I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts prepared for a company that qualifies as dormant for Companies House purposes. In practice they are usually a short set of accounts, typically built around a balance sheet and supporting notes, reflecting a period in which the company had no significant accounting transactions. They are filed at Companies House as the company's annual accounts for that financial period, and the exact content and format depend on the company's circumstances and the applicable Companies House rules rather than following one single template for every company.
Broadly, a company is treated as dormant for Companies House purposes when it has had no significant accounting transactions during the financial period in question. This is not simply a case of the director deciding the company is inactive — what matters is what actually happened in the period. Certain transactions are usually disregarded when assessing significant accounting transactions, while others, such as bank charges or payments made to Companies House, may need to be considered. Because the position depends on the individual transactions, it is worth checking your company's specific activity before assuming dormant accounts are the right route.
In most cases, yes. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes generally still has an obligation to file annual accounts for each financial period, unless it has been formally dissolved or another specific rule applies. Dormant status changes the type of accounts that are usually prepared and filed, not whether a filing is required at all. Assuming that dormancy means there is nothing to file is one of the most common and costly misunderstandings for directors of inactive companies.
Yes, in most cases a dormant company still needs to file a confirmation statement. This is a completely separate Companies House filing from the annual accounts: it confirms that the information held on the public register — such as the registered office, directors, people with significant control, share capital and standard industrial classification codes — is correct for the period. It must normally be filed at least once every 12 months, even if the company has not traded, so it should always be planned for alongside dormant company accounts.
They are usually much shorter. A trading company's accounts typically include a profit and loss account, a balance sheet, notes and often a directors' report, whereas dormant accounts generally focus on a balance sheet and the notes required by the applicable rules. The statutory provisions that apply to dormant companies can also differ from those applying to active ones. Importantly, not every dormant company can use the same form or filing route — for example, AA02 is not a universal dormant accounts form for every dormant company — so the correct approach depends on your company's circumstances.
No — these are two separate concepts, dealt with by two different bodies. A company can be dormant for Companies House purposes but not for HMRC Corporation Tax purposes, and the reverse can also apply. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not automatically notify HMRC that your company is dormant, and it does not automatically remove or resolve any Corporation Tax obligations. If you believe your company is dormant for Corporation Tax purposes, that position normally needs to be dealt with separately with HMRC.
It depends on your company's circumstances and on whether HMRC requires a return. Corporation Tax Returns are an HMRC obligation and are separate from Dormant Company Accounts Filing at Companies House. Even where a company is not trading, HMRC may still issue a notice requiring a return, and a company that has received such a notice generally needs to respond unless HMRC confirms otherwise. Where the position is unclear, it is worth checking directly with HMRC or taking advice, because Companies House dormancy and HMRC dormancy are not interchangeable.
Yes. As part of our Dormant Company Accounts Filing service we can prepare the appropriate dormant accounts for your company and submit them to Companies House where required, and we can also assist with confirmation statement support so your annual obligations are kept together rather than scattered. To get started we usually need details of the company, the financial period involved, confirmation of the company's activity (or lack of it) during that period, and access to the relevant Companies House and accounting records. If anything about your company's dormancy position is unclear, we will talk it through with you before anything is prepared.
