I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts prepared for a company that has been dormant for Companies House purposes during the accounting period those accounts cover. They generally reflect a position of little or no accounting activity rather than the trading activity you would see in the accounts of an active company, and they are prepared under the accounting and disclosure rules that apply to dormant companies. The exact content and the filing route depend on the company's circumstances and the current Companies House rules — dormant companies do not all file in exactly the same way, and there is no single form that suits every dormant company. Dormant company accounts are filed at Companies House as the company's annual accounts. They are not a Corporation Tax Return, a VAT Return or a confirmation statement.
For Companies House purposes, a company is generally treated as dormant when it has had no significant accounting transactions during the relevant financial period. Certain items are normally disregarded for that test, such as payments made to Companies House itself and some other specific transactions. It is a legal test rather than a matter of opinion, so it is not enough for a director to decide the company is dormant simply because it has not been trading. A period that includes bank charges, interest received or other genuine activity may point away from dormancy for Companies House purposes. Because the position depends on what actually happened, it is worth checking before assuming a dormant filing is appropriate.
In most cases, yes. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes will generally still need to file annual accounts and a confirmation statement, unless it has been formally dissolved or another specific rule applies to its circumstances. Dormancy is not a blanket exemption from filing, and it should not be read as meaning the company has no filing responsibilities at all. If annual accounts are not filed when they are due, Companies House may follow the matter up, so it is sensible to keep the filing position under review even when nothing has happened in the business.
Usually it does. A confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing from dormant company accounts and serves a different purpose: it confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company — such as the registered office, directors, shareholders and share capital — is correct as at the confirmation date. It is normally filed at least once every 12 months, even where the company is dormant and even if nothing has changed. A confirmation statement does not replace annual accounts, and dormant company accounts do not replace a confirmation statement. They are separate obligations with their own filing requirements.
No. They are separate concepts governed by separate rules. Dormancy for Companies House purposes turns largely on whether the company has had significant accounting transactions in the period, while dormancy for Corporation Tax purposes is a matter for HMRC and depends on its own criteria. A company can be dormant for one purpose but not automatically for the other — it may be dormant at Companies House and still have HMRC matters to deal with, or the position may be the other way round. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not notify HMRC of dormancy and does not by itself change a company's Corporation Tax position.
A Corporation Tax Return (CT600) is a separate HMRC obligation, and whether one is needed depends on the company's circumstances. HMRC may still expect a return, or may need to be told that the company is dormant for Corporation Tax purposes — that does not follow automatically from filing dormant company accounts with Companies House. If you are unsure about your company's Corporation Tax position, it is worth checking with HMRC directly or taking advice, because Companies House filing and HMRC filing run on different tracks with different rules and different deadlines.
As a starting point we usually need the company's registered details, the accounting period the accounts cover, the date of the last accounts filed, and a clear picture of what happened during the period. That means confirming whether there were any transactions at all and, if there were, what they were and when they took place, because items such as bank charges, interest and payments to Companies House can all affect whether the dormant route is available. Details of the company's officers and registered office are useful too, along with any correspondence received from Companies House. If the company is being closed or dissolved, that changes the position, so it helps to mention it early.
Yes. Preparing and filing dormant company accounts is something an accountant can handle on the company's behalf, and it is a service many directors use because the rules around dormancy and the appropriate filing approach are not always obvious. We can review the period, establish whether the company meets the dormancy conditions for Companies House purposes, prepare accounts that reflect the company's position, and arrange for the annual accounts filing to be submitted. We can also provide confirmation statement support so the annual obligations are not overlooked. The work involved depends on the company's circumstances, and legal responsibility for the accuracy of what is filed remains with the directors.
