I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts filed with Companies House for an accounting period in which the company has been dormant for Companies House purposes. Rather than reporting trading activity, they reflect the company's dormant position for that period and are prepared in line with the applicable Companies House rules and the company's own circumstances. They are not a substitute for a confirmation statement, which is a separate Companies House filing, nor for any Corporation Tax Return or other HMRC obligation that may apply to the company. Because the right form and filing route can vary between companies, it is worth confirming your position before preparation begins.
Broadly, a company is treated as dormant for Companies House purposes when it has had no significant accounting transactions during the relevant accounting period. Significant accounting transactions generally means entries that would need to be recorded in the company's accounting records, such as sales, purchases or payments for goods and services, though certain items may be treated differently under the rules. A company that has simply stopped trading is not automatically dormant for Companies House, and the test is applied period by period. If a transaction arises, the company may no longer qualify as dormant for that period, so each set of accounts needs to be considered on its own facts.
In most cases, yes. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes generally still needs to file annual accounts for the relevant period unless it has been formally dissolved or another specific rule applies. Dormant status is not an exemption from every filing requirement, and being inactive does not mean the company can simply stop filing. The accounts themselves may look very different from those of an active trading company, and the requirements can vary depending on the company's circumstances and the applicable Companies House rules, which is why dormant company accounts filing should be reviewed rather than assumed.
A confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing from the annual accounts, and an inactive company can still be required to file one. It confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company — such as its registered office, directors, shareholders and share capital — is correct as at the confirmation date. Filing dormant accounts does not satisfy the confirmation statement requirement, and filing a confirmation statement does not satisfy the accounts requirement. Both can apply to the same dormant company, so it is worth keeping track of them as two distinct annual obligations.
Yes. The accounts of an active trading company report income, expenditure, assets and liabilities in the usual way, while dormant company accounts for a company that qualifies as dormant for Companies House purposes are far more limited in what they contain. The preparation requirements for a dormant company can therefore differ from those of a trading company, and the appropriate form or filing route is not necessarily the same for every dormant company. For that reason, dormant limited company accounts should be prepared with reference to your specific circumstances rather than copied from a general template.
No, they are separate concepts. A company may be dormant for Companies House purposes but not dormant for Corporation Tax purposes with HMRC, or the other way round. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not automatically notify HMRC that the company is dormant for tax, and it does not by itself change the company's Corporation Tax position. If you want to understand where your company stands for tax, that is a separate question that should be considered on its own merits.
Corporation Tax Returns are an HMRC obligation, not a Companies House one, and whether one is required depends on the company's circumstances rather than on its dormant status at Companies House. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House will not deal with this for you, and you should not assume that a company is automatically free of Corporation Tax obligations because it is dormant at Companies House. If you are unsure whether a return is due or whether HMRC needs to be informed of a change in the company's activity, it is worth taking advice on the tax position separately from the accounts.
As a starting point, we need the company's registered details, the accounting period in question, and confirmation of the company's position during that period, including whether any transactions took place that could affect whether it qualifies as dormant for Companies House purposes. Existing accounting records, details of the previous accounts filed, and information about any other filings due are also helpful. Once we understand the period and the company's circumstances, we can confirm the appropriate route for your dormant company accounts filing and let you know if anything further is needed before the accounts are prepared.
