CT600 Tax Return Filing in Highbridge – Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

CT600 Tax Return Filing is the process of preparing and submitting a company’s Company Tax Return to HMRC so that its Corporation Tax position is reported accurately. If your company is based in Highbridge or the surrounding Somerset area, professional support with CT600 Tax Return Filing can help you pull together the figures from your accounting records, review the tax adjustments needed to arrive at taxable profit, and submit the completed return through the correct HMRC channel. It is worth being clear about what a CT600 is and is not: the CT600 is a tax return submitted to HMRC, and it is a separate obligation from the statutory accounts a company files with Companies House, from its Confirmation Statement, and from any VAT Returns it may submit. The figures in your accounts are usually the starting point for the Corporation Tax computation, but they often need adjusting before taxable profit and any Corporation Tax liability can be determined. Working with an experienced team can make the whole process clearer and less time-consuming, giving you confidence that your return reflects your company’s circumstances and that the supporting records are organised and easy to follow.

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

What Is a Micro-Entity CT600 and How Does It Relate to Your Company Tax Return?

There is no separate official “micro-entity CT600” form — the CT600 is the standard Company Tax Return used to report a company’s Corporation Tax position to HMRC, and it is used by companies of all sizes, including those that meet the micro-entity criteria. Where a micro-entity company has Corporation Tax obligations and is required to submit a Company Tax Return, it does so using the CT600 in the same way as any other company. This is separate from the statutory accounts a company prepares and files with Companies House, even though the two are connected: the accounting records and accounts prepared under the applicable framework, such as FRS 105 for many micro-entities, provide much of the information that feeds into the Corporation Tax calculation. It is important to understand that the accounting framework a company chooses does not by itself determine its Corporation Tax liability. Corporation Tax is calculated on taxable profit, and taxable profit is not always the same as the accounting profit shown in the accounts. The Corporation Tax computation may involve adjustments — for example, adding back disallowable expenditure or deducting items treated differently for tax purposes — before the taxable profit and any Corporation Tax liability are established. Equally, it does not follow that every micro-entity will owe Corporation Tax; whether Corporation Tax is payable depends on the company’s own circumstances and taxable position. Filing the CT600 and paying any Corporation Tax due are also two distinct obligations with their own timelines, so submitting the return does not, in itself, settle a Corporation Tax bill.

Let Us Handle the Detail of Your CT600 Tax Return Filing

Preparing a Company Tax Return is rarely just a case of copying figures across. Many directors find that the real complexity sits in the Corporation Tax computation — deciding which expenses are allowable, how capital items and other adjustments are treated, and how accounting profit converts into taxable profit. Add in the need to keep Corporation Tax records organised and to meet HMRC’s filing requirements, and it is easy for the whole exercise to become a distraction from running the business. Micro Entity Accounts can take that work off your desk, supporting you with CT600 preparation, the Corporation Tax computation, a review of the tax adjustments applied to your accounting figures, and submission of the Company Tax Return to HMRC. We keep the process clear and the communication straightforward, with transparent, fixed-fee options so you know where you stand. A CT600 is the form used to submit a Company Tax Return to HMRC. It reports a company's Corporation Tax position for an accounting period, setting out information such as the company's details, the period covered, the turnover and other figures drawn from the accounts, and the Corporation Tax calculation. The return is usually filed online, and it is submitted to HMRC rather than to Companies House. The CT600 is not a form reserved for micro-entities or small companies — it is the standard Company Tax Return used across the board, with the level of detail required depending on the company's circumstances.

Broadly, a company needs to file a Company Tax Return if HMRC has issued it with a notice to deliver a return, or if the company has Corporation Tax obligations for the period. Not every company will be in that position, and whether a particular company must file depends on its own circumstances — a dormant or inactive company, for example, may have different obligations from a trading one. If you are unsure whether your company needs to submit a CT600 for a given period, it is worth checking your position rather than assuming either way.

Yes, and the distinction matters. Statutory accounts are prepared for the company's members and filed at Companies House under company law. A CT600 is a Company Tax Return submitted to HMRC to report the company's Corporation Tax position. They are separate filing obligations with separate recipients, even though they draw on the same underlying accounting records. Preparing a set of accounts does not automatically produce a completed CT600, and filing accounts at Companies House does not discharge the Corporation Tax filing obligation.

A company that meets the micro-entity criteria and prepares accounts under a framework such as FRS 105 may still have Corporation Tax obligations, and where it is required to submit a Company Tax Return it does so using the CT600. There is no separate micro-entity version of the form. That said, needing to file and having Corporation Tax to pay are different questions — whether any Corporation Tax is actually payable depends on the company's taxable position and its own circumstances.

Taxable profit starts with the accounting profit shown in the company's accounts, but it is not usually the final figure. The Corporation Tax computation adjusts the accounting figures — for example, by adding back expenditure that is not allowable for tax purposes, or by treating certain items differently from the way they are presented in the accounts. The result is the taxable profit on which Corporation Tax, if any, is calculated. Because these adjustments depend on the nature of the company's income and costs, the computation is best prepared alongside the accounts rather than in isolation.

No. Filing the CT600 and paying any Corporation Tax due are separate obligations. The CT600 reports the company's Corporation Tax position and establishes the liability shown on the return, while payment is a distinct step made through HMRC's payment arrangements. Submitting the return on time does not mean the tax has been paid, and paying the tax does not remove the need to file the return. It helps to treat the two as separate tasks in your company's diary.

In practice we usually need the company's accounting records and finalised accounts for the period, details of income and expenditure, information on capital purchases and disposals, and any other items that may affect the Corporation Tax calculation — such as the treatment of director's loans or intercompany balances where relevant. We also need the company's registration details and the accounting period being reported. The exact list varies from company to company, so it is worth checking what applies to yours before the work begins.

HMRC expects Company Tax Returns to be filed by the relevant statutory deadline, and filing after that date can lead to penalties and interest charges. The amount and type of any charge depends on how late the return is and on the company's particular circumstances, so it is not something that can be reduced to a single fixed figure. If you think a deadline may be missed, or you have already missed one, it is sensible to look at the position promptly and to check HMRC's published guidance on what applies to your company.
