CT600 Tax Return Filing in Radlett: Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

CT600 Tax Return Filing in Radlett is about getting your company’s Corporation Tax position right and reporting it accurately to HMRC. A CT600 is the Company Tax Return a UK company submits to HMRC to report its Corporation Tax position for an accounting period — it is not the same document as the statutory accounts filed with Companies House, and filing one does not satisfy the other. Professional support helps you bring together the figures from your accounting records, work through the tax adjustments that turn accounting profit into taxable profit, and submit the completed CT600 on your company’s behalf. Whether yours is a small or micro company with straightforward trading income or a business with more involved Corporation Tax reporting needs, the aim is to make the process clear and convenient, so you know what has been filed, what it was based on, and what needs your attention next.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

What Does a CT600 Mean for a Micro-Entity Company?

Micro-entity status is an accounting framework question. It affects how a company’s statutory accounts are prepared and filed, but it does not create a separate official tax return — there is no distinct “micro-entity CT600” form. Where a company is required to file a Company Tax Return, it does so on the standard CT600, and that applies to micro-entity companies just as it does to others. In practice, the accounting records and the statutory accounts are a natural starting point for the Corporation Tax computation that supports the CT600, because the accounts show the company’s accounting profit. Taxable profit, however, is calculated under tax rules rather than accounting rules, so adjustments — such as adding back disallowable expenditure or accounting for capital allowances and other reliefs — may be needed before the taxable profit and any Corporation Tax liability are confirmed. Not every micro-entity will owe Corporation Tax; whether any is payable depends on the company’s own circumstances and its taxable position. It is also worth separating the CT600 filing from the payment of Corporation Tax, since these are two distinct obligations with their own requirements.

A CT600 is the Company Tax Return that a company submits to HMRC, now filed online. It sets out the company's Corporation Tax position for an accounting period, including its taxable profit or loss, the Corporation Tax calculation and details of any reliefs or allowances being claimed. It is a tax filing that relates to the company itself rather than to its directors or shareholders personally, and it is separate from the statutory accounts a company prepares for its members.

Yes, and the two are often confused. Statutory accounts are prepared under company law and filed at Companies House for the company's members and other users. A CT600 is a tax return submitted to HMRC. The figures in the accounts usually feed into the Corporation Tax computation that supports the CT600, but the accounts are not the CT600, and filing one does not discharge the other obligation. Many companies have both requirements running alongside each other, each with its own format and its own timetable.

Broadly, a UK company within the scope of Corporation Tax will need to file a Company Tax Return where it has a Corporation Tax liability or where HMRC has issued a notice to deliver a return for the relevant accounting period. Some companies with no taxable profit may still have a filing requirement, while others may not need to file at all. Because it turns on the company's own circumstances, it is worth confirming your position rather than assuming that no tax due means nothing to file.

It may well do. Micro-entity status describes the accounting framework used to prepare a company's statutory accounts; it does not exempt a company from Corporation Tax or from filing a Company Tax Return where HMRC requires one. If a micro-entity company is within the Corporation Tax system it may need to file a CT600, and if it has taxable profits it may also have Corporation Tax to pay — although that depends entirely on its own figures and circumstances.

No. The Corporation Tax computation is the working calculation that starts with the company's accounting profit, applies the relevant tax adjustments to arrive at taxable profit, and works out the Corporation Tax due. The CT600 is the return that reports the outcome to HMRC. The two go hand in hand in practice: a properly prepared computation is what makes the figures entered on the CT600 reliable, and it is also what supports your position if HMRC asks questions later.

The usual starting point is the profit shown in the company's accounts. That figure is then adjusted for tax purposes — for example by adding back expenses that are not allowable for Corporation Tax, deducting items treated differently under tax rules, and taking account of capital allowances and any reliefs the company can claim. The result is the taxable profit on which Corporation Tax is calculated. Because these adjustments vary considerably from one company to another, each computation has to be considered on its own facts rather than by applying a single formula.

No — filing and payment are separate steps. Submitting the CT600 tells HMRC what the company's Corporation Tax position is, including how much tax is due or that no tax is due. Payment is a separate transaction with its own deadline, and you should not assume that filing the return settles the liability. Keeping both in view helps you avoid the situation where a return has been filed but the tax itself has not been dealt with.

Yes. A company can appoint an agent to prepare its Company Tax Return and submit it to HMRC on its behalf. You remain responsible for the accuracy of the information the return is based on, which is why the process normally begins with a review of your records, your accounts and any relevant tax matters before the CT600 is finalised and filed. That review stage is also where tax adjustments and reliefs are considered, so nothing material is missed.
