CT600 Tax Return Filing in Kingston upon Thames: Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

CT600 Tax Return Filing is the process of preparing and submitting your company’s Company Tax Return to HMRC so that your Corporation Tax position is reported accurately. If your company is based in Kingston upon Thames, professional support with CT600 Tax Return Filing can help you pull together the figures from your accounting records, review the tax adjustments needed to move from accounting profit to taxable profit, and submit the completed return to HMRC through the appropriate channel. It is important to understand that the CT600 is not the same as the statutory accounts you file with Companies House. Statutory accounts are a separate filing obligation and go to a different authority, even though the accounting figures behind them often feed into the Corporation Tax computation. Good CT600 Tax Return Filing brings accuracy, a clear audit trail and a welcome reduction in administrative pressure, so you can get on with running the business while the return is prepared correctly.

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

What Is a Micro-Entity CT600? How CT600 Tax Return Filing Works for Smaller Companies

There is no separate official “micro-entity CT600” form. A CT600 is simply the Company Tax Return that companies use to report their Corporation Tax position to HMRC, and micro-entity companies use exactly the same return as any other company. What differs is the wider context: a micro-entity may prepare its statutory accounts under a simplified accounting framework, and those simpler accounts can still form the starting point for the tax calculation. Where a company has Corporation Tax obligations and HMRC has asked for a return, or the company otherwise needs to file one, a Company Tax Return (CT600) must be submitted to HMRC. This is a separate process from filing statutory accounts with Companies House, and it is also separate from paying any Corporation Tax that is due — filing and payment are distinct obligations with their own timelines. Expect the taxable profit shown in the return to differ from the accounting profit in the accounts, because the Corporation Tax computation can require adjustments: disallowable expenses may be added back, allowable deductions and reliefs may be claimed, and capital items may be treated under the capital allowances rules rather than as ordinary business costs. Not every micro-entity will owe Corporation Tax — whether any is payable depends on the company’s own circumstances and taxable position — but the reporting and record-keeping work still needs to be done properly. Accounting framework choices do not by themselves determine a company’s Corporation Tax liability; the tax computation does.

A CT600 is the formal Company Tax Return that a company submits to HMRC to report its Corporation Tax position for an accounting period. It sets out the company's taxable profit, the Corporation Tax calculated on it, and any reliefs or deductions being claimed. In practice, a CT600 is usually submitted electronically along with a Corporation Tax computation and, in many cases, a copy of the statutory accounts. It is a tax filing, not an accounts filing, and it is submitted to HMRC rather than to Companies House.

Yes. CT600 is simply the name of the form used for a Company Tax Return, so the two terms refer to the same filing. You will also hear it described as a Corporation Tax Return or Corporation Tax filing. Whichever term is used, the purpose is the same: reporting the company's taxable profit and Corporation Tax liability for an accounting period to HMRC. For our purposes, CT600 Tax Return Filing covers preparing that return, working out the figures behind it and submitting it to HMRC.

They are two distinct filings with two different authorities. Statutory accounts are prepared for Companies House and for the company's members, and they follow the applicable accounting framework. A CT600 is prepared for HMRC and reports the company's Corporation Tax position. The figures overlap, because the accounts are usually the starting point for the tax calculation, but the CT600 is not a copy of the accounts. It also includes tax-specific information such as adjustments to accounting profit and claims for reliefs, so the two documents can look quite different even when they describe the same year.

Some micro-entity companies do need to file a Company Tax Return, and others do not, depending on their circumstances and whether HMRC has issued a notice to file. There is no separate micro-entity version of the CT600 — the same return applies. It is also worth remembering that using simplified accounting rules for the statutory accounts does not automatically decide the Corporation Tax outcome; the tax computation does that. If you are unsure whether a return is required for your company, it is worth checking your position rather than assuming either way.

The Corporation Tax computation is the working paper that takes your accounting profit and adjusts it to arrive at taxable profit. It deals with items such as expenses that are not allowable for tax, allowable deductions, and capital items handled under the capital allowances rules rather than as ordinary business costs. The CT600 is the return form itself, which reports the results of that computation to HMRC along with the Corporation Tax due. In short, the computation is the calculation and the CT600 is the filing. Both need to be prepared carefully, and the figures on the return should be supported by the computation.

Taxable profit starts with the profit shown in your accounts and is then adjusted for tax purposes. Typical adjustments include adding back expenditure that is not allowable for Corporation Tax, deducting items that are allowable but were not treated as expenses in the accounts, and replacing the accounting treatment of capital purchases with capital allowances. Other reliefs and deductions may also apply depending on the company's activities. Because these adjustments depend on the individual company's transactions, taxable profit often differs from accounting profit — and it is the taxable profit figure that drives the Corporation Tax liability reported on the CT600.

No, they are separate obligations. Filing the CT600 is about reporting your company's taxable profit and Corporation Tax position to HMRC. Paying Corporation Tax is about settling the liability that arises from that calculation, and the payment deadline is not necessarily the same as the filing deadline. A company can submit its return on time and still have a payment obligation with its own due date, and in some cases there may be no Corporation Tax to pay at all while a return is still required. Keeping the two obligations distinct in your diary helps avoid unnecessary problems.

If a Company Tax Return is filed after the due date, HMRC can apply penalties and may also charge interest on any Corporation Tax paid late. The amount depends on how late the return is and on the company's circumstances, and HMRC publishes the details of how penalties are calculated. Separately, filing a return that is incomplete or inaccurate can lead to HMRC asking questions or amending the return. The safest approach is to start the CT600 Tax Return Filing process early, with your accounting records and tax adjustments in order well ahead of the deadline.
