CT600 Tax Return Filing in Great Missenden — Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

CT600 Tax Return Filing is the process of preparing and submitting a company’s Corporation Tax Return to HMRC, and it is one of the core annual obligations for most UK limited companies. The CT600 reports your company’s income, expenses, profits and tax position for the accounting period, and it is supported by a Corporation Tax computation that translates your accounting figures into taxable profit. Professional CT600 Tax Return Filing in Great Missenden helps directors and business owners approach that process with clarity: your bookkeeping and accounts are reviewed, the necessary tax adjustments are considered, the Corporation Tax computation is prepared, and the completed Company Tax Return is filed with HMRC on your behalf. It is important to understand that the CT600 is not the same as statutory accounts filed with Companies House, nor is it a Confirmation Statement, a VAT Return or a Self Assessment tax return. Those are separate filings with different purposes and different recipients. A good CT600 Tax Return Filing service joins the dots between your accounts and your tax reporting, so you can see how the figures in your accounts relate to the figures reported to HMRC, and so the filing is accurate, well supported and submitted on time. Pricing is usually discussed clearly and in advance, with fixed-fee options available depending on the complexity of your company’s affairs.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

What Is a CT600, and How Does It Apply to a Micro-Entity Company?

There is no separate official “micro-entity CT600” form. A CT600 is simply the Company Tax Return that a UK company uses to report its Corporation Tax position to HMRC, and the same form is used by companies of all sizes, including those that qualify as micro-entities under the companies legislation. What differs for a micro-entity is generally the accounting framework it applies and the level of detail in its statutory accounts, rather than the existence of a different tax return. A micro-entity company may still have Corporation Tax obligations, and where HMRC requires one, it needs to submit a Company Tax Return (CT600) covering the relevant accounting period. The CT600 is separate from the statutory accounts, which are filed with Companies House, and it is also separate from paying any Corporation Tax that is due — filing the return and settling the tax are two distinct obligations. The company’s accounting records, and the accounts prepared from them, normally form the starting point for the Corporation Tax calculation, but the figures in the accounts are not automatically the figures HMRC taxes. Taxable profit can differ from accounting profit because the Corporation Tax computation may require adjustments, for example for disallowable expenses, capital allowances or other tax-specific treatments. A micro-entity’s simplified accounts may also give less detail than HMRC expects in support of the return, which is one reason many directors choose to have both the accounts and the CT600 prepared together. Whether any Corporation Tax is actually payable depends on the company’s individual circumstances and its taxable position, not on its size or accounting framework.

Let Us Handle Your CT600 Tax Return Filing in Great Missenden

Preparing a Company Tax Return can feel like a jigsaw: the accounting profit in your accounts has to be adjusted for tax purposes, the Corporation Tax computation has to tie back to your records, and the CT600 has to be filed with HMRC alongside everything else your company is required to submit. It is easy for records to become disorganised, for adjustments to be missed, or for the return to be rushed at the last minute. Micro Entity Accounts helps companies in Great Missenden and across the UK with CT600 preparation, Corporation Tax computations, tax adjustment reviews and HMRC filing, working from your bookkeeping and accounts so the figures reported are consistent and properly supported. We are equally happy to prepare your statutory accounts where you need them, keeping the two exercises aligned without confusing one obligation with the other. If you would like your next CT600 Tax Return Filing handled accurately and with clear, transparent pricing, get in touch with Micro Entity Accounts to discuss your company’s position.

A CT600 is the form used to submit a Company Tax Return to HMRC. It sets out a company's income, allowable deductions and profits for an accounting period, together with the resulting Corporation Tax position. In practice, a CT600 is prepared alongside a Corporation Tax computation that shows how the accounting figures in the company's accounts have been adjusted to arrive at taxable profit, and it is submitted to HMRC rather than to Companies House.

Whether a company needs to file a CT600 depends on its circumstances and on what HMRC requires for the period in question. Most active UK limited companies that are within the charge to Corporation Tax will need to submit a Company Tax Return, and HMRC will normally issue a notice requiring one. Dormant or newly incorporated companies may not always have to file, so it is worth checking your position rather than assuming either way. If a notice has been issued, the return generally has to be filed even if there is no tax to pay.

No. Statutory accounts and a CT600 are two separate filings with two different recipients. Statutory accounts are prepared under the applicable accounting framework and filed at Companies House, where they become part of the public record. A CT600 is a Company Tax Return submitted to HMRC for Corporation Tax purposes. The accounts often provide the starting figures for the tax return, but the return itself contains a tax computation and additional information that does not appear in the Companies House filing.

Yes, they are related but distinct. The Corporation Tax computation is the working that starts from the company's accounting profit and makes the adjustments needed to arrive at taxable profit — for example adding back disallowable expenditure, deducting allowable capital allowances, or dealing with other tax-specific items. The CT600 is the return form on which the resulting figures are reported to HMRC. In practice the two are prepared together, because the CT600 needs the computation to support the figures it contains.

There is no separate micro-entity version of the CT600, so a company that qualifies as a micro-entity follows the same general framework as any other company. If the company is within the charge to Corporation Tax and HMRC requires a Company Tax Return, then a CT600 will need to be filed for the relevant period. Being a micro-entity affects the accounting framework and the level of detail in your statutory accounts; it does not by itself remove a Corporation Tax filing obligation, nor does it automatically determine whether any Corporation Tax is payable.

A CT600 is normally prepared from a combination of your accounting records, your statutory accounts, and supporting detail such as income and expense breakdowns, fixed asset additions and disposals, and details of any other income or deductions relevant to the period. Information about the company itself, the accounting period covered, and any reliefs or adjustments being claimed is also required. The cleaner and more complete your bookkeeping, the more straightforward the preparation tends to be, which is why many companies have their accounts and their CT600 prepared together.

Taxable profit starts from the company's accounting profit for the period and is then adjusted for tax purposes. Common adjustments include adding back expenditure that is not allowable for Corporation Tax, deducting capital allowances in place of depreciation, and dealing with income or costs that are treated differently for tax than for accounting. The result is the taxable profit on which the Corporation Tax liability is based. Because the adjustments depend on the company's specific transactions, taxable profit frequently differs from the profit shown in the accounts.

No — filing and payment are separate obligations. Submitting a CT600 reports the company's position to HMRC, while paying Corporation Tax is a separate transaction that settles any liability arising from the period. A company can file its return and still owe tax, or file a return showing no liability and have nothing to pay. It is worth keeping both in view, along with the deadlines that apply to each, so that reporting and payment are both dealt with properly.
