CT600 Tax Return Filing in Sunningdale: Preparing and Submitting Your Company Tax Return to HMRC

CT600 Tax Return Filing is the process of preparing your company’s Corporation Tax position and submitting a Company Tax Return to HMRC. For companies in Sunningdale and the surrounding area, professional support with CT600 Tax Return Filing means the figures behind your return are properly reviewed, your taxable profit is calculated with the right tax adjustments, and your Corporation Tax Return is filed online accurately and on time. It is important to be clear that a CT600 is not the same as statutory accounts. Statutory accounts are filed with Companies House under the Companies Act requirements, whereas the CT600 is submitted to HMRC and reports your company’s Corporation Tax position for the period. The two obligations are connected through the underlying accounting records, but they are separate filings with separate purposes. Working with an experienced team can take the uncertainty out of the process: you get help gathering the right information, translating your accounting profit into taxable profit, understanding what the return is reporting, and having the Corporation Tax Return submitted on your behalf. If you would rather spend your time running the business than wrestling with tax computations and online filing screens, professional CT600 Tax Return Filing offers a straightforward, well-organised route to getting it done.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

What Is a Micro-Entity CT600 and How Does It Relate to a Company Tax Return?

There is no separate official form called a ‘micro-entity CT600’. The CT600 is HMRC’s standard Company Tax Return form, and it is used by companies of all sizes — including those that qualify as micro-entities for accounting purposes. A micro-entity is an accounting classification. It describes a small company that meets certain size criteria and can therefore prepare its annual accounts under a simplified framework, such as FRS 105, which affects how those accounts are presented and what is filed with Companies House. That classification does not create a different tax return, and it does not in itself settle the company’s Corporation Tax position. Separately, a micro-entity company still has Corporation Tax obligations. Where HMRC has issued a notice to deliver a Company Tax Return, or where the company has taxable profits or other circumstances that require a return, the company must complete and submit a CT600 reporting its Corporation Tax position for the accounting period. The accounting records and accounts prepared under the micro-entity framework are usually the starting point for that return, but they are not the end of the story. The CT600 is a separate filing from the statutory accounts submitted to Companies House, and it is also separate from the Corporation Tax computation that supports it. A key point for small companies to understand is that accounting profit and taxable profit are not automatically the same figure. The Corporation Tax calculation may require adjustments — for example, adding back expenditure that is not allowable for tax, removing income that is not taxable, or replacing accounting depreciation with capital allowances — before the taxable profit and any resulting Corporation Tax liability are determined. Not every micro-entity will owe Corporation Tax. Whether any tax is payable depends on the company’s own circumstances, including its taxable profits, available reliefs and any losses carried forward. It is also worth distinguishing the filing of the CT600 from the payment of Corporation Tax: submitting the return and paying any tax due are separate obligations with their own timescales, so filing the return does not by itself settle the tax.

A CT600 is the form used to submit a Company Tax Return to HMRC. It sets out the company's Corporation Tax position for an accounting period, including details such as the company's income, allowable deductions, profits chargeable to Corporation Tax, reliefs and the tax payable. It is a tax filing made to HMRC, not a Companies House filing, and it is normally submitted online using HMRC's Corporation Tax service. A CT600 works alongside a Corporation Tax computation, which shows how the figures in the return were calculated.

A Company Tax Return — filed as a CT600 — is the document a company sends to HMRC to report its Corporation Tax position for an accounting period. Statutory accounts are a different document altogether: they are prepared under company law and filed with Companies House. The two are linked because the accounts usually provide the starting figures for the tax return, but they serve different purposes, go to different authorities and are subject to different rules. Filing statutory accounts with Companies House does not discharge the obligation to file a Company Tax Return with HMRC, and vice versa.

Broadly, a company may need to file a CT600 where it is within the charge to Corporation Tax, or where HMRC has issued a notice to deliver a Company Tax Return. There are also situations where a return is required even if no tax turns out to be payable — for example, because losses or reliefs reduce the taxable profit to nil. Because the requirement depends on the company's own circumstances and on whether HMRC has asked for a return, it is worth checking your position rather than assuming that a dormant or very small company has nothing to do.

Yes. The computation and the return are two related but distinct documents. The Corporation Tax computation is the working paper that starts with the company's accounting profit per the accounts and applies the relevant tax adjustments to arrive at the taxable profit and the resulting Corporation Tax liability. The CT600 is the return form that reports those figures to HMRC. In practice they are prepared together and submitted together, but the computation is the calculation and the CT600 is the filing.

It can. Micro-entity status is an accounting classification that allows a qualifying small company to prepare accounts under a simplified framework. It does not remove Corporation Tax obligations and it does not create a separate 'micro-entity' return. If HMRC has issued a notice to deliver a Company Tax Return, or the company has circumstances that require a return, the company still needs to complete a CT600. Whether any Corporation Tax is actually payable is a separate question that depends on the company's taxable profits, reliefs and losses.

The two obligations run alongside each other rather than being interchangeable. A Company Tax Return generally relies on accounts and a tax computation to support the figures reported, and HMRC expects the company to have prepared the underlying records properly. Separately, the statutory accounts must be filed with Companies House by the relevant deadline for that filing. Completing a CT600 does not satisfy the Companies House requirement, and filing accounts at Companies House does not satisfy the HMRC requirement. Companies often handle both together so that the figures are consistent.

The starting point is usually the accounting profit shown in the company's accounts. Adjustments are then applied to reach the taxable profit. These commonly include adding back expenditure that is not allowable for tax purposes, deducting income that is not taxable, replacing accounting depreciation with capital allowances, and taking account of reliefs or losses brought forward where the rules allow. Because the adjustments depend on the nature of the company's transactions, the taxable profit can be higher or lower than the accounting profit — and a company's choice of accounting framework, such as FRS 105, does not by itself determine its Corporation Tax liability.

No, these are separate obligations. Filing the CT600 reports the company's Corporation Tax position to HMRC. Paying Corporation Tax is a separate step, and the payment deadline can differ from the filing deadline, so submitting the return on time does not automatically mean the tax has been dealt with. A company should always check what is payable, if anything, and when the payment is due based on its own circumstances and HMRC's guidance.

Yes. Company directors can authorise an accountant or agent to act on the company's behalf, which typically includes preparing the Corporation Tax computation, completing the CT600 and submitting it to HMRC online. The company remains responsible for the accuracy of what is filed, which is why a good agent will work from your records, ask questions about unusual items and explain the basis of the figures before submission. In Sunningdale and across the surrounding area, this is one of the most common ways companies manage their CT600 Tax Return Filing.
