CT600 Tax Return Filing in Isle Of Mull — Prepare and Submit Your Company Tax Return to HMRC

CT600 Tax Return Filing is the process of preparing and submitting a company’s Corporation Tax Return to HMRC, reporting the company’s income, allowable deductions and resulting Corporation Tax position for an accounting period. For companies based in Isle Of Mull and across the UK, professional support with CT600 Tax Return Filing means the figures behind the return are reviewed properly, any tax adjustments needed to move from accounting profit to taxable profit are considered, and the Company Tax Return is submitted accurately and on time. It is important to understand that a CT600 is not the same as the statutory accounts a company files with Companies House, nor is it a Confirmation Statement, a VAT Return or a Self Assessment tax return. Those are separate obligations with separate purposes. The statutory accounts present the company’s financial position to Companies House and to shareholders, while the CT600 reports the company’s Corporation Tax position to HMRC. The two are prepared from the same underlying records, but they serve different audiences and follow different rules. Our approach to CT600 Tax Return Filing is built around accuracy, clarity and convenience: we help you understand what information is required, how your accounting figures translate into a Corporation Tax computation, and what needs to be filed. Pricing is clear and transparent, with fixed-fee options available, so you know where you stand before work begins.

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

What Is a Micro-Entity CT600? How CT600 Tax Return Filing Works for Micro-Entity Companies

There is no separate official ‘micro-entity CT600’ form. The CT600 is the standard Company Tax Return used by companies to report their Corporation Tax position to HMRC, and it applies regardless of whether a company prepares its accounts under a micro-entity accounting framework such as FRS 105 or under a larger-company framework. What differs for a micro-entity company is usually the size and complexity of the figures going into the return — not the form itself. A micro-entity company may still have Corporation Tax obligations, and where HMRC requires a Company Tax Return to be filed, the company needs to complete and submit a CT600 for the relevant accounting period. Preparing the CT600 is a separate exercise from preparing and filing statutory accounts with Companies House, even though the two are closely connected. The statutory accounts are generally the starting point for the Corporation Tax computation, because the company’s accounting records and reported figures are used to work out the tax position. Importantly, the taxable profit reported on the CT600 is not automatically the same as the accounting profit shown in the accounts. Corporation Tax calculations frequently require adjustments — for example, adding back disallowable expenditure, deducting capital allowances instead of depreciation, or dealing with income and expenses that are treated differently for tax than for accounting. Once those adjustments are made, the taxable profit and any resulting Corporation Tax liability are determined. It is also worth being clear that not every micro-entity company will owe Corporation Tax; whether tax is payable depends on the company’s own circumstances and taxable position. Likewise, filing a CT600 and paying any Corporation Tax due are separate obligations — submitting the return does not itself settle the tax, and paying the tax does not remove the need to file.

A CT600 is the form a company uses to submit its Company Tax Return to HMRC. It reports the company's income, allowable deductions and resulting Corporation Tax position for a specific accounting period. The CT600 is filed with HMRC — not with Companies House — and it is normally accompanied by a Corporation Tax computation and, in many cases, a copy of the statutory accounts. In practice, most companies now submit their CT600 online, and the figures need to reconcile with the accounts and computations supporting them.

A Company Tax Return is the overall submission a company makes to HMRC to report its Corporation Tax position. The CT600 form sits at the centre of it, supported by a Corporation Tax computation that shows how taxable profit has been calculated, plus copies of the statutory accounts and any other required supplementary information. A Company Tax Return is therefore broader than the CT600 form alone, although the two terms are often used interchangeably in everyday conversation.

A company generally needs to file a Company Tax Return when HMRC has issued a notice to deliver one, or when the company has a Corporation Tax liability or other circumstances that require a return to be submitted. This applies to limited companies and other bodies that fall within the charge to Corporation Tax. Whether a specific company must file — and for which periods — depends on its own circumstances, so it is worth checking the position rather than assuming. If you are unsure whether a return is required for your company, we can help you work through it.

Yes, they are separate filings with separate purposes. Statutory accounts are prepared for the company's members and are filed with Companies House, presenting the company's financial position for the period. A CT600 is the Company Tax Return submitted to HMRC, reporting the company's Corporation Tax position. The accounts are usually the starting point for the tax computation, but the CT600 is not a substitute for filing accounts, and filing accounts at Companies House does not satisfy the Corporation Tax filing obligation.

They are related but not the same thing. The Corporation Tax computation is the working document that starts with the accounting profit from the accounts and applies the necessary tax adjustments — such as adding back disallowable expenditure, deducting capital allowances and treating certain income or expenses differently for tax purposes — to arrive at taxable profit and the resulting Corporation Tax liability. The CT600 is the form on which those results are reported to HMRC. In most cases the computation accompanies the CT600 when it is filed.

It may do, but not automatically in every case. The accounting framework a company uses — such as the micro-entity regime — affects how its accounts are prepared; it does not by itself determine whether a Company Tax Return is required or how much Corporation Tax is payable. A micro-entity company that has received a notice to deliver a return, or that has Corporation Tax obligations to report, will generally need to complete and submit a CT600 for the relevant period. Not every micro-entity company will owe Corporation Tax, and filing the CT600 is a separate matter from paying any tax that is due.

Typically you will need the company's accounting records for the period, a set of accounts or detailed trial balance, details of income and expenditure, information on fixed assets and any capital expenditure, records of any expenses that may need to be added back for tax purposes, and any other income or adjustments relevant to the company's tax position. It also helps to have details of any prior-year losses or reliefs that may affect the calculation. The exact list depends on the company's activities, so we usually agree what is needed up front to keep things straightforward.

The starting point is normally the accounting profit shown in the company's accounts for the period. From there, tax adjustments are applied. Expenditure that is not allowable for Corporation Tax purposes may be added back, depreciation is usually replaced with capital allowances, and certain items of income or expense may be treated differently for tax than for accounting. Non-taxable income may be deducted, and any reliefs or losses available are taken into account. The result is the taxable profit on which Corporation Tax is calculated. Because these adjustments depend on the specific transactions involved, the calculation is tailored to each company.

No — filing and payment are separate obligations. Submitting the CT600 reports the company's Corporation Tax position to HMRC; it does not by itself settle any tax that is due. Where Corporation Tax is payable, payment must be made separately, and the timing of payment can differ from the filing date. Equally, if no tax is payable, a return may still be required. It is worth keeping both elements in view so that neither is overlooked.

If a Company Tax Return is filed after the applicable deadline, HMRC may charge penalties and interest, and the exact treatment depends on how late the return is and the circumstances involved. The company may also receive reminders or notices from HMRC. Because the consequences and any amounts involved are determined by HMRC under its own rules, the best approach is to check HMRC's current guidance or speak to us about your specific situation. Where a deadline is approaching and information is not yet complete, it is usually better to raise it early rather than wait.

Yes. A company can appoint an agent to prepare and submit its Company Tax Return to HMRC on its behalf, and many businesses choose to do so. The company remains responsible for the accuracy of the information provided and for ensuring its filing obligations are met, so it is important to supply complete and correct records. Working with a professional can help with the tax adjustments, the Corporation Tax computation and the practical side of getting the return submitted correctly.
