I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts filed at Companies House by a company that meets the dormancy criteria for the accounting period in question. Rather than reporting trading income, expenses and a profit or loss in the usual way, the accounts reflect a period in which the company had no significant accounting transactions, with the limited information and disclosures that the applicable rules require. They are a formal filing, not a blank submission, and they must still be prepared for the correct period and submitted to Companies House where the company has a filing obligation.
For Companies House purposes, a company is generally treated as dormant when it has had no significant accounting transactions during the accounting period. The key word is significant: a company can still carry out certain administrative or banking activities and remain dormant, while other transactions may fall outside the dormancy criteria. Because the test depends on the specific entries made in the company's records, it is worth checking your position each year rather than assuming the answer carries over from a previous period.
In most cases, yes. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes normally still has to file annual accounts, even where the year has been completely inactive. The requirement falls away only in particular situations, such as where the company has been formally dissolved or where a specific rule applies to that company. Dormant status changes what the accounts contain; it does not usually remove the obligation to file them.
Yes, in most cases. A confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing from dormant company accounts, and it is about confirming that the information held on the public register — such as the registered office, directors, shareholders and share capital — is still correct. Filing dormant company accounts does not satisfy the confirmation statement requirement, and filing a confirmation statement does not satisfy the accounts requirement. For a dormant company, the two typically run alongside each other each year.
No. These are two different concepts administered by two different bodies. A company can be dormant for Companies House purposes while still having Corporation Tax obligations, or be treated as dormant for Corporation Tax purposes while still needing to file accounts at Companies House. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not automatically notify HMRC of anything, and it does not by itself change your Corporation Tax position. If you want to understand where your company stands with HMRC, that should be looked at separately.
Not always, but it depends on the company's circumstances and on HMRC's view of its position. A Corporation Tax Return (CT600) is an HMRC obligation and is entirely separate from dormant company accounts filed at Companies House. Some dormant companies are not asked to file a return for a given period, while others still are. Because the answer depends on your company's specific situation and any correspondence from HMRC, it is worth confirming your position rather than assuming dormancy at Companies House settles it.
As a starting point, the company's basic details, the accounting period being reported, and a clear picture of any transactions that went through the company during that period — including bank activity, charges and any unusual entries. That transaction information matters because it determines whether the company genuinely meets the dormancy criteria for the year. If the company has straightforward records, such as bank statements and a simple list of anything paid or received, these are usually enough for a professional to assess the position and prepare the accounts. More complex or unclear activity may need closer review before the correct approach can be confirmed.
Yes, and this is a common arrangement for directors of inactive companies who would rather not navigate the requirements themselves. An accountant can review your company's activity for the period, establish whether the dormancy criteria are met, prepare the accounts on the basis that applies to your company, and file them with Companies House through the appropriate route. The right form and filing route depend on your circumstances — some dormant companies use a specific dormant accounts form such as AA02 where the conditions are met, but that is not a universal option for every dormant company, so the position should be checked rather than assumed. Support can also extend to keeping your confirmation statement and other annual Companies House filing requirements in order.
