I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts prepared for a company that has been dormant for Companies House purposes during the relevant accounting period. Rather than showing trading income and expenses, they typically present a simple position, such as a balance sheet reflecting the company's limited activity, together with the notes and disclosures required in the circumstances. The exact content and the filing route depend on the company's situation and the applicable Companies House rules, so dormant companies do not all prepare their accounts in exactly the same way.
For Companies House purposes, a company is generally treated as dormant where it has no significant accounting transactions during the accounting period. A small number of permitted transactions, such as money paid for shares on incorporation or a Companies House filing fee, do not normally take a company out of dormancy on their own. The rules come with detail and grey areas, and a single transaction can change the picture, so it is sensible to review what has actually gone through the company's records before deciding that dormant accounts are the right approach.
In most cases, yes. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes will still generally have an annual accounts filing obligation unless it has been formally dissolved or a specific rule applies to its circumstances. Being dormant does not remove the requirement to file annual accounts, and simply not filing because there was no trading activity is not a safe assumption. The type of accounts a dormant company needs to prepare depends on its own position and the applicable Companies House rules.
Yes, in the usual case. A confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing from the annual accounts, and it confirms that the information held about the company, such as its registered office, directors and shareholders, is correct as at the confirmation date. It is not the same thing as dormant company accounts and it does not replace them. A dormant company will generally need to keep both its accounts filing and its confirmation statement up to date unless it has been formally dissolved or a specific rule applies.
No. These are two separate concepts administered by two different bodies. A company may be dormant for Companies House purposes but not for HMRC, or the other way round, depending on its activity and circumstances. Filing dormant company accounts with Companies House does not automatically notify HMRC of dormancy, and it does not by itself remove any Corporation Tax obligations the company may have. Where a company believes it is dormant for Corporation Tax purposes, that position should be considered and, where applicable, agreed with HMRC separately.
It can, and this is one of the most common reasons a company's dormant status is not as clear-cut as it first appears. Bank charges, interest, or a one-off payment can affect whether the company still meets the dormancy conditions, and the treatment depends on what the transaction was and the rules that apply. Because of this, it is best to review the company's bank statements and records for the whole accounting period rather than relying on memory before dormant accounts are prepared.
We normally need details of the company, the accounting period being covered, the previous year's accounts where available, and a clear picture of the activity, or lack of it, during the period, including bank statements and any transactions that did take place. Confirmation of the company's registered details and its position with HMRC is also helpful. You do not have to prepare the accounts yourself, an accountant can prepare and file dormant company accounts on the company's behalf using the information you provide.
If the filing deadline passes, Companies House may apply a late filing penalty, and the amount and outcome depend on the company's circumstances and the period of delay. Filing dormant accounts late does not remove the obligation to file them, and a late filing can affect the company's filing history and its standing at Companies House. The practical answer is to deal with the accounts as early as possible in the filing window, and if you are already late, to get the position reviewed quickly rather than waiting further.
