I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts prepared for a company that is dormant for Companies House purposes, meaning there are no significant accounting transactions to record for the accounting period in question. They are usually much shorter and simpler than the accounts of a trading company, because there is no income, expenditure or trading activity to report in the normal way. Even so, they still need to reflect the company's position correctly and be prepared in line with the relevant Companies House requirements and the appropriate accounting framework for a small or dormant company. The exact content and format depend on your company's circumstances, which is why it is worth taking advice before preparing them.
A company is generally regarded as dormant for Companies House purposes when it has had no significant accounting transactions during the financial period — in other words, nothing that should be entered in its accounting records. A limited number of transactions are typically not counted as significant, such as a filing fee paid to Companies House itself. It is not enough simply to have stopped trading: if money has moved through the company, or interest has been received, the position may be different. Because the test turns on what happened in your specific accounting period, the safest approach is to review your records rather than assume your company qualifies for dormant treatment.
In most cases, yes. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes will generally still need to file annual accounts for each financial year, unless it has been formally dissolved or a specific rule applies to it. Being dormant does not switch off the requirement to file. What changes is the kind of accounts you prepare and how they are filed, not whether a filing is needed at all. It is also worth remembering that the filing requirement sits with the company and its directors, so keeping an eye on your accounting reference date and your filing obligations is part of running a dormant limited company responsibly.
A confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing from dormant company accounts, and a dormant company will generally still need to file one at least once every 12 months. It confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company — such as directors, shareholders and the registered office — is still accurate. Filing a confirmation statement does not replace your annual accounts, and filing dormant accounts does not replace the confirmation statement. The two run alongside each other, so directors of dormant companies usually need to manage both.
No. Dormancy for Companies House and dormancy for Corporation Tax with HMRC are separate concepts, and a company can be dormant for one purpose but not automatically for the other. Companies House looks at whether there were significant accounting transactions in the period. HMRC looks at whether the company is within the scope of Corporation Tax. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not notify HMRC that the company is dormant, and it does not automatically remove any Corporation Tax obligations the company may have. If you believe your company is dormant for tax purposes, that position normally needs to be confirmed with HMRC separately.
As a starting point, we would normally ask for your company name and registration number, the registered office address, the accounting reference date and the exact period the accounts cover, along with confirmation of the directors and any company secretary. We also need confirmation that there were no significant accounting transactions in the period, plus details of anything that did occur — for example a filing fee, bank interest or any other payment or receipt — so we can judge whether it affects the dormant position. Details of previous accounts and confirmation statements, and whether the company is also treated as dormant for tax purposes, are helpful too. If anything is unclear, we will tell you what else is needed rather than guessing.
It can, but this can affect whether the company qualifies as dormant for Companies House purposes for that period. Transactions such as bank charges, bank interest received or other movements through a company bank account may be significant accounting transactions that need to be recorded in the company's accounting records. Where that happens, the company may not meet the dormancy test for that accounting period, and different accounts may be required. The outcome depends on the nature and size of the transactions and on your company's circumstances, so it is best to review them with someone who can confirm the correct treatment before a filing is prepared.
Yes. An accountant can review your company's circumstances, confirm whether it appears to qualify as dormant for Companies House purposes for the period, prepare the appropriate accounts and submit them to Companies House on your behalf. They can also help with the separate confirmation statement and explain where Corporation Tax obligations sit with HMRC, which is a different question entirely. It is worth knowing that not every dormant company uses the same form or filing route — the route depends on the company's situation and the rules that apply — so having someone check the position first can save time and avoid submitting the wrong thing. You remain responsible for the accuracy of the information provided and for meeting your filing obligations.
