CT600 Tax Return Filing in Turriff – Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

If your limited company has traded, earned income, or received certain payments, you will usually need to report your Corporation Tax position to HMRC – and for many companies that means preparing and submitting a Company Tax Return, known as a CT600. Our CT600 Tax Return Filing service in Turriff takes the pressure out of that process. We start with your accounting records, identify the figures that need to be reported, review the tax adjustments that turn accounting profit into taxable profit, and build the Corporation Tax computation that supports the return. From there, we complete the CT600 and file it with HMRC on your behalf, keeping you informed at each stage. It is worth being clear that the CT600 is not the same thing as your statutory accounts: accounts are prepared under an accounting framework and filed with Companies House, while the CT600 is a tax return submitted to HMRC. The two are connected, but they serve different purposes and follow different rules. Working with a professional preparer gives you accuracy, a clear picture of your company’s tax position, and the convenience of having the paperwork handled while you get on with running the business.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

What Is a CT600, and How Does It Relate to Micro-Entity Companies in Turriff?

There is no separate official ‘micro-entity CT600’ form. A CT600 is simply the name of the Company Tax Return that a UK company submits to HMRC to report its Corporation Tax position, and the same core return is used by companies of all sizes. ‘Micro-entity’ is a term that comes from company law and accounting frameworks – it describes a company that meets certain size criteria and can therefore prepare its statutory accounts under a simplified regime, often FRS 105. That accounting framework affects how the accounts are prepared and what is disclosed at Companies House, but it does not by itself determine whether Corporation Tax is payable or how much is due. A micro-entity company can still have Corporation Tax obligations. Where HMRC has issued a notice to file, or where the company has taxable profits or other reportable activity, a CT600 will normally need to be prepared and submitted. The company’s accounting records and statutory accounts are usually the starting point for the Corporation Tax calculation, but the figures rarely transfer across untouched. Taxable profit can differ from accounting profit because the Corporation Tax computation may require adjustments – for example, adding back disallowable expenditure or deducting items that are treated differently for tax. It is also important to keep two things separate: filing the CT600 and paying any Corporation Tax that is due are distinct obligations with their own timetables. Not every micro-entity will owe Corporation Tax, and a company’s circumstances determine whether a liability arises. Our role is to prepare the return accurately, show the workings behind the figures, and file the Company Tax Return with HMRC on your behalf.

A CT600 is the form used to submit a Company Tax Return to HMRC. It sets out a company's Corporation Tax position for an accounting period, including the figures used to calculate taxable profit and the resulting Corporation Tax liability, along with other information HMRC requires. It is a tax return, not a set of accounts, and it is submitted to HMRC rather than to Companies House. Most companies now file their CT600 online, often using HMRC-recognised software.

A company will normally need to file a Company Tax Return if HMRC has issued a notice to file, or if the company has taxable profits or other activity that must be reported for Corporation Tax purposes. This applies to limited companies generally, including small and micro-entity companies, and to other entities within the charge to Corporation Tax. Whether a particular company has to file in a given period depends on its own circumstances and any notice it has received from HMRC, so it is worth checking rather than assuming either way.

Yes – they are two separate filings with two separate recipients. Statutory accounts are prepared under an accounting framework and filed with Companies House as part of the company's public reporting obligations. A CT600 is a tax return submitted to HMRC. The accounting figures you report in your accounts are usually the starting point for the tax return, but the CT600 also needs a Corporation Tax computation that adjusts those figures for tax purposes. Because the two filings are separate, the existence of one does not automatically satisfy the other, and each has its own requirements and timetable.

It may well do. Being a micro-entity affects how your statutory accounts are prepared and what they disclose, but it does not exempt a company from Corporation Tax reporting. If HMRC has issued a notice to file, or if the company has taxable profits or reportable activity, a Company Tax Return will normally be required. Equally, not every micro-entity will owe Corporation Tax – that depends on the company's taxable position. Filing the CT600 and paying any Corporation Tax due are separate obligations, so it is possible to have a filing requirement even where no tax ends up being payable.

The Corporation Tax computation usually begins with the profit shown in the accounts and then adjusts it to arrive at taxable profit. Adjustments may include adding back expenditure that is not allowable for tax, deducting items treated differently for tax purposes, and applying capital allowances or other reliefs instead of the depreciation charged in the accounts. The precise adjustments depend on the company's transactions and circumstances, which is why a computation is prepared alongside the CT600 rather than the accounts being submitted on their own. Getting these adjustments right is central to an accurate return.

No. Filing the CT600 is about reporting – declaring the company's income, gains, deductions and reliefs so HMRC can see how the tax position has been calculated. Paying Corporation Tax is a separate obligation with its own timetable, and the amount payable is whatever the computation shows as due. A company can have a filing requirement without a payment to make, and the dates for filing and for payment do not necessarily fall on the same day. It is important to plan for both rather than treating the return as the end of the process.

Yes. We can act for your company in preparing the CT600, building the Corporation Tax computation, reviewing the tax adjustments and submitting the Company Tax Return to HMRC. To do that we will need your accounting records, details of income and expenditure, information about any capital purchases or disposals, and certain company and HMRC references. We will explain what is needed in straightforward terms, ask questions where the position is unclear, and keep you updated as the return progresses. You remain responsible for the accuracy of the information supplied and for any tax that is due.

Filing a Company Tax Return after the deadline can lead to penalties and interest, and the consequences generally become more significant the longer the return remains outstanding. HMRC can also issue determinations or estimates of tax where a return is not filed, which may be higher than the correct figure. Because the exact outcome depends on your company's circumstances and on HMRC's view, the safest approach is to file on time and to talk to us early if you are behind. We can help you pull the records together, prepare the return and get your filing back on track.
