CT600 Tax Return Filing in Halewood: Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

CT600 Tax Return Filing in Halewood gives your company a clear, professionally managed route from your year-end accounting figures through to a Company Tax Return submitted to HMRC. We work through your accounting records, review the figures that feed into your Corporation Tax position, and prepare the CT600 so the information reported to HMRC is accurate, consistent and properly supported. It is worth being clear from the outset that a CT600 is not the same thing as your statutory accounts: the accounts are filed with Companies House as a separate obligation, while the Company Tax Return is submitted to HMRC and reports your Corporation Tax position. Professional support takes much of the administrative burden off your desk, helps keep your Corporation Tax records organised, and gives you a straightforward, convenient filing process with a knowledgeable person on hand to explain each step.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

What Is a 'Micro-Entity CT600'? Understanding the Company Tax Return for Smaller Companies

There is no separate official ‘micro-entity CT600’ form. The CT600 is the Company Tax Return used to report a company’s Corporation Tax position to HMRC, and the same return applies whether a company is large, small or a micro-entity. ‘Micro-entity’ describes how a company is classified for accounts purposes, and it may also shape which accounting framework and disclosures apply — but it does not create a different tax return or automatically determine what Corporation Tax is due. A micro-entity company can still have Corporation Tax obligations and, where HMRC requires a return, will need to submit a Company Tax Return. That filing is separate from the statutory accounts prepared for Companies House, although the accounting records and accounts often provide the starting point for the Corporation Tax calculation. Taxable profit is not always the same as the accounting profit shown in the accounts: the Corporation Tax computation may require adjustments, for example to add back expenditure that is not allowable for tax, to replace accounting depreciation with capital allowances, or to strip out income that is not taxable. Whether any Corporation Tax is actually payable depends on the company’s own circumstances and taxable position, and filing the CT600 is a separate obligation from paying any Corporation Tax that may be due.

A CT600 is the form used to submit a Company Tax Return to HMRC. It sets out a company's Corporation Tax position for an accounting period, including the figures that support the return, and it is submitted to HMRC rather than to Companies House. The CT600 is normally supported by a Corporation Tax computation, which shows how the company's accounting profit has been adjusted to arrive at its taxable profit and how any Corporation Tax liability has been calculated. It is important to see the CT600 as a tax filing rather than a set of accounts: the accounts and the tax return are prepared for different purposes and filed with different bodies.

A company generally needs to file a Company Tax Return when HMRC has issued a notice to deliver one, and that can apply to a company trading in Halewood or anywhere else in the UK. Whether a specific company has to file depends on its own circumstances — its trading activity, its Corporation Tax position and any correspondence from HMRC. Some companies that are not trading, or that have no Corporation Tax to pay, may still be required to submit a return, while others may not. Because the position varies from company to company, it is worth checking your own circumstances and any notices you have received from HMRC rather than assuming a general rule applies.

Yes — these are two separate obligations. Statutory accounts are the financial statements a company prepares and files with Companies House, and a Confirmation Statement is a further, separate Companies House filing again. A CT600 is a Company Tax Return submitted to HMRC that reports the company's Corporation Tax position. Although both draw on the same underlying bookkeeping, they serve different purposes and are filed with different authorities. The figures used for Corporation Tax can also differ from those in the accounts once tax adjustments have been made, so the two documents are related but should not be treated as interchangeable.

They are related but not the same thing. The Corporation Tax computation is the working paper that starts with the company's accounting profit and applies the necessary tax adjustments to arrive at the taxable profit and the resulting Corporation Tax liability. The CT600 is the return that reports that position to HMRC. In practice, the computation is usually prepared first so the figures reported on the CT600 are properly supported, and it is often submitted alongside the return. Preparing one without the other can leave gaps in the tax position, particularly where adjustments or reliefs need to be explained.

It can do, yes. Being classed as a micro-entity affects how a company's accounts are prepared and filed, but it does not remove the possibility of a Corporation Tax filing obligation. If HMRC requires a return from the company, a Company Tax Return will need to be submitted, whatever the company's size classification. That said, not every micro-entity will owe Corporation Tax — whether tax is payable depends on the company's own taxable position and circumstances. Filing the return and paying any tax due are also separate matters, with their own timelines, so one does not automatically follow the other.

Accounting profit is the figure shown in the company's accounts, calculated under the relevant accounting framework. Taxable profit is the figure used for Corporation Tax, and the two can differ. The Corporation Tax computation starts with the accounting profit and applies adjustments — for example adding back expenditure that is not allowable for tax purposes, replacing accounting depreciation with capital allowances, excluding income that is not taxable, or reflecting items that fall into a different period for tax. The exact adjustments depend on the company's transactions and circumstances, which is why the computation is prepared carefully rather than assumed from the accounts alone. A company's choice of accounting framework does not by itself determine its Corporation Tax liability.

No. Submitting a Company Tax Return to HMRC and paying any Corporation Tax that is due are two distinct obligations, each with its own timeline. It is possible for Corporation Tax to become payable before the CT600 is filed, so a company should not assume that sending in the return settles the tax. Equally, a company may file a return showing no Corporation Tax payable because of its particular circumstances. Keeping the return and the payment position separate in your record-keeping helps avoid confusion, and it is worth planning both together rather than dealing with them one at a time.

If a Company Tax Return reaches HMRC after the deadline that applies to the company, HMRC may charge a penalty, and interest can also apply to any Corporation Tax paid late. The size of a penalty generally depends on how late the return is and on the company's filing history, so the outcome is not the same in every case. The most practical step is to file as soon as the figures are ready, even if some details still need confirming, and to speak to HMRC or a professional adviser if you know a deadline is going to be a problem. Getting the return prepared early is usually the simplest way to avoid unnecessary stress.
