CT600 Tax Return Filing in Thirsk — Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

CT600 Tax Return Filing in Thirsk means preparing and submitting your company’s Corporation Tax Return to HMRC accurately and with a clear audit trail behind every figure. Professional support helps you pull together the accounting records, work through the tax adjustments that turn accounting profit into taxable profit, and present the resulting position in a CT600 that properly reflects your company’s circumstances. It is worth being clear from the outset that the CT600 is not the same thing as your statutory accounts: those are prepared under an accounting framework and filed separately with Companies House, whereas the CT600 goes to HMRC. Working with an accountant gives you a second pair of eyes on the numbers, a plain-English explanation of what has been claimed and why, and a straightforward route to submitting your Company Tax Return without wrestling the paperwork alone.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

What Is a CT600? Company Tax Returns and Micro-Entity Companies Explained

A micro-entity is simply a company that falls within the smallest size category under UK accounting rules, and it is worth stating plainly that there is no separate official “micro-entity CT600” form. The CT600 is the standard form HMRC uses for a Company Tax Return, and it applies to companies generally, whatever their size — what tends to differ for a smaller company is how the accounts are prepared and what is disclosed at Companies House, not the existence of a different tax return. A company that qualifies as a micro-entity can still have Corporation Tax obligations, and where it does, it will normally need to prepare and submit a Company Tax Return (CT600) to HMRC for its accounting period. Even where no tax ends up being payable, a filing obligation can still arise — often because HMRC has issued a notice to deliver a return — so it is worth checking rather than assuming the company sits outside the system. The starting point for the CT600 is usually the company’s accounts and accounting records, but the figures in those accounts are not automatically the figures used for tax. A Corporation Tax computation adjusts accounting profit to arrive at taxable profit: depreciation and certain non-business or entertaining costs may be added back, and reliefs such as capital allowances may be claimed where the rules allow. Taxable profit can therefore differ from the accounting profit shown in the accounts, which means Corporation Tax may be payable even when the accounts look modest, or no tax may be due even where a profit is reported, depending on the company’s particular circumstances. It is equally important to keep filing and payment separate: submitting a CT600 is a reporting obligation, while paying Corporation Tax is a distinct obligation with its own deadline, and meeting one does not automatically satisfy the other. Accounts preparation and Corporation Tax filing are related but separate processes, and a micro-entity accounting framework such as FRS 105 does not by itself determine the company’s Corporation Tax liability.

Preparing a Company Tax Return rarely feels straightforward when you are also running a business. There is accounting profit to reconcile, tax adjustments to identify, Corporation Tax records to keep organised and an HMRC filing to complete — and it is easy to lose several evenings to it. Micro Entity Accounts can take that off your desk, covering CT600 preparation, the Corporation Tax computation, a review of the adjustments that move you from accounting profit to taxable profit, and submission of the Company Tax Return to HMRC on your company’s behalf. If you would rather spend your time on the business than on the return, get in touch and we will talk through exactly what your company needs.

The CT600 is the form HMRC uses for a Company Tax Return. It is the document through which a UK company reports its Corporation Tax position for an accounting period — covering income, expenses, profits and any tax due — supported by the tax computations and, in most cases, a set of accounts. It is submitted to HMRC, not to Companies House, and it is the formal way of reporting a company's Corporation Tax position for the period. You may also see it described as a Corporation Tax Return or a Company Tax Return.

A company will generally need to file a Company Tax Return if HMRC has issued a notice to deliver one, or if it has a Corporation Tax liability or taxable activity in the period. Some companies with no tax to pay still have a filing obligation, and dormant or non-trading companies may face different requirements. Because the answer depends on the company's own circumstances and any notice received from HMRC, it is worth confirming your position rather than assuming you are outside the system.

Yes — they are two separate filings, made to two different organisations for two different purposes. Statutory accounts are prepared under an accounting framework and filed at Companies House, where they form part of the public record. The CT600 is filed with HMRC and reports the company's Corporation Tax position. The accounts figures often form the starting point for the Corporation Tax computation, but they are adjusted for tax purposes, and the two filings can have different deadlines and different obligations attached to them.

They work together, but they are not the same thing. The Corporation Tax computation is the working that starts with the accounting profit in the accounts and adjusts it — adding back disallowable items such as depreciation or certain entertaining costs, and claiming reliefs such as capital allowances where the rules allow — to arrive at the taxable profit and the tax payable. The CT600 is the return form that reports those figures to HMRC. In practice the computation is prepared first, then reflected in the CT600 submission.

There is no separate official micro-entity CT600 — the CT600 is the same Company Tax Return form used across companies. A company that qualifies as a micro-entity can still have Corporation Tax obligations and, where it does, will normally need to submit a CT600 to HMRC for its accounting period. The accounting framework used, such as FRS 105, affects how the accounts are prepared and filed at Companies House; it does not by itself determine the Corporation Tax liability or remove the need for a Company Tax Return.

The CT600 is supported by accounts prepared for tax purposes, which are usually the company's statutory accounts, so those figures generally need to exist before the return can be finalised. Importantly, filing the CT600 with HMRC does not discharge the separate obligation to file statutory accounts at Companies House — and filing accounts at Companies House does not satisfy HMRC's requirement. Both need to be dealt with, and because they can run to different deadlines it is sensible to plan them together.

No. Filing the return is a reporting obligation, while paying Corporation Tax is a separate obligation with its own deadline, which is not necessarily the same date. A company can submit a return showing tax due and settle the liability separately, or submit a return confirming no tax is payable while still having a filing obligation for that period. Keeping track of both dates, and of the records behind them, is part of good Corporation Tax housekeeping.

Yes — companies commonly ask an accountant to prepare and submit the Company Tax Return on their behalf. To do that, we would typically need your accounting records and final accounts for the period, the accounting period start and end dates, details of income and expenses, any asset additions or disposals, information on losses brought forward and reliefs claimed, along with your company registration details and any Corporation Tax already paid. From there we prepare the computation, review the adjustments and submit the CT600 to HMRC, keeping you informed of the position along the way.
