CT600 Tax Return Filing in Hinckley — Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

If your company needs to report its Corporation Tax position to HMRC, professional CT600 Tax Return Filing in Hinckley takes the guesswork out of the process. We help you pull together the figures from your accounting records, review the tax adjustments that turn accounting profit into taxable profit, prepare the Corporation Tax computation and complete the CT600 itself before submitting it to HMRC. It helps to remember that the CT600 is not the same thing as your statutory accounts: your accounts are prepared and filed separately with Companies House, while the CT600 is the Company Tax Return that goes to HMRC. Working with an experienced team means the numbers are cross-checked, the disclosures are handled properly and the filing is done through the right channel, so you can get on with running the business with clear, transparent pricing and straightforward support from start to finish.

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

What Is a Micro-Entity CT600 and How Does It Relate to CT600 Tax Return Filing?

There is no separate official form called a “micro-entity CT600”. The CT600 is the standard Company Tax Return used to report a company’s Corporation Tax position to HMRC, and it is used by companies of all sizes. What makes micro-entity companies different is mainly the accounting side: a company that qualifies as a micro-entity may prepare its statutory accounts under a simplified framework, which can mean shorter accounts and fewer disclosures. That accounting choice does not, by itself, determine the company’s Corporation Tax liability. Where HMRC has asked the company to deliver a Company Tax Return, the company still needs to complete a CT600 and it will still need to work out its taxable profit. The figures from the accounts are usually the starting point, but a Corporation Tax computation may require adjustments — for example to add back disallowable expenditure or to account for capital allowances instead of depreciation — so the taxable profit can differ from the accounting profit shown in the accounts. Whether any Corporation Tax is actually payable depends on the company’s circumstances and its taxable position, and filing the CT600 is a separate obligation from paying any Corporation Tax that is due. Small and micro companies in Hinckley often find that having the accounts and the CT600 prepared together, but treated as distinct pieces of work, keeps everything consistent and easier to follow.

A CT600 is the form — delivered electronically — that a UK company uses to submit its Company Tax Return to HMRC. It reports the company's Corporation Tax position for an accounting period, including the figures from which taxable profit and any Corporation Tax liability are worked out. The CT600 is a tax filing, not a set of accounts, and it sits alongside the company's other filing obligations rather than replacing them.

A company is normally required to file a Company Tax Return when HMRC has issued a notice to deliver one. That applies across the board, from large trading companies to small owner-managed businesses and dormant companies that have received a notice. Because the requirement depends on notices from HMRC and on the company's own circumstances, it is worth checking your position rather than assuming you are outside the scope. If you are unsure whether a return is expected for a particular period, we can review the position with you.

Yes — they are two separate filings with two separate bodies. Statutory accounts are prepared under an applicable accounting framework and filed with Companies House. The CT600 is the Company Tax Return submitted to HMRC to report the Corporation Tax position. They draw on the same underlying bookkeeping, which is why preparing them together often makes sense, but the formats, the audiences and the rules are not the same. Filing one does not satisfy the obligation to file the other.

Potentially, yes. A company that meets the micro-entity criteria for accounts purposes is still a company for tax purposes, and where HMRC has issued a notice to deliver a Company Tax Return, that return is completed using the standard CT600. Qualifying as a micro-entity affects how the statutory accounts are prepared; it does not create a separate or simplified tax return form. It also does not automatically mean Corporation Tax is payable — whether tax is due depends on the company's taxable position for the period.

The Corporation Tax computation is the working paper that starts with the accounting profit shown in the accounts and adjusts it to arrive at the taxable profit — for example by adding back disallowable expenses or replacing depreciation with capital allowances. The CT600 is the return form on which the results of that computation are reported to HMRC. In practice the computation supports and explains the figures entered on the CT600, so the two are prepared closely together even though they are not the same document.

Typically we need the company's accounting records and finalised or draft accounts for the period, details of income and expenditure, information about fixed assets and any purchases that may attract capital allowances, details of any other income such as interest, and confirmation of the accounting period being reported. It also helps to have earlier returns or computations to hand where available, so that brought-forward figures and any losses can be carried through correctly. The exact list depends on what the company does and how it is structured.

The starting point is usually the profit shown in the accounts, which is then adjusted through a series of tax adjustments. Common examples include adding back expenditure that is not allowable for tax, deducting allowable items that were not charged in the accounts, and swapping accounting depreciation for capital allowances. The result is the taxable profit on which any Corporation Tax liability is based. Because those adjustments depend on the specific transactions in the period, taxable profit and accounting profit frequently differ — sometimes significantly.

No. Filing the CT600 is the reporting obligation: it tells HMRC what the company's position is for the period. Paying Corporation Tax is a separate obligation, and the amount payable — if anything — is based on the liability calculated for that period. A company can file its return and have nothing to pay, or have a liability to settle. Both need to be dealt with properly, and the filing itself does not discharge any tax that is due.
