I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts a company prepares when it is dormant for Companies House purposes — generally because it has had no significant accounting transactions in the relevant period. They are a simplified set of accounts compared with those of a trading company, but they are still statutory accounts filed at Companies House, not an informal note to say the company has been quiet. The exact content and format depend on your company's circumstances and the applicable Companies House rules, which is why it is worth checking your position before you file rather than assuming that one form fits every dormant company.
Broadly, a company is dormant for Companies House purposes when it has no significant accounting transactions in the accounting period — for example, no sales, purchases or other entries that need to be recorded in its books. Being dormant is not the same as simply not trading for a while, and it is not something a director can decide in isolation without checking the figures. If money is still moving through the company's records, it may not meet the dormancy test, and its accounts may need to be prepared on a different basis. We can review your company's activity with you and help you establish where it stands before anything is filed.
In most cases, yes. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes generally still has annual filing obligations, including filing annual accounts and a confirmation statement, unless it has been formally dissolved or another specific rule applies to its situation. Dormant status is not an exemption from company filing requirements, and letting the annual cycle pass unnoticed is one of the most common ways directors end up dealing with avoidable problems. We can manage both elements for you — the dormant company accounts filing and the separate confirmation statement.
They are different in scope rather than in status. Both are statutory accounts filed at Companies House, but a dormant company with no significant accounting transactions has far less to report than a trading company, so the accounts are typically much shorter and simpler. An active trading company will need to reflect turnover, costs, assets, liabilities and the supporting notes that go with them. A dormant company may have different accounting requirements and a different filing route, and not every dormant company uses the same form, so it is worth confirming which approach applies to yours.
No — these are two separate concepts, dealt with by two separate organisations. Dormancy for Companies House relates to your annual accounts and the company's filing obligations there. Dormancy for Corporation Tax is a matter for HMRC and depends on HMRC's own criteria. A company can be dormant for one purpose but not automatically for the other, and filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not by itself notify HMRC of anything or bring any Corporation Tax obligations to an end. If your Corporation Tax position needs to be confirmed or HMRC needs to be told something, that is a separate step.
It depends on your company's circumstances and on HMRC's view of your company's position. A Corporation Tax Return (CT600) is an HMRC obligation and is entirely separate from the accounts you file at Companies House, so filing dormant company accounts does not, on its own, deal with Corporation Tax. Some dormant companies are not required to submit a return for a given period, while others still are, and HMRC may issue a notice to file in any case. Rather than assume either way, it is worth checking your company's Corporation Tax status with HMRC or with an accountant who can review your specific position.
Potentially, yes, and this is exactly where dormancy is most often misunderstood. Bank charges, interest, or a small number of other entries can mean the company has transactions in its records, which may affect whether it qualifies as dormant for Companies House purposes and how its accounts need to be prepared. A modest amount of activity does not automatically mean the accounts have to be complicated, but it does mean the position should be checked rather than assumed. If your company has any transactions at all, tell us about them so we can establish the right approach from the outset.
Usually we need your company name and registration number, the accounting period we are preparing for, details of the company's activities (or confirmation that there were none), and information about any transactions that did pass through the company's records, such as bank charges or interest. Your previous year's accounts, your latest confirmation statement and your company authentication code are also helpful. Once we have the full picture, we can confirm which filing route applies and prepare the accounts accordingly. If you are unsure whether something counts as a transaction, it is far better to mention it than to leave it out.
