CT600 Tax Return Filing in Peterborough: Prepare and Submit Your Company Tax Return to HMRC

CT600 Tax Return Filing in Peterborough means preparing and submitting your company’s Company Tax Return to HM Revenue & Customs, setting out the company’s Corporation Tax position for the accounting period. Professional support helps you bring together the figures from your accounting records, work through any tax adjustments needed to arrive at taxable profit, and file an accurate CT600 on time. It is important to be clear that the CT600 is not the same as the statutory accounts a company files with Companies House, and it is not a Confirmation Statement or a VAT Return. Each of those is a separate obligation with its own purpose and audience, and accounts preparation and Corporation Tax filing are related but distinct processes. Good CT600 Tax Return Filing brings accuracy, clarity and convenience: you get help interpreting the figures your accounts produce, a Corporation Tax computation that explains how taxable profit has been arrived at, and a return that is prepared in line with HMRC’s requirements. Clear, transparent pricing arrangements and fixed-fee options make the cost predictable before work begins. Whether your company is a micro-entity, a small company or larger, the goal is the same: a well-prepared Company Tax Return submitted correctly, with the supporting records and reasoning you can refer back to.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

What Is a Micro-Entity CT600? The Company Tax Return Explained for Smaller Companies in Peterborough

There is no separate official form called a “micro-entity CT600” — the CT600 is the Company Tax Return used for Corporation Tax purposes by companies generally, regardless of size. Where a micro-entity company has Corporation Tax obligations and is required to file a Company Tax Return, it does so using the same CT600 framework, with the answers and disclosures tailored to its own circumstances, activities and accounting period. The accounting dimension is where size really matters in practice: a micro-entity may prepare its statutory accounts under a simpler framework, such as FRS 105, which affects how the accounts are presented to Companies House, but the accounting framework does not by itself determine the company’s Corporation Tax liability. The CT600 is also separate from the statutory accounts, which are a different filing obligation with a different destination. Even so, the company’s accounting records and the figures in its accounts usually form the starting point for the Corporation Tax calculation. From there, adjustments may be needed — for example, to add back disallowable expenditure or to account for items treated differently for tax than for accounting — because taxable profit can differ from accounting profit. The result is the taxable profit used to work out the company’s Corporation Tax position. Two further points are worth keeping straight: not every micro-entity will owe Corporation Tax, since the company’s own circumstances and taxable position determine whether tax is payable, and filing the CT600 is not the same thing as paying any Corporation Tax that is due. The filing obligation and the payment obligation are separate, even though they relate to the same period.

A CT600 is the name of the form used to submit a Company Tax Return to HM Revenue & Customs. It reports a company's Corporation Tax position for an accounting period: the company's details, the period covered, the figures from which taxable profit has been calculated, the Corporation Tax chargeable and any reliefs or deductions being claimed. It is submitted to HMRC, not to Companies House, and it is the document that sits behind a company's Corporation Tax filing obligations.

Yes — they are two separate filings with two separate purposes. Statutory accounts are prepared for the company's members and filed at Companies House, and they present the company's financial position and performance under the applicable accounting framework. The CT600 is a tax return submitted to HMRC, reporting the company's Corporation Tax position. The figures in the accounts usually inform the tax return, but they are not the same document, they are not filed with the same body, and meeting one obligation does not automatically meet the other.

It depends on the company's circumstances. Being a micro-entity affects how the statutory accounts may be prepared and presented — it does not create a separate version of the CT600, and it also does not automatically remove Corporation Tax obligations. Where a company is within the charge to Corporation Tax and HMRC requires a Company Tax Return for the period, a CT600 is needed. Not every micro-entity will owe Corporation Tax, and whether tax is payable depends on the company's own taxable position. It is worth checking your company's specific situation rather than assuming either way.

No. The Corporation Tax computation is the working paper that starts with the company's accounting profit, applies the relevant tax adjustments, and arrives at the taxable profit and the Corporation Tax figure. The CT600 is the return that reports the outcome of that work to HMRC. In practice they are prepared together — you cannot sensibly complete one without the other — but the computation is the supporting calculation and the CT600 is the filing.

The usual starting point is the profit shown in the company's accounts for the period. Tax adjustments are then applied to that accounting profit to reach taxable profit. Adjustments can go in either direction: some expenditure deducted in the accounts may need to be added back because it is not allowable for tax, while certain tax-specific reliefs, allowances or deductions may be available that are not reflected in the accounts. The exact adjustments depend on the company's transactions, its accounting policies and the tax rules for that period, which is why a properly prepared computation matters.

No — filing and payment are separate obligations. Submitting the CT600 tells HMRC what the company's Corporation Tax position is for the period, but it does not itself transfer money. Any Corporation Tax that is due, and any payments on account that may apply, are dealt with separately. A company can have a filing obligation even where no Corporation Tax is ultimately payable, and the amount payable is determined by the taxable position rather than by the act of filing.

Yes. A company can appoint an agent to prepare and submit its Company Tax Return, and many businesses do exactly that because it removes the need to work through tax adjustments and HMRC's filing process in-house. You remain responsible for the accuracy of the information provided and for ensuring the company's records are complete, so the working relationship matters: you supply the figures and context, and the agent prepares the computation and return and handles the submission. Authorising an agent with HMRC is a normal part of that process.

Missing a filing date is best avoided, because HMRC can apply penalties and charge interest on late Corporation Tax. The consequences depend on how late the return is and on the company's particular circumstances, and HMRC will normally contact the company directly about anything it considers due. If you think a return is going to be late, or you have already missed a date, it is worth speaking to HMRC or to whoever prepares your return as early as possible so the position can be addressed rather than left to build up.
