CT600 Tax Return Filing in Stroud: Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

CT600 Tax Return Filing covers the preparation and submission of your company’s Company Tax Return to HMRC, reporting your Corporation Tax position for the accounting period. It is a distinct filing from the statutory accounts you send to Companies House, even though both draw on the same underlying accounting records. Professional support with CT600 Tax Return Filing in Stroud means your figures are reviewed, the Corporation Tax computation is prepared with the relevant tax adjustments, and the return is submitted accurately and on time through HMRC’s online systems. That gives directors clarity on what has been filed, confidence that the figures reconcile to the accounts, and the convenience of handing over the technical detail to someone who deals with it regularly. Clear, transparent pricing and a straightforward process make it easier to keep your Corporation Tax affairs in order.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

What Is a CT600 and How Does It Apply to Micro-Entity Companies?

There is no separate official form called a “micro-entity CT600” — the CT600 is the standard Company Tax Return that companies use to report their Corporation Tax position to HMRC, whatever their size. A micro-entity is simply a company that meets the relevant size criteria for the smallest companies regime under UK accounting standards, and that status affects how its statutory accounts are prepared and filed with Companies House. It does not automatically mean the company has no Corporation Tax obligations. Where a micro-entity company is required to file a Company Tax Return — for example because HMRC has issued a notice to deliver one, or because the company has taxable profits or other amounts chargeable to Corporation Tax — it does so using the CT600 in the usual way. The accounting records and statutory accounts provide the starting point for the Corporation Tax computation, but the taxable profit reported on the CT600 is not always the same as the accounting profit shown in the accounts. Adjustments may be needed, such as adding back disallowable expenditure or deducting items that are treated differently for tax, along with any available reliefs and allowances that apply to the company’s circumstances. It is also important to separate the filing obligation from the payment obligation: submitting a CT600 does not itself pay any Corporation Tax that is due, and whether any Corporation Tax is payable depends entirely on the company’s taxable position. Preparing the accounts and preparing the CT600 are closely related but separate exercises, and both benefit from being planned together.

A CT600 is the form HMRC uses for a Company Tax Return. It is where a company reports its Corporation Tax position for an accounting period, including the taxable profit or loss, any reliefs or allowances claimed, and the resulting Corporation Tax liability. The completed CT600, together with the supporting computations, is submitted to HMRC electronically. It is a tax filing, not a set of accounts, and it is prepared using figures drawn from the company's accounting records after the necessary tax adjustments have been made.

A company generally needs to file a Company Tax Return where HMRC has issued a notice to deliver one, or where it has taxable profits or other amounts chargeable to Corporation Tax. Some companies may not need to file in certain circumstances, and that depends on their specific position rather than on size alone. Because requirements vary, it is worth confirming your company's obligation rather than assuming that a dormant or loss-making year means nothing needs to be submitted. If you are unsure, check your position or ask an accountant to review it for you.

Yes, and the distinction matters. Statutory accounts are the company's formal financial statements, prepared under the applicable accounting framework and filed with Companies House. A CT600 is the Company Tax Return submitted to HMRC to report the Corporation Tax position. They are separate filings with separate recipients and separate purposes, although they share the same underlying accounting records. Filing your accounts does not file your Company Tax Return, and filing your CT600 does not satisfy your Companies House obligations. A Confirmation Statement and any VAT Returns you submit are separate again.

Possibly, depending on its circumstances. Micro-entity status relates to the size criteria under UK accounting standards and affects how the statutory accounts are prepared and filed — it does not create a different tax return and it does not automatically remove Corporation Tax obligations. If HMRC has issued a notice to deliver a Company Tax Return, or if the company has taxable profits or other amounts chargeable to Corporation Tax, a micro-entity will generally need to file a CT600 like any other company. Equally, a micro-entity is not automatically liable to pay Corporation Tax; that depends on its taxable position after adjustments and reliefs.

No. The Corporation Tax computation is the working schedule that starts with the accounting profit from the accounts and adjusts it to arrive at the taxable profit, taking into account items that are treated differently for tax purposes and any reliefs or allowances that apply. The CT600 is the return form itself, on which the figures from that computation are reported to HMRC. In practice the two are prepared together: the computation supports the entries made on the CT600, and HMRC may ask to see the supporting workings, so keeping them clear and well documented is important.

The starting point is usually the profit shown in the company's accounts for the accounting period. From there, adjustments are made to reach taxable profit. These typically include adding back expenditure that is not allowable for tax purposes, deducting income or gains that are treated differently, and applying capital allowances or other reliefs in place of the depreciation charged in the accounts. The exact adjustments depend on the transactions the company has entered into and its particular circumstances, which is why the computation is prepared case by case rather than from a single formula.

No — they are two separate obligations. Submitting a Company Tax Return reports the company's position to HMRC, while paying Corporation Tax is a payment obligation that arises only if a liability is due once taxable profit has been calculated. A company can file a CT600 showing no liability, and a company with a liability still needs to make payment arrangements separately from the filing itself. Handling the return and the payment as distinct tasks helps avoid the common mistake of assuming that filing has settled everything.

Yes. A company can appoint an agent to prepare and submit its Company Tax Return to HMRC on its behalf, with the appropriate authorisation in place. The director or directors remain responsible for the accuracy of the information provided and for the company's filing and payment obligations, so a good working relationship involves sharing complete records and reviewing the figures before submission. Using an agent is often helpful where the tax adjustments, reliefs or record-keeping requirements are unfamiliar, or where the directors simply prefer to focus on running the business.
