CT600 Tax Return Filing in Kidderminster: Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

CT600 Tax Return Filing is the process of preparing and submitting your company’s Company Tax Return to HMRC so that your Corporation Tax position is reported accurately and on time. At Micro Entity Accounts, we work with limited companies across Kidderminster and the surrounding area to pull together the figures from your bookkeeping and accounts, review the tax adjustments that may be needed, and submit a complete CT600 to HMRC. It is important to understand that the CT600 is a separate filing from your statutory accounts, which are prepared under the relevant accounting framework and filed with Companies House — the two serve different purposes, are sent to different bodies, and can fall due at different times. Professional support means your accounting profit is properly reconciled to your taxable profit, your records are organised, and the return is filed with clarity and confidence rather than last-minute guesswork.

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

What Does CT600 Tax Return Filing Mean for a Micro-Entity Company?

There is no separate official “micro-entity CT600” form — a micro-entity company that is within the charge to Corporation Tax uses the same CT600 Company Tax Return as any other limited company. The difference lies in the accounting: a company that qualifies as a micro-entity may prepare its statutory accounts under a simpler framework, but that choice of accounting framework does not by itself determine the company’s Corporation Tax liability. Where HMRC requires a return, the company needs to submit a CT600 reporting its Corporation Tax position, and the figures in its accounting records and statutory accounts are usually the starting point for that calculation. Because Corporation Tax is charged on taxable profit rather than accounting profit, the two figures can differ: the Corporation Tax computation may need adjustments, such as adding back disallowable expenditure or accounting for capital allowances, before the taxable profit and any Corporation Tax liability are confirmed. Equally, not every micro-entity will owe Corporation Tax — whether tax is payable depends on the company’s own circumstances and taxable position. It is also worth keeping in mind that filing the CT600 and paying any Corporation Tax due are separate obligations, with the filing of the return and the settling of the liability handled as distinct steps.

A CT600 is the form HMRC uses for a Company Tax Return. It is the document through which a limited company reports its Corporation Tax position for an accounting period, including the figures used to calculate taxable profit and any Corporation Tax due, along with supporting information such as the Corporation Tax computation and, in many cases, a copy of the statutory accounts. The CT600 is submitted to HMRC, not to Companies House.

Yes — they are two separate filings with two separate purposes. Statutory accounts are prepared under an accounting framework and filed at Companies House, where they become part of the public record. A CT600 is a tax return submitted to HMRC to report the company's Corporation Tax position. The two often share the same underlying figures, but they are not interchangeable, and completing one does not satisfy the obligation to complete the other.

It can do. There is no separate micro-entity version of the CT600, and whether a particular company is required to submit a Company Tax Return depends on its own circumstances and on notices issued by HMRC rather than on its size alone. Many small and micro companies do have to file, so it is worth checking your position rather than assuming that a simpler set of accounts means no return is needed. Where a return is required, it must be prepared and submitted in the usual way.

The Corporation Tax computation is the working paper that starts with your accounting profit and adjusts it to arrive at taxable profit — for example by adding back disallowable expenditure or allowing capital allowances. The CT600 is the return form on which those results are reported to HMRC. In practice the computation supports the CT600: you do the calculation first, then enter the resulting figures on the return.

Typically you will need your accounting records for the period, a trial balance or set of accounts, details of income and expenditure, information on fixed assets and any capital expenditure, and records of any other matters that affect the tax position, such as losses brought forward. The exact information depends on what the company does. Having your bookkeeping kept up to date throughout the year makes the CT600 preparation far quicker and reduces the number of queries that come up at the end.

Taxable profit starts from the profit shown in your accounts, but it is not automatically the same figure. The Corporation Tax computation may require adjustments — for instance adding back costs that are not allowable for tax, deducting capital allowances instead of depreciation, or dealing with income that is treated differently for tax purposes. Once those adjustments are made, the resulting taxable profit is the figure used to work out any Corporation Tax liability.

No. Filing the CT600 is the reporting step: it tells HMRC what the company's position is for the period. Paying Corporation Tax is a separate obligation, and the amount payable, along with when it falls due, depends on the company's circumstances and the liability calculated. Submitting the return does not itself settle the tax, and paying the tax does not remove the need to file the return.

Yes. A company can authorise an agent to act on its behalf, which allows that agent to prepare the Corporation Tax computation, complete the CT600, and submit it to HMRC using the company's details. This is how most businesses approach CT600 Tax Return Filing in Kidderminster — the director or accountant retains responsibility for the accuracy of the information, while the agent handles the technical preparation and the mechanics of the submission.
