CT600 Tax Return Filing in Tyrone – Company Tax Return Preparation and HMRC Submission

CT600 Tax Return Filing is the process of preparing and submitting a company’s Company Tax Return to HMRC so that its Corporation Tax position is reported accurately. For directors in Tyrone, it helps to work with someone who understands how the figures in your accounts feed into the Corporation Tax computation, where adjustments may be needed, and how the finished CT600 is filed. It is important to be clear that the CT600 is not the same thing as the statutory accounts you file with Companies House, and it is not a Confirmation Statement or a VAT Return. They are separate filing obligations with different purposes, even though they draw on the same underlying accounting records. Professional CT600 Tax Return Filing brings accuracy, clarity and convenience: your records are reviewed, your taxable profit is worked out properly, and your return is submitted to HMRC on your behalf, with clear explanations of what has been filed and why.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

What Is a Micro-Entity CT600 and How Does It Relate to Corporation Tax?

There is no separate official form called a ‘micro-entity CT600’. CT600 is simply the name of the Company Tax Return that companies use to report their Corporation Tax position to HMRC, and it is the same return whether a company is large, small or a micro-entity. What differs is the accounting framework a company uses and the level of detail in its statutory accounts. A company that qualifies as a micro-entity may prepare simpler accounts, often under FRS 105, but that accounting choice does not by itself determine the company’s Corporation Tax liability. If the company has a Corporation Tax obligation and HMRC requires a Company Tax Return, a CT600 still needs to be completed and submitted, and the company’s accounting records and accounts usually form the starting point for the calculation. From there, taxable profit may differ from accounting profit because the Corporation Tax computation can require adjustments — for example, disallowable expenditure may be added back, or capital allowances may be claimed in place of a depreciation charge. A micro-entity is not automatically liable to pay Corporation Tax; whether tax is due depends on the company’s own circumstances and taxable position. It is also worth remembering that filing the CT600 and paying any Corporation Tax are two separate obligations, with separate dates and processes.

A CT600 is the form HMRC uses for a company's Company Tax Return. It reports the company's Corporation Tax position for an accounting period, including the taxable profit figure and the Corporation Tax calculated on it. It is submitted to HMRC, not to Companies House, and it is a different document from a company's statutory accounts, its Confirmation Statement or any VAT Returns it may file.

A company generally needs to file a Company Tax Return if HMRC has issued a notice to deliver one, or if the company has a Corporation Tax liability or other chargeable amount to report. Some companies with no tax to pay may still be required to file a return, depending on their circumstances and any notice they have received. Because the requirement is not identical for every company, it is worth confirming your position based on your own accounting period, trading activity and correspondence from HMRC rather than assuming a blanket rule.

Yes, they are separate documents with separate purposes. Statutory accounts are prepared under an accounting framework and filed at Companies House, where they become part of the public record. The CT600 is a tax return submitted to HMRC to report the company's Corporation Tax position. The two are connected because the accounts usually provide the starting figures for the Corporation Tax computation, but preparing accounts and filing a Company Tax Return are related yet distinct processes.

No. The Corporation Tax computation is the working document that starts with accounting profit and makes the adjustments needed to arrive at taxable profit — for example adding back disallowable expenditure or replacing depreciation with capital allowances. The CT600 is the return in which those results are reported to HMRC. In practice the computation supports and explains the figures entered on the CT600, so both need to be prepared accurately and to be consistent with each other.

It may do. Being a micro-entity affects the accounting framework and the level of detail in your statutory accounts, but it does not remove or create Corporation Tax obligations on its own. If HMRC requires a Company Tax Return, or the company has Corporation Tax to report, a CT600 needs to be filed. Equally, a micro-entity is not automatically liable to pay Corporation Tax — whether any tax is due depends on the company's taxable position and its own circumstances.

You start with the profit shown in the accounts and then adjust it for tax purposes. Typical adjustments include adding back expenses that are not allowable for Corporation Tax, deducting items that are treated differently for tax, and claiming capital allowances instead of deducting depreciation. Income that is treated differently for tax may also need to be reflected. The result is taxable profit, which can be higher or lower than accounting profit depending on the adjustments required. This is why the tax figure on a CT600 does not simply mirror the profit in the accounts.

No — they are two separate obligations. Filing the CT600 is about reporting your Corporation Tax position to HMRC, while paying Corporation Tax is about settling the liability that arises from that position. A company might file its return and have no tax to pay, or it might have tax to pay with payment due on a different timetable from the filing. Keeping both dates in view, and keeping good records throughout the year, helps avoid unnecessary stress later on.

Yes. A company can appoint an agent to prepare and submit its Company Tax Return to HMRC, and many directors choose this route because it removes the need to work through the tax adjustments themselves. You will still need to provide accurate records and approve what is filed, and you remain responsible for the company's tax position. If you would like help with CT600 preparation, the Corporation Tax computation, reviewing tax adjustments or the HMRC submission itself, Micro Entity Accounts can support you from start to finish.
