I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts a company prepares and files at Companies House when it has been dormant for Companies House purposes during the accounting period. In broad terms, that means the company has had no significant accounting transactions in the period, although what counts as significant is defined by the applicable rules rather than by how quiet the company feels. The accounts are still formal statutory accounts — they simply reflect a dormant position rather than trading activity. They are not the same thing as a Confirmation Statement, a Corporation Tax Return (CT600) or a VAT Return.
A company is generally treated as dormant for Companies House purposes when it has had no significant accounting transactions during the accounting period. Certain transactions are commonly disregarded for this purpose under the applicable rules, but the detail matters, and a company should check its own activity against the current requirements rather than assuming it qualifies. It is also important not to confuse this with HMRC's separate concept of dormancy for Corporation Tax. A company can be dormant for one purpose and not the other, so the two positions should be considered independently.
In most cases, yes. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes will usually still need to file annual accounts and a confirmation statement, unless it has been formally dissolved or a specific rule applies to its circumstances. Dormant status is not an exemption from all company filing requirements. The accounts prepared, and the filing requirements that apply, depend on the company's situation and the Companies House rules in force, so it is worth reviewing your position each year rather than assuming nothing needs to be sent.
A confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing from dormant company accounts, and a dormant company will generally still need to file one. The confirmation statement confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company — such as the registered office, directors, shareholders and share capital — is correct as at the confirmation date. It is not a set of accounts, and filing it does not take the place of Dormant Company Accounts Filing. Both obligations can apply in the same year.
Yes. A company with trading activity prepares accounts that reflect its income, expenses, assets and liabilities, usually with a profit and loss account and a balance sheet. A dormant company may have different accounting requirements, often resulting in much shorter accounts that reflect the absence of significant accounting transactions. The exact format and the filing route available can vary from company to company, which is why it is not safe to assume that every dormant company uses the same form or filing method. What is suitable for one dormant company may not be suitable for another.
No. These are two separate concepts, dealt with by two different bodies. Companies House looks at whether a company has had significant accounting transactions for the purposes of its annual accounts, while HMRC has its own criteria for Corporation Tax dormancy. A company may be dormant for one purpose without automatically being dormant for the other. Filing dormant accounts at Companies House does not automatically notify HMRC of dormancy, and it does not by itself close down any Corporation Tax obligations the company may have.
That depends on the company's position with HMRC. A Corporation Tax Return (CT600) is a separate HMRC obligation from Dormant Company Accounts Filing, and Companies House dormancy does not automatically remove it. Whether a return is required, or whether HMRC needs to be told that the company is dormant for Corporation Tax purposes, depends on the company's circumstances and HMRC's own rules. It is worth checking your HMRC position alongside your Companies House filings so that the two are not treated as the same thing.
Typically you will need the company's basic details, including the company name and registration number, the accounting period being reported on, the registered office address, and details of the directors and shareholders. It also helps to have the previous year's accounts, the date of the last confirmation statement, and a clear picture of any transactions that took place during the period, however minor they may seem, so that the dormant position can be assessed properly. If anything is unclear, the company's records and bank statements are usually the best starting point.
It can, and this is one of the most common reasons a company's dormant position needs careful checking. Transactions such as bank charges, interest, or payments between the company and its directors may affect whether the company still qualifies as dormant for Companies House purposes, depending on the applicable rules and the nature of the transaction. Rather than assuming a small amount is irrelevant, it is sensible to look at the transactions in the period and confirm how they should be treated before the accounts are prepared and filed.
If a filing deadline has already passed, the best step is usually to establish where things stand and deal with the outstanding filing as soon as you reasonably can, rather than leaving it further. Companies House has its own processes in relation to late filings, and the consequences depend on the company's individual circumstances and the period involved. We can help you understand your position, prepare the accounts that are outstanding and support you in getting the Companies House records back in order. We cannot promise a particular outcome or the removal of any penalty.
Yes. An accountant can review your company's activity for the period, confirm whether a dormant position is appropriate, prepare the accounts in the required format and support you with the Companies House filing. That is exactly what Dormant Company Accounts Filing support involves. It is particularly useful for directors who are unsure whether accounts are still required, or who want reassurance that the figures and disclosures match the company's actual position. Separate matters such as a confirmation statement or a Corporation Tax Return can be handled alongside those filings where needed.
