I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts filed with Companies House by a company that is dormant for Companies House purposes. Rather than a full profit and loss account and detailed notes, they are usually a simpler set of accounts prepared under the specific rules that apply to dormant companies, confirming that there were no significant accounting transactions in the period. The exact content and format depend on the company's circumstances and the applicable Companies House rules, which is why it is worth confirming your position before preparing them.
Broadly, a company is dormant for Companies House purposes when it has had no significant accounting transactions during the relevant financial period. Some transactions — for example, paying a filing fee or receiving a small amount of bank interest — do not normally take a company out of dormancy, but the detail matters and the rules can vary with the circumstances. It is not simply a case of not having traded, and it is not a status a director can assume without checking, so reviewing the activity in the period is the sensible starting point.
In most cases, yes. A company that remains registered generally continues to have Companies House filing obligations, even if it is dormant. That normally means preparing and filing annual accounts and delivering a confirmation statement, unless the company has been formally dissolved or another specific rule applies. Dormant status therefore reduces the volume of work involved in the accounts, but it does not remove the filing itself, so the annual cycle still needs to be diarised and managed.
No — they are two separate Companies House filings. A confirmation statement confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company is correct, covering things such as the registered office, directors, shareholders and share capital. Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts themselves. They are usually due at different points in the year, so treating them as one single obligation is a common cause of missed filings for inactive companies.
They are separate concepts, and a company may be dormant for one purpose but not automatically for the other. Companies House dormancy relates to the accounting transactions in the period and to the annual accounts filing. HMRC dormancy relates to Corporation Tax and is dealt with through HMRC's own processes. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not notify HMRC of dormancy, and it does not mean a company automatically stops having Corporation Tax obligations — that side of things has to be considered separately.
A Corporation Tax Return (CT600) is an HMRC obligation, not a Companies House one, and whether one is required depends on the company's own circumstances and its position with HMRC. Having dormant accounts filed at Companies House does not answer that question on its own, and it does not tell HMRC anything automatically. If you are unsure whether a return is due for your company, it is worth checking your HMRC position directly, because the two authorities operate separate filing regimes.
In the simplest cases, we need the company's basic details, the financial period being reported on, and confirmation that there were no significant accounting transactions in that period. If there were minor transactions, such as bank charges or a small amount of interest, we will need to understand them, because they can affect how the accounts are prepared. It also helps to have your Companies House authentication details and your latest confirmation statement to hand, so the accounts and the company record can be kept consistent.
Late filing of accounts at Companies House can lead to consequences for the company and its directors, and the exact outcome depends on the individual case, how late the filing is, and the rules in force at the time. We cannot remove or prevent those consequences, so the practical answer is to avoid the situation by tracking your accounting reference date and preparing early. Where a filing has already slipped, the priority is to get the correct accounts prepared and submitted as soon as possible rather than leaving the position unresolved.
Yes. Preparing and filing dormant company accounts is something we handle on behalf of directors, along with related Companies House work such as confirmation statement support. The benefit is that someone is checking whether your company still qualifies as dormant for Companies House purposes, preparing the accounts in the right form for your circumstances, and keeping an eye on the annual filing cycle. It does not remove your responsibilities as a director, but it does mean the work is organised and dealt with rather than forgotten.
