CT600 Tax Return Filing in Honiton: Prepare and Submit Your Company Tax Return to HMRC

Every UK company that needs to report its Corporation Tax position to HMRC does so through a Company Tax Return — the CT600. Professional CT600 Tax Return Filing takes the figures from your bookkeeping and accounts, reviews them for the tax adjustments that may be needed, prepares the supporting Corporation Tax computation, and submits the completed return to HMRC on your company’s behalf. It is important to understand that the CT600 goes to HMRC and is a completely separate filing obligation from the statutory accounts you submit to Companies House, from your Confirmation Statement, and from any VAT Returns your company completes. Even though those filings are built on the same underlying records, they serve different purposes and can show different figures. Working with a team in Honiton that handles CT600 Tax Return Filing means your accounting profit is looked at carefully, potential adjustments to taxable profit are considered, and the return is prepared accurately and clearly before it is filed. You get an explanation of what has been reported rather than a silent submission, and the convenience of having the preparation, calculation and HMRC filing handled in one place.

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

What Is a Micro-Entity CT600? How Smaller Companies Approach CT600 Tax Return Filing

It is worth clearing up a common misunderstanding: there is no separate HMRC form called a micro-entity CT600. There is one Company Tax Return — the CT600 — and it is used by companies of all sizes, from the smallest micro-entity to large corporate groups. What differs between companies is the level of detail reported elsewhere and the complexity of the figures that feed into the return. A company that qualifies as a micro-entity may prepare simpler statutory accounts under an accounting framework such as FRS 105, but that framework governs how the accounts are drawn up. It does not, on its own, determine the company’s Corporation Tax liability. If HMRC has issued a notice to deliver a Company Tax Return, the company is expected to file a CT600 for the relevant accounting period, and many small companies also file where they have Corporation Tax to report or reliefs and losses to claim. Not every micro-entity owes Corporation Tax — whether anything is payable depends on the company’s circumstances and its taxable position for the period. It is also important not to confuse the filing with the payment: submitting a CT600 and paying any Corporation Tax that is due are two separate obligations with their own dates and processes to check. Where CT600 Tax Return Filing in Honiton comes in is at the point where the figures are turned into tax reporting. The accounting profit shown in the statutory accounts is the starting point, but it is rarely the finishing point. Before taxable profit is arrived at, the Corporation Tax computation may need adjustments — for example adding back expenditure that is not allowable for tax, and deducting capital allowances and other reliefs in place of depreciation. Only once those adjustments are made can the taxable profit, and the resulting Corporation Tax position, be reported properly on the CT600.

Take the Admin Burden Out of CT600 Tax Return Filing in Honiton

Preparing a Company Tax Return is rarely just a case of copying numbers across. The accounting profit in your accounts has to be reviewed, the tax adjustments considered, a Corporation Tax computation built, and the finished CT600 submitted to HMRC — all while keeping the supporting records organised in case anything needs to be checked later. That is where Micro Entity Accounts can help. We handle CT600 preparation, Corporation Tax computation work, a review of the tax adjustments that may apply to your figures, and the HMRC filing itself, so the whole process from records to submission is dealt with for you and explained in plain English along the way. If your company tax return is approaching, or if you simply want to know where you stand, get in touch with our Honiton team and let us take it from here.

A CT600 is the form HMRC uses for a Company Tax Return. It reports a company's Corporation Tax position for an accounting period, including the company's income, allowable deductions, reliefs and the tax adjustments that have been made before taxable profit is arrived at. The return is submitted to HMRC, not to Companies House. Companies generally file a CT600 when HMRC has issued a notice to deliver a return, or where they have Corporation Tax to report, reliefs to claim or losses to carry forward, depending on their circumstances. In practice, the return is supported by a Corporation Tax computation that shows how the taxable profit figure was reached.

Yes, they are two separate filings with two different audiences. Statutory accounts are prepared under an applicable accounting framework, approved in the required way, and filed with Companies House. A CT600 is a tax return submitted to HMRC. A Confirmation Statement is a further, separate Companies House filing, and VAT Returns are separate again. The same bookkeeping often underpins all of them, but the figures can differ: the accounts show accounting profit, while the CT600 reports a taxable position that may include tax adjustments. Filing one does not satisfy the obligation to file the other.

There is no separate micro-entity version of the CT600 — the same form is used. A company that qualifies as a micro-entity may be able to prepare simpler statutory accounts, but if HMRC has issued a notice to deliver a Company Tax Return, the company is expected to file one for the period concerned. Some small companies also file where they have Corporation Tax to report or want to claim available reliefs or record losses. Having a nil or low Corporation Tax position does not automatically remove a filing obligation, and the accounting framework used for the accounts does not by itself decide the Corporation Tax outcome. It is worth checking your own position rather than assuming either way.

No, though they work together. The Corporation Tax computation is the calculation that starts with your accounting profit, applies the relevant tax adjustments, and arrives at the taxable profit and the Corporation Tax figure. The CT600 is the return that reports those results to HMRC. You need the computation to know what to put on the return, and HMRC expects the figures on the CT600 to be supported by a calculation. When we handle CT600 Tax Return Filing, we prepare the computation and the return as a single piece of work so the two are consistent.

Accounting profit is the starting point, but it is not necessarily the same as taxable profit. The computation may add back items of expenditure that are not allowable for tax purposes, and may deduct capital allowances rather than the depreciation charged in the accounts, along with any other reliefs the company can claim. Income treated differently for tax, trading losses and other adjustments can also affect the result. Because which adjustments apply depends on the company's own activities and records, the calculation is prepared on a case-by-case basis, and the resulting taxable profit is what the Corporation Tax figure on the CT600 is based on, subject to the rules in force for the period.

No — filing and payment are two separate obligations. The CT600 reports your company's Corporation Tax position to HMRC. If the return shows Corporation Tax is due, payment has to be made separately using HMRC's payment arrangements, and the date by which payment is due is not necessarily the same as the date by which the return must be filed. A company can file a return showing no Corporation Tax payable, and it is possible to have a filing obligation even where nothing is owed. It is always worth checking the specific dates that apply to your company's accounting period.

Yes. With your authorisation, an accountant or tax agent can prepare the Company Tax Return and submit it to HMRC on the company's behalf through HMRC's online services. The company itself remains responsible for the accuracy of what is filed. When we act for you, we gather your records, prepare the Corporation Tax computation, talk you through the figures and any adjustments, and then submit the CT600 once you are happy with it — which removes a good deal of the administrative pressure from the process.

HMRC can charge penalties and interest where a Company Tax Return is filed after the due date, and the amount can depend on how late the return is and whether the company has filed late before. HMRC publishes the current rules and figures in its own guidance. The practical point is that it is far better to act early. If you think a return may be outstanding or you are unsure of your position, we can help you review what is due and get the filing brought up to date, and we will explain the steps involved before anything is submitted.
