CT600 Tax Return Filing in Ascot – Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

Every UK company that needs to report a Corporation Tax position has to send a Company Tax Return — the CT600 — to HMRC. Professional CT600 Tax Return Filing in Ascot takes the weight off that process: we work through your accounting records, review the figures for the tax adjustments that apply, prepare a clear Corporation Tax computation, and file the CT600 with HMRC on your company’s behalf. It is worth being clear from the outset that the CT600 is a separate filing from the statutory accounts you send to Companies House, even though both are built on the same underlying records. Accounts preparation and Corporation Tax filing are related but distinct jobs, and treating them as one can lead to gaps. Our approach is built on accuracy, plainly explained workings and a straightforward process that saves you time and keeps your Company Tax Return filing on a sound footing.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

What Is a Micro-Entity CT600 and How Does It Fit Into CT600 Tax Return Filing?

There is no separate official “micro-entity CT600” form. A company that qualifies as a micro-entity still reports its Corporation Tax position to HMRC using the same CT600 as any other company — what changes is how its accounts are prepared, not which tax return is filed. A micro-entity may be able to prepare simpler statutory accounts, often under the FRS 105 framework, but the choice of accounting framework does not by itself determine what Corporation Tax is due. Where HMRC requires a Company Tax Return, the company needs to submit a CT600, supported by a Corporation Tax computation that starts with the accounting profit shown in the accounts and adjusts it for items treated differently for tax purposes — for example disallowable expenditure, capital allowances, or income that is not taxable. The end result is the taxable profit, which is then used to work out the Corporation Tax liability, if there is one. That distinction matters: accounting profit and taxable profit are frequently not the same figure, and whether any Corporation Tax is actually payable depends entirely on the company’s own circumstances and taxable position. It is also worth separating two obligations that are often confused — filing the CT600 with HMRC and paying any Corporation Tax that falls due are separate steps with their own timings, so submitting the return does not automatically settle the tax.

A CT600 is the formal name for a Company Tax Return. It is the return a UK company submits to HMRC to report its Corporation Tax position for an accounting period — the income, profits and gains it needs to account for, along with the resulting Corporation Tax due or repayable. The CT600 is normally supported by a Corporation Tax computation and, in most cases, by a copy of the statutory accounts for the same period. It is an HMRC document, not a Companies House document.

A company generally needs to file a Company Tax Return where HMRC has issued a notice to deliver one, or where the company has taxable profits, gains or other chargeable amounts to report. Some companies with no Corporation Tax to pay may still be required to submit a return, depending on their circumstances and on whether HMRC has asked for one. Because the position varies from company to company, it is worth checking your specific obligation rather than assuming a dormant or loss-making year means no filing is needed.

Yes — they are two separate filings with two separate bodies. The CT600 goes to HMRC and reports the company's Corporation Tax position. The statutory accounts go to Companies House and present the company's financial statements for the period. The accounts figures usually feed into the Corporation Tax computation, but the two documents serve different purposes, follow different rules in places, and are submitted independently. There are also other obligations, such as the Confirmation Statement and any VAT Returns, that sit entirely outside the CT600 process.

No. The Corporation Tax computation is the working that starts with the company's accounting profit and adjusts it to arrive at the taxable profit — adding back disallowable items, deducting allowances and reliefs where they apply, and dealing with income or expenditure that is treated differently for tax. The CT600 is the return form on which the resulting figures are reported to HMRC. You need the computation to complete the CT600 accurately, but they are not the same document.

Possibly. Being a micro-entity affects how the company's statutory accounts may be prepared — it does not exempt a company from Corporation Tax reporting. If the company has taxable profits, gains or other chargeable amounts, or if HMRC has issued a notice requiring a return, a CT600 will normally be needed. Whether Corporation Tax is actually payable depends on the company's own taxable position, and filing the CT600 is a separate step from paying any tax that is due.

The starting point is usually the profit shown in the company's accounts. From there, the Corporation Tax computation adjusts for items that are treated differently for tax: expenditure that is not allowable for tax purposes is added back, capital allowances may replace the depreciation charged in the accounts, and income that is not taxable or reliefs that are available are dealt with in the computation. The result is the taxable profit, which is then used to calculate the Corporation Tax liability. Because the adjustments depend on the company's transactions, the taxable figure can differ meaningfully from the accounting profit.

No — they are two separate obligations. Filing the CT600 is about reporting the company's position to HMRC by the filing date that applies to the company. Paying Corporation Tax is about settling the liability, and the payment date can differ from the filing date. Submitting an accurate return does not automatically discharge the tax, and paying the tax does not remove the need to file. It is sensible to plan for both and keep records that support the figures in the return.

If a Company Tax Return is filed after the applicable filing date, HMRC may charge penalties and may add interest or late payment charges on any Corporation Tax that remains unpaid. The amount involved depends on how late the return is, whether tax is outstanding, and the company's filing history, so the position is always specific to the circumstances rather than a single fixed figure. Beyond the cost, late filing tends to create knock-on admin — chasing correspondence, amending estimates and reconstructing records — which is why keeping the CT600 Tax Return Filing on schedule is usually the simpler route.
