an HMRC matter, and a company can be dormant for one purpose while not being dormant for the other. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not automatically notify HMRC of anything and does not by itself change your Corporation Tax position. If you want your company treated as dormant for Corporation Tax, that normally needs to be addressed separately with HMRC.
Not always, but it is not automatic either. Whether a Corporation Tax Return is required depends on your company's circumstances and, in particular, on whether HMRC has issued a notice requiring one. Where such a notice has been issued, a return is normally required even if the company has not traded, although there are situations in which a company can tell HMRC that it is dormant. Because the answer turns on your company's own position, it is worth confirming rather than assuming no return is needed. Corporation Tax Returns are an HMRC obligation and sit entirely outside Dormant Company Accounts Filing at Companies House.
We normally need the company's registered name and company number, its registered office address, its accounting reference date, the exact period the accounts cover, and confirmation of whether any transactions took place during that period. If any transactions did occur — even ones you think are minor, such as bank charges, interest or a payment between the company and a director — it is best to tell us anyway, because we can then check whether they affect the company's dormant position or the accounts that need to be prepared. Directors' details and any changes to the company's registered information are also useful, particularly where a confirmation statement is due at the same time.
While a company remains registered at Companies House, it generally still has filing obligations, even if closure is under way. That means outstanding accounts and confirmation statements for the relevant periods may still be needed while a strike-off application or other closure route is being progressed, and being in the process of closing does not automatically pause or remove those requirements. Where a company has already been formally dissolved, the position is different and any missed filings may need to be looked at separately with appropriate advice.
