CT600 Tax Return Filing in Rainham: Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

CT600 Tax Return Filing is the process of preparing and submitting your company’s Company Tax Return to HMRC so that your Corporation Tax position is reported accurately and on time. Our service in Rainham supports directors and business owners through the whole process: reviewing your accounting records, preparing the Corporation Tax computation, identifying the tax adjustments that turn accounting profit into taxable profit, and filing the CT600 electronically with HMRC. It is important to remember that a CT600 is separate from the statutory accounts you file with Companies House, and separate again from your Confirmation Statement and any VAT Returns. We help you keep those obligations clearly distinguished, so the figures reported to each authority are consistent, well supported and easy to understand.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

What Is a Micro-Entity CT600 and How Does It Fit With Corporation Tax?

There is no separate official “micro-entity CT600” form. The CT600 is HMRC’s Company Tax Return, and it is used by companies of all sizes — including those that meet the micro-entity criteria for accounting purposes. If your company is a micro-entity, you may be able to prepare and file simpler statutory accounts with Companies House under a reduced disclosure framework, but that accounting choice does not remove your Corporation Tax obligations. Where HMRC requires a Company Tax Return, the company still needs to report its Corporation Tax position on a CT600. The accounts you prepare are often the starting point for that work, but they are not the end of it: accounting profit is calculated under accounting rules, while taxable profit is calculated under tax rules, so the Corporation Tax computation may require adjustments — for example, for disallowable expenditure, capital allowances or income treated differently for tax purposes. Filing the CT600 and paying any Corporation Tax due are also separate obligations: the return reports the position, while payment settles the liability. Whether your micro-entity company actually owes Corporation Tax depends on its own circumstances and taxable position.

A CT600 is the form HMRC uses for a Company Tax Return. It is where a company reports its Corporation Tax position for an accounting period, including the figures behind its taxable profit and the resulting Corporation Tax liability or repayment position, along with the supporting information HMRC requires. It is submitted to HMRC, not to Companies House, and it forms part of the company's Corporation Tax filing obligations.

Whether a company needs to file a Company Tax Return depends on its circumstances. In general, a company that is within the charge to Corporation Tax will need to notify HMRC and, where required, submit a CT600 for each accounting period. Some companies that are dormant or inactive may not need to file a return, but it is important to confirm the position rather than assume. Because the rules depend on the company's own activity and status, it is worth checking your specific situation — and most companies ask their accountant to prepare and file the CT600 on their behalf using the company's records and authority to act.

Yes, they are two separate filings with two separate purposes. Statutory accounts are prepared for the company's members and filed at Companies House under company law, showing the financial position and performance for the period. A CT600 is a tax filing submitted to HMRC, reporting the Corporation Tax position. The accounts often provide the starting point for the tax figures, but the CT600 itself is not the same document and it is not filed with the same authority. Many companies also have other separate obligations, such as a Confirmation Statement or VAT Returns, which are unconnected to the CT600.

Being a micro-entity affects how you may prepare and file your statutory accounts; it does not create a special tax return and it does not automatically remove Corporation Tax obligations. If HMRC requires your company to submit a Company Tax Return for an accounting period, you will need to file a CT600 for that period, whatever your size. Similarly, the accounting framework used for the accounts — such as FRS 105 — does not by itself determine the Corporation Tax liability. Whether Corporation Tax is actually payable depends on the company's taxable profit and its individual circumstances.

They are closely connected but not the same thing. The Corporation Tax computation is the working document that takes your accounting profit, applies the relevant tax adjustments, and arrives at the taxable profit and the Corporation Tax figure. The CT600 is the form on which those results are reported and submitted to HMRC. In practice they are prepared together, which is why an accurate computation matters: if the underlying figures are wrong or unsupported, the return built on them will be too.

Taxable profit starts with the profit shown in your accounts and is then adjusted for tax purposes. Typical adjustments include adding back expenditure that is not allowable for tax, deducting items that are treated differently for tax, and accounting for capital allowances rather than accounting depreciation on qualifying assets. Income that is treated differently under tax rules may also need to be reflected. The result is the taxable profit used to work out Corporation Tax. Because these adjustments depend on the company's specific transactions and records, the computation should be prepared carefully and supported by the underlying paperwork.

No. Filing the CT600 is the reporting step — it tells HMRC what the company's Corporation Tax position is for the period. Paying Corporation Tax is a separate obligation, and the date by which payment is due can differ from the date the return is submitted. A company can therefore have filed its return while still owing Corporation Tax, or it may file to confirm a nil or repayment position. It is worth keeping both dates in view so that neither is missed.

If a Company Tax Return is filed after the date HMRC expects it, the company may face penalties and, where tax is outstanding, interest on late payment. The exact consequences depend on how late the return is, whether any tax was paid on time, and the company's history, so the position is best confirmed against current HMRC guidance for your circumstances. The practical priority is to get the return completed and submitted as soon as possible, with accurate figures, and to bring any outstanding records up to date.
