CT600 Tax Return Filing in Port Talbot – Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

CT600 Tax Return Filing in Port Talbot is about making sure your company’s Corporation Tax position is calculated correctly and reported to HMRC on time. The CT600 is the Company Tax Return itself – a separate submission from the statutory accounts you file with Companies House, even where the two are prepared from the same underlying records. Professional support helps you pull together the accounting figures, review the tax adjustments needed to arrive at taxable profit, prepare the Corporation Tax computation and submit the return to HMRC with confidence. It also takes the guesswork out of a process that many directors only deal with once a year, giving you a clear record of what was filed, what it was based on, and what still needs your attention.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

What Does the CT600 Mean for a Micro-Entity Company?

There is no separate official “micro-entity CT600” form. A CT600 is simply the Company Tax Return that companies – including those that qualify as micro-entities – use to report their Corporation Tax position to HMRC. Qualifying as a micro-entity affects how your statutory accounts are prepared and filed with Companies House, but it does not remove the need to consider Corporation Tax. Where HMRC requires a return, or where the company has taxable profits or other reportable matters, a CT600 will normally need to be submitted. The accounts and accounting records you prepare are usually the starting point for that return, but the figures in the CT600 are not automatically the same as the accounting profit shown in your accounts. Corporation Tax is calculated on taxable profit, and the tax computation may need adjustments – for example, for disallowable expenditure or items treated differently for tax purposes. Filing the CT600 and paying any Corporation Tax due are also two separate obligations: submitting the return does not by itself settle the tax, and how much tax is payable depends on the company’s own circumstances and taxable position.

A CT600 is the Company Tax Return submitted to HMRC. It reports your company's Corporation Tax position for an accounting period, setting out items such as income, allowable deductions, taxable profit and the tax calculated on it. It is an HMRC document and is separate from the statutory accounts a company files at Companies House, even though both are usually prepared from the same accounting records.

Whether a company needs to file a Company Tax Return depends on its circumstances and on what HMRC has issued. A company that is within the charge to Corporation Tax and has been sent a notice to deliver a return is generally required to file one. Some companies are issued with a notice to deliver even when no Corporation Tax is expected to be payable. Because the position varies, it is worth checking your own company's notice and circumstances rather than assuming either way.

Yes. Statutory accounts are prepared under an accounting framework and filed with Companies House. The CT600 is a Corporation Tax Return filed with HMRC. They serve different purposes, go to different bodies, and can be prepared on slightly different bases. The accounting profit shown in your statutory accounts is usually the starting point for the tax computation, but it is not automatically the taxable profit reported on the CT600.

They are related but not the same thing. The Corporation Tax computation is the working that takes your accounting profit, adds back disallowable items, deducts allowable ones and arrives at taxable profit and the resulting tax figure. The CT600 is the return that reports the outcome of that work to HMRC. A good filing is built on a clear computation, because that is what shows how the reported figures were arrived at.

A company that qualifies as a micro-entity may still have Corporation Tax obligations and, where a return is required, will need to submit a Company Tax Return to HMRC in the usual way. There is no separate micro-entity CT600 form. The micro-entity accounting framework affects how the statutory accounts are prepared, but it does not by itself determine the Corporation Tax liability – that depends on the taxable position after any required tax adjustments.

Taxable profit generally starts with the accounting profit from your accounts, but adjustments are usually needed. Expenses that are not allowable for tax purposes may be added back, and items that are treated differently under tax rules may be adjusted. Capital allowances and other reliefs may also be relevant depending on your circumstances. The result is a Corporation Tax computation showing taxable profit and the tax due, which is then reported on the CT600.

No. Filing the return and paying any Corporation Tax due are separate obligations with separate processes. Submitting the CT600 reports your position to HMRC; the payment itself has to be made by the relevant method and date for your company. A return can also be filed showing no tax payable, depending on the company's circumstances. It is worth planning for both elements rather than assuming one follows automatically from the other.

Yes. A director can authorise an accountant or tax agent to prepare the return and submit it to HMRC on the company's behalf, and to act as the company's agent for Corporation Tax correspondence. You remain responsible for the accuracy and completeness of the information provided, which is why a proper review of the accounts and the tax adjustments matters. With records in good order, the filing process itself is usually straightforward once the figures have been agreed.

Late filing and late payment can lead to penalties and interest charges from HMRC, and the amount depends on factors such as how late the return or payment is and the company's own circumstances. Rather than relying on estimates, it is best to check HMRC's current published guidance or ask us for help. If a return is already overdue, acting quickly to get the position resolved usually gives you more options than waiting.
