CT600 Tax Return Filing in Leyburn — Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

CT600 Tax Return Filing is the process of preparing and submitting a company’s Company Tax Return to HMRC, setting out its Corporation Tax position for the accounting period. Our CT600 Tax Return Filing service in Leyburn is built around taking the guesswork out of that process: we work through your accounting records, prepare the supporting Corporation Tax computation, consider the adjustments needed to move from accounting profit to taxable profit, and submit the completed CT600 to HMRC on the company’s behalf. It is important to be clear that the CT600 is not the same as your statutory accounts. Statutory accounts are filed separately with Companies House, while the CT600 goes to HMRC and reports your Corporation Tax position. Because these are two distinct obligations, aimed at two different audiences, keeping them aligned without confusing them matters. Professional support brings accuracy, clarity and convenience, so the figures reported are consistent with your records and your filing responsibilities are handled carefully and on time.

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

What Is a Micro-Entity CT600? Corporation Tax Returns for Smaller Companies in Leyburn

There is no separate official “micro-entity CT600” form. The CT600 is the same Company Tax Return used by companies generally, whatever their size — what differs for a micro-entity is the context around it. A company that qualifies as a micro-entity may prepare simpler accounts under a reduced disclosure framework and may keep lighter records, but it can still have Corporation Tax obligations. Where HMRC requires a Company Tax Return — for example because a notice to deliver a return has been issued, or because the company has trading activity or a taxable position to report — the company needs to prepare and submit a CT600 to HMRC covering that accounting period. The CT600 is separate from the statutory accounts filed with Companies House. The accounts and underlying accounting records often feed into the Corporation Tax calculation, but they are not the same document and they do not go to the same place. It is also worth understanding that accounting profit and taxable profit are not automatically the same figure. A Corporation Tax computation may require adjustments — such as adding back disallowable expenses or reflecting capital allowances and other reliefs — before taxable profit is arrived at. Whether a micro-entity actually owes Corporation Tax depends on its own circumstances and taxable position, and filing the CT600 is a separate obligation from paying any Corporation Tax that may be due.

Micro-Entity CT600 FAQs

Still unsure where you stand? Reach out to our UK team at info@microentityaccounts.co.uk and we will review your filing history with you.

The CT600 is the form HMRC uses to collect a company's Company Tax Return. It reports the company's Corporation Tax position for an accounting period — the period covered, details of the company's trade and turnover, and the figures that support the calculation of taxable profit and any Corporation Tax payable or repayable. In practice, we prepare the CT600 from your accounting records and supporting workings, then submit it to HMRC with the accompanying computations the return relies on. Put simply, it is the formal way a company tells HMRC what its Corporation Tax position is.

A company generally needs to file a Company Tax Return where HMRC has issued a notice to deliver one, or where it has Corporation Tax obligations for an accounting period. That can be the case even if no Corporation Tax ends up being payable, so it is unwise to assume a filing is unnecessary simply because a period looks quiet. Companies that are dormant or that have not traded can have different obligations again, and the position depends on the individual company's circumstances. If you are unsure whether a return is required, it is worth checking with HMRC or with an adviser rather than leaving it to chance.

Yes — they are two separate filings with two separate purposes. Statutory accounts are prepared for the company's members and filed at Companies House under company law requirements, and they follow the applicable accounting framework and disclosure rules. The CT600 is a Corporation Tax return submitted to HMRC, reporting the company's taxable position and Corporation Tax liability. The figures in your accounts usually form the starting point for the Corporation Tax computation that supports the CT600, but the accounts themselves are not the tax return. Meeting one obligation does not automatically satisfy the other, and the two filings can have different deadlines and different formats.

They are closely related, but they are not the same thing. The Corporation Tax computation is the working calculation: it starts with the accounting profit shown in your accounts, applies the adjustments needed to arrive at taxable profit, and then works through the rules to establish the Corporation Tax position. The CT600 is the return that reports the resulting figures to HMRC. You can think of the computation as the supporting workings and the CT600 as the formal submission built on top of them. Preparing one without the other leaves a gap in the filing, so we handle both together.

It can do. Being a micro-entity affects how your accounts are prepared and what they disclose — it does not by itself remove Corporation Tax filing obligations. Where HMRC has issued a notice to deliver a Company Tax Return, or where the company has a taxable position to report, a CT600 is generally required. Equally, not every micro-entity will owe Corporation Tax; that depends on the company's own circumstances and its taxable profits after adjustments. It is also worth remembering that the accounting framework you use does not determine your Corporation Tax liability — the tax computation does, based on the applicable tax rules.

Taxable profit starts from the accounting profit in your accounts, but it is rarely the same figure. The Corporation Tax computation applies adjustments: certain expenses shown in the accounts may be disallowed for tax purposes, income may be treated differently, and reliefs such as capital allowances may reduce the taxable amount. Timing differences can also arise, where an item is recognised in a different period for tax than for accounting. Each adjustment needs to be supported by your records and applied consistently. Once the adjustments are made and taxable profit is established, the Corporation Tax position follows from the rules applicable to that period.

No — the filing obligation and the payment obligation are separate. Filing the CT600 reports your Corporation Tax position to HMRC; it does not itself settle any liability. A company might file a return showing no Corporation Tax due, or it might file a return and then need to pay the Corporation Tax it has calculated. Payment needs to reach HMRC in its own right, by an appropriate method and in line with the payment due date for the period, so it is worth treating the two as distinct tasks rather than assuming one covers the other.

If a Company Tax Return is filed after the filing deadline for the accounting period, HMRC may issue penalties, and interest can arise on any Corporation Tax that remains unpaid. The exact outcome depends on the circumstances — how late the return is, whether a liability exists, and HMRC's published rules for that situation — so it is not something that can be reduced to a single fixed consequence. If you think a return may be late, the practical steps are to speak to HMRC or an adviser promptly, get the return prepared and submitted as soon as possible, and make sure any tax due is dealt with separately.
