We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

What Is a Micro-Entity CT600? How Smaller Companies Approach CT600 Tax Return Filing

There is no separate official ‘micro-entity CT600’ form — a micro-entity company uses the same CT600 to report its Corporation Tax position to HMRC as any other company. What differs is the context: a smaller company often keeps simpler accounting records and may prepare accounts under a lighter reporting framework, but its Corporation Tax obligations are still determined by its own circumstances and taxable position, which means not every micro-entity will owe Corporation Tax. Where a Company Tax Return is required, the figures from the accounting records and accounts are usually the starting point for the tax calculation, and that calculation can involve adjustments — for example, disallowable expenses or capital allowances — so the taxable profit may differ from the accounting profit. Where accounts are prepared under a framework such as FRS 105, that framework governs how the accounts are presented; it does not by itself decide the Corporation Tax liability. Statutory accounts and the CT600 are separate filings with separate purposes, and filing the CT600 is also separate from paying any Corporation Tax that is due.

The CT600 is the form HMRC uses for a Company Tax Return. It sets out a company's Corporation Tax position for an accounting period, including the figures that make up the Corporation Tax computation, such as income, allowable deductions, reliefs being claimed and the resulting taxable profit and tax liability. The CT600 is submitted to HMRC, and it is a different document from the statutory accounts that a company files at Companies House. Most companies file their CT600 online, and it must be supported by the appropriate computations and, where required, a copy of the accounts.

Statutory accounts and a CT600 serve different purposes and go to different organisations. Statutory accounts are prepared for the company's members and filed with Companies House, showing the company's financial position and performance in line with the applicable accounting framework. The CT600 is a tax return submitted to HMRC reporting the company's Corporation Tax position. The accounts and the tax return are related, because the accounting figures are generally the starting point for the tax calculation, but they are separate obligations with separate contents and separate filing routes.

No, they are closely linked but not the same thing. The Corporation Tax computation is the working document that starts with the accounting profit and makes the adjustments needed to arrive at the taxable profit and the resulting Corporation Tax liability — for example, adding back disallowable expenditure, deducting allowable items and accounting for capital allowances. The CT600 is the actual return submitted to HMRC, and the figures from the computation flow into it. You generally need both: the computation to show how the numbers were reached, and the CT600 to report them.

It depends on the company's circumstances rather than on its size alone. There is no separate micro-entity version of the CT600 — a small company uses the same return as any other. Many companies are required to submit a Company Tax Return to HMRC, but whether a particular company must file, and whether any Corporation Tax is actually payable, depends on its taxable position and on HMRC's requirements for that company. If you are unsure whether a return or a notification is needed for your company, it is worth checking your position rather than assuming that being small means nothing is due.

A typical preparation starts with the accounting records for the period, the draft or final statutory accounts, and details of income, expenses, capital purchases, loans and any other transactions that may affect the tax position. Information about brought-forward losses, reliefs previously claimed and any payments already made towards Corporation Tax is also useful. If an accountant prepares and files the return on the company's behalf, they will usually ask for bank statements, invoices, payroll information and similar supporting records so that the computation can be built and checked properly.

Taxable profit starts with the accounting profit shown in the accounts, but it is rarely identical to it. The Corporation Tax computation adjusts the accounting figure — typically by adding back expenditure that is not allowable for tax purposes and deducting items that are treated differently for tax, and by bringing in capital allowances instead of depreciation on qualifying assets. The result is the taxable profit on which Corporation Tax is calculated. Because these adjustments depend on the company's own transactions, the gap between accounting profit and taxable profit varies from company to company.

No — filing and payment are separate obligations. Filing the CT600 reports the company's Corporation Tax position to HMRC, while payment is the separate act of settling any Corporation Tax that is due. A company can be required to file a Company Tax Return even where no Corporation Tax is payable, and the CT600 itself may show a nil liability. Equally, if tax is payable, submitting the return on time does not automatically mean the tax has been paid, so it is worth keeping an eye on both the filing and payment sides of your Corporation Tax responsibilities.

Filing after the statutory deadline can lead to penalties and interest from HMRC, and the longer the delay, the more significant the consequences can become. What applies in any individual case depends on the company's circumstances and on HMRC's rules at the time, so it is best not to rely on assumptions. The more practical point is that late filing is usually avoidable: keeping records up to date and starting the CT600 preparation early gives far more room to deal with queries or missing information before the deadline.
