We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

What Is the CT600 for a Micro-Entity Company?

There is no separate official “micro-entity CT600” form — the CT600 is the same Company Tax Return used by companies generally, and it is submitted to HMRC to report a company’s Corporation Tax position. A company that meets the micro-entity criteria is simply a smaller company for accounts purposes; if it is within the scope of Corporation Tax and has been asked to file, it will still need to complete and submit a Company Tax Return in the normal way. The CT600 is separate from the statutory accounts that are filed with Companies House, although those accounts and the underlying accounting records often provide the starting point for the Corporation Tax calculation. That calculation is not automatic: taxable profit can differ from accounting profit because adjustments may be required — for example, for disallowable expenditure, capital allowances or other tax-specific treatments. That is also why filing a CT600 is not the same as paying Corporation Tax, and whether any Corporation Tax is actually payable depends on the company’s own circumstances and taxable position. Choosing a simpler accounting framework such as FRS 105 affects how the accounts are prepared, but it does not by itself determine the company’s Corporation Tax liability.

A CT600 is the form used to submit a Company Tax Return to HMRC. It sets out the company's details, the period the return covers, and the figures that support its Corporation Tax position, including the taxable profit figure and the resulting Corporation Tax liability (or the reason none arises). It is a tax return, not a set of accounts, and it is submitted to HMRC rather than to Companies House. In most cases the CT600 is filed electronically, and supporting computations and accounts are submitted alongside it.

Yes — they are two separate filing obligations with two different recipients. Statutory accounts are prepared under an accounting framework and filed at Companies House, where they become part of the public record. The CT600 is the Company Tax Return submitted to HMRC for Corporation Tax purposes. The two are related, because the figures in your accounts usually form the starting point for the tax calculation, but they are not the same document and filing one does not satisfy the other. A company generally needs to consider both, along with its Confirmation Statement and any VAT Returns that apply to it.

Possibly, but it depends on the company's circumstances. Being a micro-entity is an accounting classification based on size thresholds for accounts purposes — it does not switch Corporation Tax obligations on or off, and it does not create a special version of the CT600. Whether a return is required can depend on factors such as whether the company has received a notice to file from HMRC, whether it is dormant, and whether any exemption applies to it. If a return is required, the company needs to submit a Company Tax Return even if no Corporation Tax ends up being payable.

Yes, and the two work together rather than replacing each other. The Corporation Tax computation is the working paper that starts with your accounting profit, applies the tax adjustments needed for Corporation Tax purposes, and arrives at the taxable profit and the tax due. The CT600 is the return form on which those results are reported to HMRC. In practice you prepare the computation first, then enter the resulting figures into the CT600 and submit both. That is why a CT600 cannot simply be copied from the accounts without some tax analysis in between.

The starting point is normally the profit shown in your accounts. From there, adjustments may be required to reach taxable profit: expenditure that is not allowable for tax purposes may be added back, income that is treated differently for tax may be adjusted, and reliefs or allowances such as capital allowances may be deducted. The exact adjustments depend entirely on the company's transactions and circumstances, which is why accounting profit and taxable profit often differ. Because the adjustments vary from company to company, a review of the ledgers and records is usually needed before the CT600 figures can be finalised.

No. Filing is the reporting step — you tell HMRC what the company's position is by submitting the Company Tax Return. Payment is a separate obligation, with its own timeline, and it can fall due before or after the return is filed depending on the company's circumstances. Submitting a CT600 showing a liability does not settle it, and paying an amount does not remove the need to file. Keeping the two clearly separated in your records helps avoid confusion, particularly where a company's taxable position changes during the year.

In broad terms you will need the company's accounting records and either the final accounts or a trial balance for the period, details of fixed asset purchases and disposals, information on any income treated differently for tax, and records of expenses that may need to be added back, such as certain entertaining or non-business costs. Company details, the accounting period dates, and any previous returns or losses carried forward are also relevant. If you are unsure what applies to your company, we can work through it with you and confirm what is needed before preparation begins.

Filing after the due date can lead to HMRC penalties and interest, and the position generally worsens the longer a return remains outstanding. The exact consequences depend on the company's circumstances and HMRC's own rules, so we would not treat any outcome as fixed. The practical point is that late filing is avoidable in most cases by working to a clear schedule. If you are already behind, or you are unsure whether a return was required, it is worth getting advice promptly rather than waiting.
