I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts a company files with Companies House when it has been dormant for Companies House purposes during the accounting period. They are prepared in a simplified format reflecting the fact that the company had no significant accounting transactions, and they still need to be prepared and filed where the company is required to file accounts. They are not the same document as a confirmation statement, and they are not a Corporation Tax Return — those are separate filings with different purposes.
Broadly, a company is treated as dormant for Companies House purposes when it has no significant accounting transactions during the accounting period. Ordinary transactions that a company must carry out to keep itself registered — such as paying its own Companies House filing fees or a small amount of share capital being held — are generally treated differently from trading activity. Because the detail matters and depends on your company's circumstances, it is worth checking your position rather than assuming dormancy applies.
In most cases, yes. Being dormant for Companies House purposes does not remove the requirement to file annual accounts unless the company has been formally dissolved or another specific rule applies to it. Dormant company accounts filing is still an annual obligation for many dormant companies, and it is separate from the confirmation statement, which is also usually due each year. If you are unsure whether your company falls into an exception, the position should be reviewed based on your own circumstances.
A confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing from dormant company accounts. Where a company is due to file one, it confirms that the information Companies House holds — such as directors, registered office and share capital — is up to date. A confirmation statement is not a set of accounts and does not report profit or loss. Dormant companies can still be required to file confirmation statements, so treat it as a distinct annual task alongside your dormant company accounts filing.
Yes. A dormant company may have different accounting requirements from an active trading company, and the accounts are typically prepared in a simplified, shorter format that reflects a period without significant accounting transactions. That said, you should not assume every dormant company can use the same form or filing route — the appropriate approach depends on the company's circumstances and the applicable Companies House rules at the time. We confirm the right route for your company before anything is prepared.
No, these are separate concepts and are handled by different bodies. A company can be dormant for Companies House purposes but not automatically dormant for Corporation Tax with HMRC, and vice versa. It is quite possible to be dormant for one purpose while still having obligations for the other. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not automatically notify HMRC of dormancy, so if your Corporation Tax position needs to change, that is usually dealt with separately.
Corporation Tax Returns are separate HMRC obligations, and whether one is required depends on your company's circumstances and what HMRC has asked for. A company that is dormant at Companies House is not automatically released from Corporation Tax obligations, and dormancy for Companies House purposes does not itself change your HMRC position. Even where no Corporation Tax Return is due, HMRC may still need to be informed directly. If you are unsure what applies to your company, this should be looked at on its own merits.
We normally need basic company details, the accounting period being covered, confirmation of the company's dormant position for that period, and details of any transactions that did occur so we can assess whether they affect the accounts. We also check your existing Companies House record so the accounts are consistent with the information already held. Because requirements vary between companies, we will tell you exactly what is needed once we know your circumstances.
Yes, we can help with dormant company accounts filing while a company is in the process of being closed, because filing obligations can continue right up until the company is formally dissolved. Dormant accounts and any confirmation statement may still be due in the meantime, and missing them can cause complications. We will look at your company's position and the stage it has reached, then prepare and file what is required on the basis of your circumstances rather than a one-size-fits-all assumption.
