CT600 Tax Return Filing in Ibstock: Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

Filing a CT600 Tax Return is one of the most important administrative tasks your company completes for each accounting period, and it is a completely separate obligation from the statutory accounts you file with Companies House. The CT600 is the Company Tax Return submitted to HMRC, and it reports your company’s Corporation Tax position rather than replacing your annual accounts. Our CT600 Tax Return Filing service in Ibstock is built around directors and business owners who want that job handled properly: we review your accounting records, prepare the Corporation Tax computation that converts accounting profit into taxable profit where adjustments are required, and submit the return to HMRC on your behalf. The emphasis is on accuracy, clarity and convenience — you should understand what has been included in your return and why, without wading through technical jargon. Whether your company is a straightforward micro-entity or a growing trading company with more complex transactions, professional support helps you approach Corporation Tax reporting with confidence and keeps your records in an organised, usable state for future periods.

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

What Is a Micro-Entity CT600 and How Does It Relate to Corporation Tax for Smaller Companies in Ibstock?

It is worth clearing up a common misunderstanding: there is no separate official “micro-entity CT600” form. A CT600 is simply the Company Tax Return used by HMRC, and the same core return applies whether the company is a large group or a small, owner-managed business in Ibstock. What changes for smaller companies is the accounting side. A company that qualifies as a micro-entity may prepare its statutory accounts under a simplified framework such as FRS 105 for filing at Companies House, and it may also benefit from simpler disclosure requirements. However, the accounting framework itself does not determine the company’s Corporation Tax liability. Regardless of how the accounts are prepared, a company may still have Corporation Tax obligations, and where HMRC has issued a notice to deliver a Company Tax Return, the company is expected to submit one — even if no Corporation Tax turns out to be payable. The CT600 and the statutory accounts are separate documents serving separate purposes, although the figures in the accounts are usually the starting point for the Corporation Tax computation. That computation may require adjustments, because taxable profit can differ from accounting profit: some expenses shown in the accounts may not be allowable for tax, certain reliefs or allowances may reduce taxable profit, and timing differences can shift when income or deductions are recognised for tax purposes. Filing the CT600 and paying any Corporation Tax that is due are also separate obligations with their own timelines, so a company should not assume that submitting the return settles its tax position. Where there is no taxable profit — for example because of available losses or reliefs — any liability depends entirely on that company’s own circumstances and taxable position.

Take the Admin Burden Out of Your CT600 Tax Return Filing

Preparing a Company Tax Return is rarely the part of running a business that anyone looks forward to. Between keeping Corporation Tax records organised, working out which expenses are allowable, and turning accounting profit into taxable profit through a properly reasoned tax computation, it is easy to lose hours you would rather spend on the business itself. Micro Entity Accounts supports companies in Ibstock and beyond with practical CT600 Tax Return Filing support: preparing the CT600, building the Corporation Tax computation, reviewing potential tax adjustments, and submitting the return to HMRC through the appropriate channels. We explain the figures behind your return in plain English so you can see how your taxable profit was arrived at, and we keep your supporting records structured and ready for the next accounting period. If your return is approaching and you would rather hand it to someone who deals with these filings regularly, get in touch with our team to talk through your company’s position and the options available.

A CT600 is the form used to submit a Company Tax Return to HMRC. It sets out the company's income, allowable deductions, reliefs and allowances for a given accounting period and reports the resulting Corporation Tax position. The CT600 is normally supported by a Corporation Tax computation and by accounts prepared in the format HMRC expects, and it is generally submitted online. Filing the return tells HMRC what the company's position is; it is not the same action as paying any Corporation Tax that may be due.

Broadly, a company needs to file a Company Tax Return where HMRC has issued a notice to deliver one, or where the company has Corporation Tax obligations for the period in question. That applies to limited companies and to other entities within the charge to Corporation Tax, and it can apply even where no tax ends up being payable — for example where losses or reliefs reduce the taxable profit to nil. Because the position depends on the individual company's circumstances, it is worth checking whether a return is expected for a particular period rather than assuming it is not needed.

Yes — they are two separate filings with two separate recipients. Statutory accounts are prepared for the company's members and filed at Companies House under the Companies Act requirements. The CT600 is a tax return submitted to HMRC and reports the company's Corporation Tax position. The two are related in that the figures in the accounts usually feed into the Corporation Tax computation, but they are separate documents with different purposes, different formats and different filing processes. A company can be up to date with one and outstanding on the other.

They are different pieces of the same exercise. The Corporation Tax computation is the working paper that starts with the company's accounting profit and adjusts it to arrive at taxable profit — for example by adding back expenses that are not allowable for tax purposes or deducting available allowances and reliefs. The CT600 is the return itself, where the resulting figures are reported to HMRC. In practice a return is usually filed alongside its computation, and the computation is what explains and supports the numbers shown on the form.

Possibly, and it depends on the company's own circumstances. There is no separate micro-entity version of the CT600 — the same Company Tax Return applies. Preparing simplified statutory accounts under a micro-entity framework does not by itself settle the company's Corporation Tax position, and it does not remove any obligation to file a Company Tax Return where HMRC has issued a notice to deliver one. Equally, not every micro-entity will owe Corporation Tax; whether any tax is payable depends on the company's taxable profit after adjustments, losses and reliefs.

The starting point is usually the profit shown in the company's accounts. From there, the Corporation Tax computation makes adjustments: disallowable expenditure such as certain entertaining costs is added back, capital allowances or other reliefs may be deducted, and timing differences can move income or deductions between periods. The result is taxable profit, which is then used to work out the Corporation Tax position for the period. Because the adjustments depend on the specific transactions the company has entered into, two companies with identical accounting profits can have quite different taxable profits.

No. Filing the return and paying the tax are separate obligations. The CT600 reports the company's position for the accounting period; payment of any Corporation Tax due is handled separately, and the timing for payment is set by HMRC and depends on factors such as the company's size and profits. A company can therefore have filed its return correctly and still have an outstanding payment obligation, or it may file a return showing no liability at all.

Filing a Company Tax Return after its due date can lead to penalties and interest from HMRC, and the consequences typically depend on how late the return is and on the company's history and circumstances. It is also worth remembering that a late return does not pause any separate Corporation Tax payment obligation, so the tax position can continue to develop independently of the filing. If a return is overdue or at risk of being late, the practical step is to bring the position up to date as quickly as possible and speak to HMRC or a professional adviser about the company's specific situation.
