CT600 Tax Return Filing in Carmarthen: Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

CT600 Tax Return Filing in Carmarthen is about making sure your company’s Corporation Tax position is worked out properly and reported to HMRC through the Company Tax Return. We help you pull together the figures from your accounting records, review the tax adjustments that may be needed to turn accounting profit into taxable profit, and submit the CT600 to HMRC on time. It is important to be clear that a CT600 is not the same as the statutory accounts you file with Companies House — they are separate obligations with separate purposes. Statutory accounts report your company’s financial position to Companies House, while the CT600 reports the company’s Corporation Tax position to HMRC. If you would rather focus on running your business in Carmarthen and the wider West Wales area than on Corporation Tax calculations and HMRC filing, we can handle the preparation and filing for you with clear communication at each stage and transparent, fixed-fee pricing.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

Is There Such a Thing as a Micro-Entity CT600? Understanding CT600 Filing for Small Companies

There is no separate official “micro-entity CT600” form. A CT600 is simply the Company Tax Return that a company submits to HMRC to report its Corporation Tax position, and it is the same form regardless of the size or accounting framework of the company completing it. What differs is the level of detail and the way the supporting figures are prepared. Micro-entity companies — those that qualify under the relevant company size thresholds and often prepare accounts under a simplified regime — may still have Corporation Tax obligations, and where HMRC requires a Company Tax Return, a CT600 will normally need to be filed. It is worth separating the different pieces: your statutory accounts (which may be prepared under a micro-entity framework and filed with Companies House) and your Corporation Tax filing (which goes to HMRC) are distinct requirements, even though they draw on the same underlying bookkeeping. Your accounting profit and your taxable profit are also not automatically the same figure. The tax computation may need adjustments — for example for disallowable expenditure, capital allowances or other tax-specific treatments — before the taxable profit and any Corporation Tax liability can be established. Whether Corporation Tax is actually payable depends on the company’s own circumstances and taxable position. Equally, filing the CT600 and paying any Corporation Tax due are two separate obligations: submitting the return does not itself settle a tax bill, and the payment process runs separately.

A CT600 is the Company Tax Return that a company submits to HMRC. It reports the company's Corporation Tax position for an accounting period, showing the figures on which the tax position is based, such as turnover, allowable expenses and the resulting taxable profit, along with any Corporation Tax due and details of reliefs or allowances that apply. It is an HMRC document, not a Companies House document, and it is normally submitted online.

A company may be required to file a Company Tax Return when HMRC has issued a notice to deliver one, and there are other circumstances in which a return is expected. Not every company will be in that position — a dormant or otherwise inactive company may have different obligations, and there are limited situations where a company may not need to file. Because the requirement depends on the company's own circumstances and on what HMRC has told the company, it is worth checking your specific position rather than assuming one way or the other. If you are unsure whether a CT600 is due for your company, we can review the position and confirm the next step.

Yes, and this is one of the most common misunderstandings. Statutory accounts are prepared under an accounting framework and filed with Companies House, and they report your company's financial performance and position. The CT600 is a tax return filed with HMRC that reports the Corporation Tax position. They use the same underlying accounting records, but they serve different purposes, go to different bodies, and can contain different figures. Preparing and filing one does not automatically take care of the other, so both obligations need to be tracked separately.

They are closely connected but they are not the same thing. The Corporation Tax computation is the working paper that starts from the company's accounting profit and makes the necessary tax adjustments to arrive at taxable profit and the resulting Corporation Tax liability. The CT600 is the return that reports the outcome of that work to HMRC. In practice you need the computation first, because the figures on the CT600 should be built on that calculation rather than taken straight from the accounts.

A micro-entity company can still have Corporation Tax obligations, and where HMRC requires a Company Tax Return, a CT600 will normally need to be filed. The absence of a separate micro-entity tax form is worth repeating: the CT600 is the same return for all companies, and what changes is the volume and complexity of the supporting information. Preparing accounts under a micro-entity regime does not by itself settle your tax position or determine what Corporation Tax is payable, and no accounting framework automatically decides the liability. The company's own trading activity, its accounting period and its taxable position all feed into whether Corporation Tax is due.

The starting point is usually the accounting profit shown in the company's accounts, but that figure is not automatically the taxable figure. The tax computation will normally add back items that are not allowable for tax purposes, deduct items that are treated differently for tax, and apply capital allowances and any other available reliefs. This can move the figure in either direction. Because the adjustments depend on your particular transactions and circumstances, the taxable profit has to be worked out case by case rather than inferred from the accounts alone.

No — they are separate obligations. Filing the CT600 tells HMRC what the company's position is and reports the Corporation Tax that is due. Paying Corporation Tax is a separate process with its own deadline, and submitting the return does not discharge any amount owed. It is quite possible to have filed the return on time and still be dealing with a payment, or to have no Corporation Tax payable at all while still needing to report the position accurately.

The main ingredients are the company's accounting records and draft accounts for the relevant accounting period, details of income and allowable expenditure, a breakdown of fixed assets and any capital expenditure, and information about other income, reliefs or allowances that may apply. Prior year figures and the previous return are also helpful for consistency. Once everything is to hand, we can work through the Corporation Tax computation, review the adjustments, prepare the CT600 and submit it to HMRC on the company's behalf. Starting early usually makes the process far smoother.
