CT600 Tax Return Filing in Ashington: Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

Filing a CT600 Tax Return can feel like a lot to manage on top of running a company, especially when the figures in your accounts need adjusting before your taxable profit is clear. Our CT600 Tax Return Filing service in Ashington helps you prepare an accurate Company Tax Return, work through the Corporation Tax computation and submit your CT600 to HMRC with confidence. We review your accounting records, identify the adjustments typically needed for tax purposes, and make sure the figures reported to HMRC are supported by the information behind them. The CT600 is a separate filing from the statutory accounts you send to Companies House, and it is easy to confuse the two — we can look after both, or just the Corporation Tax side if your accounts are already prepared. What you get is a clear explanation of your Corporation Tax position, a properly prepared return and a straightforward filing process, without the jargon.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

What Is a Micro-Entity CT600? Corporation Tax Filing for Small and Micro Companies

Micro-entity is an accounting term, not a type of tax return. There is no separate official ‘micro-entity CT600’ form — qualifying as a micro-entity affects how a company prepares its statutory accounts, but if HMRC has issued a notice to deliver a Company Tax Return, the company uses the same CT600 as any other company to report its Corporation Tax position. The accounting records and accounts prepared under a framework such as FRS 105 are usually the starting point for the Corporation Tax calculation, but they do not determine the tax liability on their own. Corporation Tax is calculated on taxable profit, which can differ from the accounting profit shown in the accounts because the computation may require adjustments — adding back items that are not allowable for tax, treating capital expenditure through capital allowances instead of depreciation, and reflecting any reliefs or other adjustments that apply. It is also worth separating filing from payment: submitting the CT600 to HMRC reports the company’s Corporation Tax position and tells HMRC what is due, while paying any Corporation Tax is a separate obligation with its own dates. Not every micro-entity will owe Corporation Tax — that depends on the company’s own circumstances and taxable position, and a company may still need to file a return even where no tax is payable.

A CT600 is the form HMRC uses for a Company Tax Return. It reports a company's Corporation Tax position for an accounting period — the income and gains, allowable deductions, the resulting taxable profit and the Corporation Tax due or repayable — along with other information HMRC asks for. It is submitted to HMRC rather than Companies House, normally online through HMRC's Corporation Tax service or commercial filing software. In practice, the CT600 summarises figures that come from a Corporation Tax computation built on the company's accounts.

Most UK limited companies, and some other organisations that are liable to Corporation Tax, need to file a Company Tax Return when HMRC has issued a notice to deliver one. That notice can be issued even for a dormant period or a period where the company made a loss, so it is not safe to assume nothing needs to be filed because no tax is expected to be payable. Whether a return is required depends on the company's own circumstances, its Corporation Tax position and what HMRC has asked for, so it is worth checking rather than guessing.

No — they are two separate filings with two separate bodies. Statutory accounts are prepared under an accounting framework, such as FRS 105 or FRS 102, and are filed with Companies House. A CT600 is a Company Tax Return filed with HMRC and deals with Corporation Tax. The two are connected because the accounts are usually the starting point for the tax computation, but completing one does not satisfy the other, and the figures reported to HMRC may differ from the accounting figures once tax adjustments are made.

They work together, but they are not the same document. The Corporation Tax computation is the calculation that starts with your accounting profit, adds back items that are not allowable for tax, applies reliefs and allowances such as capital allowances, and arrives at taxable profit and the Corporation Tax figure. The CT600 is the return that reports those results to HMRC. You need the computation to complete the CT600 accurately, and keeping it on file also shows how the reported figures were arrived at.

Qualifying as a micro-entity affects how the statutory accounts are prepared, not which tax return is used. If HMRC has asked the company to deliver a Company Tax Return, it files the same CT600 as any other company. Whether Corporation Tax is actually payable depends on the company's taxable position — a micro-entity with losses, no taxable profit or relevant reliefs may owe nothing, but a return can still be required. Accounts preparation and Corporation Tax filing are related but separate processes, and the accounting framework used does not by itself determine the tax liability.

Taxable profit starts with the accounting profit shown in the accounts, but the calculation rarely stops there. The Corporation Tax computation adjusts for items that are not allowable for tax, removes depreciation and deals with capital expenditure through capital allowances instead, and takes account of other reliefs and adjustments that apply to the period. The end result is taxable profit, which can be higher or lower than the accounting profit. Corporation Tax is then calculated on that taxable figure using the rates and rules that apply to the accounting period.

No, the two are separate obligations. Filing the CT600 is how the company reports its Corporation Tax position and tells HMRC what is due; paying any Corporation Tax is a separate step that follows its own timetable. A company can submit its return and owe nothing, or owe tax that needs to be paid by the relevant payment date. Keeping filing and payment distinct in your records helps you see clearly what has been reported to HMRC and what has actually been paid.

If a Company Tax Return is not filed by its deadline, HMRC can charge penalties, and interest or further penalties may also apply to any unpaid tax. HMRC's penalties generally increase the longer the return remains outstanding, and where no return is filed HMRC can issue a determination of the tax it believes is due. The practical answer is to file as soon as you can, or contact HMRC if there is a genuine reason for the delay — preparing the return early is by far the simplest way to avoid the problem.
