CT600 Tax Return Filing in Purleigh – Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

CT600 Tax Return Filing is the process of preparing your company’s Company Tax Return and submitting it to HMRC so that your Corporation Tax position is reported accurately. If your company is based in Purleigh or the surrounding Essex area, professional support can take the guesswork out of the process: we review your accounting records, work through the tax adjustments that turn accounting profit into taxable profit, prepare the Corporation Tax computation and complete the CT600 itself. It is important to understand that the CT600 is a separate filing from your statutory accounts, which are prepared under an accounting framework and filed with Companies House. Keeping these two obligations distinct – and making sure the figures in each are consistent and well explained – is where good professional support really earns its keep. You get clarity on what has been filed and why, a smoother route through HMRC’s requirements, and more of your time back for running the business, all with clear, transparent pricing and no jargon.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

What Is a Micro-Entity CT600? How CT600 Tax Return Filing Works for Small Companies

There is no separate HMRC form called a ‘micro-entity CT600’. A CT600 is simply the Company Tax Return that a UK company uses to report its Corporation Tax position to HMRC, and the same form applies whether the company is large, small or a micro-entity. What differs is the accounting framework a company uses and the level of detail in its accounts – a micro-entity, for example, may prepare simpler accounts under a micro-entity accounting regime – but that choice of accounting framework does not by itself determine whether Corporation Tax is payable or how much. Where HMRC requires a Company Tax Return, a micro-entity company needs to complete and submit a CT600 showing its income, allowable deductions and the resulting Corporation Tax position. The figures in the CT600 are usually built from the company’s accounting records and statutory accounts, but they are not simply copied across: accounting profit and taxable profit are different concepts, and the Corporation Tax calculation may require adjustments, such as adding back disallowable expenditure or adjusting for items treated differently for tax purposes. Because of this, accounts preparation and CT600 Tax Return Filing are related but separate processes. It is also worth being clear that filing the CT600 and paying any Corporation Tax due are two distinct obligations – submitting the return does not itself settle the liability, and whether a company owes Corporation Tax at all depends on its own circumstances and taxable position.

Let Us Handle Your CT600 Tax Return Filing in Purleigh

Preparing a Company Tax Return is rarely as simple as moving numbers from your accounts onto a form. Working out taxable profit means reviewing your accounting figures, adjusting for items treated differently for tax, and then explaining the result clearly in a Corporation Tax computation before the CT600 is submitted to HMRC. If that sounds like a job you would rather not fit around running a business in Purleigh, Micro Entity Accounts can help. We support companies with CT600 preparation, Corporation Tax computation and tax adjustment review, and submission of the Company Tax Return to HMRC, while keeping your Corporation Tax records organised along the way. Our approach is practical and jargon-free, with clear, transparent pricing and a focus on accuracy and convenience. A CT600 is the form used to submit a Company Tax Return to HMRC. It reports a company's Corporation Tax position for an accounting period, showing income, allowable deductions and the resulting tax calculation, along with supporting information such as the company's details and the period covered. When people talk about CT600 Tax Return Filing, they mean preparing this return and submitting it to HMRC. The CT600 is an HMRC document and is separate from the statutory accounts a company files with Companies House.

A company normally needs to submit a Company Tax Return where HMRC has issued a notice to deliver one, and there are other circumstances in which a return may be required. Whether a specific company must file, and for which periods, depends on its own circumstances and on correspondence from HMRC rather than on any blanket rule. If you are unsure whether a return is due for your company, it is worth checking your HMRC correspondence or taking advice before assuming nothing needs to be filed.

Yes, they are two separate filings with two separate purposes and two separate recipients. Statutory accounts are prepared under an accounting framework and filed with Companies House; the CT600 is a tax return submitted to HMRC. The accounts and the tax return are related – the accounts often provide the starting point for the tax calculation – but they are not the same document, and preparing one does not automatically mean the other has been dealt with.

They are closely linked but not identical. The Corporation Tax computation is the workings that start from the company's accounting profit, apply the relevant tax adjustments, and arrive at taxable profit and the Corporation Tax figure. The CT600 is the return form on which those results are reported to HMRC. You generally need the computation in order to complete the CT600 accurately, which is why CT600 Tax Return Filing is usually handled alongside accounts preparation and tax adjustment work.

There is no separate 'micro-entity CT600' – the same Company Tax Return applies. Whether a micro-entity company needs to file one depends on its circumstances and on whether HMRC requires a return, and its accounting framework does not by itself decide the answer. Equally, being a micro-entity does not mean Corporation Tax is automatically payable; the company's taxable position determines that. What a micro-entity company does need to be sure of is that any required Company Tax Return is prepared accurately and submitted to HMRC on time.

Taxable profit starts with the profit shown in the accounts but is rarely identical to it. The Corporation Tax computation adds back expenditure that is not allowable for tax, deducts or adjusts for items treated differently under tax rules, and accounts for reliefs or allowances where they apply. The result is the taxable profit on which Corporation Tax is calculated. Because these adjustments depend on the specific transactions and circumstances of the company, the gap between accounting profit and taxable profit varies from company to company.

No. Filing the CT600 and paying any Corporation Tax that is due are separate obligations with separate processes and separate timing. Submitting a Company Tax Return tells HMRC what the company's position is; it does not settle the liability. Equally, a company may have a filing obligation even where no Corporation Tax is payable for the period. It is worth keeping the two in mind independently so that neither is overlooked.

Typically you will need the company's accounting records and accounts for the period, details of income and expenditure, information on items that may need tax adjustments, and the company's registration and period details. Supporting records for capital purchases, loans, expenses and any reliefs or allowances claimed are also useful. Accurate, well-organised records make the tax adjustments easier to identify and the return easier to prepare. If your records are incomplete, an accountant can usually help you work out what is missing before the return is finalised.

Yes. It is common for an accountant or tax agent to prepare the Company Tax Return and submit it to HMRC on the company's behalf, using the relevant HMRC authorisation. The company remains responsible for the information in the return, which is why a good agent will ask questions, review the figures with you and explain the tax adjustments rather than simply submitting numbers. This is often the most practical route for directors who want accuracy without wrestling with the form themselves.

Late filing can lead to consequences from HMRC, and the position depends on the circumstances and on how late the return is. Rather than relying on assumptions about what might happen, it is better to raise any risk of delay with your accountant as early as possible – often there is something that can be done about the position, and it is easier to manage before a reminder or notice arrives. Keeping on top of records and dates is the simplest way to avoid the issue altogether.
