CT600 Tax Return Filing in Houston – Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

CT600 Tax Return Filing is the process of preparing and submitting your company’s Corporation Tax position to HMRC in the form of a Company Tax Return. If you run a UK company from Houston, or manage a UK subsidiary from Texas, we can take the figures from your bookkeeping and accounts, review the tax adjustments that sit behind them, and prepare and file the CT600 on your behalf. It is important to be clear about what the CT600 is not. It is not your statutory accounts, which are prepared under the Companies Act and filed separately with Companies House, and it is not a Confirmation Statement, a VAT Return or a Self Assessment tax return. The CT600 is the Corporation Tax return itself, supported by the accounts and a tax computation. Our role is to make that process accurate, well documented and straightforward, so the numbers you report to HMRC and Companies House tell a consistent and defensible story.

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

What Is a Micro-Entity CT600? Understanding CT600 Tax Return Filing for Smaller Companies

There is no separate official form called a “micro-entity CT600”. Companies of every size use the same CT600 form to submit their Company Tax Return to HMRC when HMRC requires one; “micro-entity” simply describes the size of the company and the accounting framework it may use to prepare its statutory accounts. A micro-entity company can still have Corporation Tax obligations, and where HMRC requires a return, the company needs to complete CT600 Tax Return Filing covering the relevant accounting period. The CT600 itself is separate from the statutory accounts. The accounts are a Companies Act filing obligation, usually delivered to Companies House, whereas the CT600 is submitted to HMRC to report the company’s Corporation Tax position. In practice the two are connected, because the figures in the accounts are normally the starting point for the Corporation Tax calculation. That calculation may require adjustments, so the company’s taxable profit can differ from the accounting profit shown in the accounts. Typical reasons include disallowable expenditure, capital allowances, and timing differences. It is also worth separating two ideas that are often confused: filing a CT600 is not the same as paying Corporation Tax. Filing is the reporting obligation, while payment is a separate matter and depends on whether the company has a liability. Not every micro-entity will owe Corporation Tax, and whether a return is required at all depends on the company’s own circumstances and its taxable position.

Penalty levels are set by Companies House and may change. Separate HMRC penalties and interest apply to a late Corporation Tax return and unpaid tax. Check the updated guide here.

Take the Pressure Out of CT600 Tax Return Filing

Preparing a Company Tax Return is rarely the part of running a company that anyone looks forward to. The figures have to reconcile, the tax adjustments need to be thought through, and the supporting records have to hold together if HMRC asks questions later. Micro Entity Accounts works with UK companies and their Houston-based directors and advisers to make that process considerably less painful. We can prepare the CT600, build the Corporation Tax computation from your accounting records, review the adjustments needed to arrive at taxable profit, and handle the HMRC filing so the return is submitted in the right format with the right supporting information. If your bookkeeping is behind, we can help you get the records into shape first. Speak to us about your next accounting period and let us take the CT600 off your to-do list.

A CT600 is the form HMRC uses for a Company Tax Return. It is the document through which a company reports its Corporation Tax position for an accounting period, supported in most cases by a copy of the statutory accounts and a Corporation Tax computation. The CT600 captures details such as the company's income, deductions, tax adjustments and the resulting Corporation Tax liability, and it is filed with HMRC rather than with Companies House. CT600 Tax Return Filing therefore means preparing that return and submitting it to HMRC.

A CT600 is required by companies that fall within the Corporation Tax regime and that HMRC has notified, or that are otherwise required to deliver a Company Tax Return for a given period. That includes many small and micro-entity companies, not just large businesses. Whether a specific company must file for a specific period depends on its circumstances, its taxable position and any notice HMRC has issued. If you are unsure whether a return is due, it is worth checking with an accountant before assuming no filing is needed, because the obligation does not depend purely on whether tax turns out to be payable.

No, and this is one of the most common points of confusion. Statutory accounts are prepared under the Companies Act and filed with Companies House, while the CT600 is a tax return filed with HMRC. They serve different purposes, follow different rules and have separate filing arrangements. In practice they are closely linked, because the accounts usually provide the starting figures for the Corporation Tax calculation. However, filing your accounts at Companies House does not file your Company Tax Return, and filing your CT600 does not discharge your accounts filing obligation.

The computation is the working paper that shows how you get from accounting profit to taxable profit, setting out the adjustments required by tax rules. The CT600 is the return form on which the resulting figures are reported to HMRC. You generally need both: the computation supports the numbers entered on the CT600 and provides an audit trail if HMRC queries the return. Good CT600 Tax Return Filing involves preparing the computation carefully rather than simply transferring the profit figure from the accounts onto the form.

Not automatically, and not simply because it is a micro-entity. Micro-entity status relates to the size thresholds that allow a company to use a simplified accounting framework for its statutory accounts. Corporation Tax obligations are a separate matter, driven by whether the company is within the charge to Corporation Tax and whether HMRC requires a return. Many micro-entity companies do need to complete CT600 Tax Return Filing, while others may not owe any Corporation Tax. The right answer depends on the individual company's activity, income and circumstances.

The CT600 is normally submitted together with the statutory accounts for the same period and a tax computation, so in most cases the accounts form part of the package. What matters is understanding the direction of travel: the accounts for HMRC do not replace the accounts filed at Companies House, and the Companies House filing has its own separate arrangements. The best approach is to have the accounts finalised first so the CT600 is built on settled figures rather than estimates that later change.

Accounting profit is the figure produced by your bookkeeping and financial statements under the applicable accounting framework. Taxable profit starts from that figure and applies tax adjustments. Expenditure that is not deductible for tax purposes is added back, capital allowances may be claimed instead of depreciation, and certain income or expenditure may be treated differently for tax than for accounting. The result is the taxable profit on which Corporation Tax is calculated. The size and nature of those adjustments varies from company to company, which is why the computation matters as much as the return itself.

No. Filing is the reporting obligation, while payment is a separate obligation that only arises if the company has a Corporation Tax liability for the period. A company can file a CT600 showing no tax payable, and conversely a company can have tax to pay irrespective of the administrative mechanics of the return. Keeping the two distinct helps you manage cash flow and record-keeping sensibly, and it is one of the reasons we separate the reporting work from any discussion about payment obligations when supporting clients.

HMRC operates penalties and interest rules for late Company Tax Returns, and the outcome can vary depending on how late the return is and the company's history, so we do not offer a fixed description of what will happen in a given case. What is certain is that late filing creates avoidable administrative risk and unnecessary correspondence. The most practical protection is to keep your records organised and start the CT600 process early, so the return is prepared and reviewed well before it needs to be submitted.
