CT600 Tax Return Filing in Torfaen: Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

Professional CT600 Tax Return Filing gives your company a clear, structured route from its accounting records to a Company Tax Return submitted to HMRC. We help you bring together the figures from your accounts, review the tax adjustments that may be needed to move from accounting profit to taxable profit, and prepare the CT600 ready for filing. It is worth being clear about what the CT600 is and is not: this is your company’s Corporation Tax Return to HMRC, and it is a separate filing from the statutory accounts you send to Companies House, from your Confirmation Statement and from any VAT Returns you submit. For companies across Torfaen, having the CT600 prepared and filed as part of an organised process means fewer last-minute scrambles, a clearer view of the Corporation Tax position, and the convenience of professional support when questions come up about the figures, the adjustments or the return itself.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

What Is a Micro-Entity CT600 and How Does It Relate to Corporation Tax?

There is no separate official micro-entity version of the CT600. It is the same Company Tax Return used by companies generally, and it is submitted to HMRC. What often differs for a smaller company is the accounting framework used to prepare its accounts rather than the tax return itself — a company that meets the micro-entity criteria may prepare accounts under a simplified framework, but that choice does not by itself determine its Corporation Tax liability. Where a micro-entity company has a Corporation Tax obligation for an accounting period, it may need to complete and submit a Company Tax Return setting out its Corporation Tax position. The figures in the accounts are typically the starting point, and the Corporation Tax calculation may then apply adjustments, such as adding back expenditure that is not allowable for tax or treating items differently for tax purposes, so the taxable profit can differ from the accounting profit reported in the accounts. Filing the CT600 and paying any Corporation Tax that is due are separate obligations, and a return may need to be submitted even where little or no tax is payable. Whether a particular micro-entity owes Corporation Tax depends on its own circumstances and taxable position.

Take the Pressure Out of CT600 Tax Return Filing

Corporation Tax reporting can quickly become complicated: the accounting profit in your accounts is only the starting point, and working through the adjustments that lead to taxable profit takes time and care — especially when records are spread across spreadsheets, invoices and bank statements. That is where Micro Entity Accounts can help. We support companies in Torfaen and beyond with CT600 preparation, Corporation Tax computations, a review of the tax adjustments affecting your figures, and submission of the Company Tax Return to HMRC, so you can see clearly what has been reported and why. If your accounting period has ended and the return is on your to-do list, get in touch and let us take the filing off your plate.

A CT600 is the form HMRC uses for a Company Tax Return. It reports a company's Corporation Tax position for an accounting period, covering the income, gains, deductions and reliefs that feed into the Corporation Tax calculation, and it is submitted to HMRC rather than to Companies House. In practice a CT600 is supported by a set of accounts and a Corporation Tax computation that show how the figures in the return were arrived at. Put simply, the CT600 is the return itself, while the computation is the working behind it.

Yes, they are separate filings with different purposes. Statutory accounts are prepared under the applicable accounting framework and filed with Companies House for the company's reporting year. The CT600 is your Company Tax Return, submitted to HMRC, which reports your Corporation Tax position for an accounting period. The same underlying figures often sit behind both documents, but the rules, the format and the audience are different, and filing one does not satisfy the requirement to file the other.

There is no separate micro-entity CT600 — a micro-entity company uses the same Company Tax Return form as any other company. Whether a particular company needs to submit one depends on its circumstances and whether it has a Corporation Tax obligation, or whether HMRC has issued a notice requiring a return for the period. Preparing accounts under a simplified framework can make the accounts themselves shorter, but it does not remove the need to consider the tax position and report it correctly. If you are unsure whether a return is expected for your accounting period, it is worth checking before assuming you are outside the system.

They work together, but they are not the same document. The CT600 is the formal return submitted to HMRC. The Corporation Tax computation is the set of workings that starts from the profit shown in your accounts, applies the tax adjustments needed to reach taxable profit, and shows how the Corporation Tax liability has been calculated. You cannot sensibly complete the return without the computation, because the boxes on the CT600 are populated from it, but the computation is not itself the return.

The starting point is normally the profit reported in the accounts, which is then adjusted for tax. Adjustments can include adding back expenditure that is not allowable for Corporation Tax, dealing with depreciation differently for tax purposes (capital allowances usually take its place), and accounting for income or gains that are taxed on a different basis. Depending on the company's circumstances, losses brought forward, reliefs or exemptions may also affect the outcome. Because of these adjustments, taxable profit can be higher or lower than the accounting profit in the accounts.

No. Filing the Company Tax Return and paying any Corporation Tax due are separate obligations with their own rules and dates. A company can be required to submit a CT600 even where no Corporation Tax turns out to be payable for the period, and the amount shown on the return is calculated from the taxable profit rather than from the cash in the bank. Getting the return filed does not, on its own, settle the payment side of things, so it is worth keeping both in view.

As a minimum, we usually need your company registration number and Unique Taxpayer Reference, the start and end dates of the accounting period, and the accounts or trial balance for that period. It also helps to have details of income and expenditure, records of asset purchases and disposals, information on any reliefs or losses being claimed or carried forward, and the previous year's return and computation for comparison. Having your records and bookkeeping reasonably up to date makes the process considerably smoother, particularly where adjustments to the accounting figures are needed.

Yes. A company can appoint an agent to prepare and submit its Company Tax Return to HMRC, which usually involves authorising that agent to act for Corporation Tax purposes. Even where an agent handles the filing, the company remains responsible for the accuracy of the information provided and for its wider Corporation Tax obligations. Working with an agent is largely about giving you confidence that the figures have been reviewed, the adjustments considered, and the return completed in a way that reflects your company's position.
