I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. I'm very pleased with the service I've received and truly appreciate his support. If you need help with your accounts or taxes, I would highly recommend Imran.

What Annual Accounts Filing Involves, From Preparation to Companies House

Annual Accounts Filing generally starts with gathering the financial information for your accounting period and preparing a set of annual accounts that reflects your company’s financial position and performance. Those accounts are then reviewed for accuracy and consistency with the accounting framework that applies to your company. Where required, the finalised accounts are submitted to Companies House as part of your company’s annual accounts filing responsibilities.

Which UK Limited Companies Need Annual Accounts Filing?

Annual accounts filing responsibilities generally apply to UK registered limited companies, including micro-entities, dormant companies, one-director companies and other eligible small companies. The type of accounts prepared and the information filed can differ depending on company size, the accounting period, dormant status, the applicable accounting framework and any available exemptions. That is why the requirements are assessed for each company rather than assumed to be identical.

Annual accounts are the statutory accounts a company prepares for a particular accounting period. They provide information about the company's financial position and performance over that period and are prepared in line with the accounting framework that applies to the company. For many UK limited companies, those accounts then need to be filed with Companies House, subject to the company's circumstances and any applicable exemptions.

UK registered limited companies generally have annual accounts filing responsibilities with Companies House, although the format and level of detail can vary. Micro-entities, dormant companies, one-director companies and other eligible small limited companies may all have filing obligations, but the exact requirements depend on factors such as company size, accounting period, dormant status and available exemptions. It is worth checking what applies to your specific company rather than assuming every company files the same type of accounts.

The deadline depends on the company's circumstances and its accounting reference period, so there is no single date that applies to every company. Private companies generally have a Companies House filing deadline calculated by reference to their accounting reference period, but the exact date should be confirmed for the individual company. If accounts are filed after the relevant deadline, Companies House can impose late filing penalties, so it is sensible to plan ahead and keep track of your company's own due date.

Annual accounts for a UK limited company are filed with Companies House. This is separate from anything submitted to HMRC. Information from the accounts may be used when preparing the company's Corporation Tax computation and CT600, but filing annual accounts with Companies House does not itself constitute filing a Company Tax Return with HMRC, and the two have their own deadlines and requirements.

Depending on the company's size, applicable accounting framework and current reporting requirements, annual accounts may include a balance sheet, a profit and loss account, notes to the accounts and other required statements or information. Smaller companies often file less detailed accounts than larger ones, and the information made publicly available can vary too. The aim is for the accounts to present the company's position fairly under the framework that applies to it.

No. Annual accounts are the statutory accounts filed with Companies House. A CT600 is a Company Tax Return submitted to HMRC, and a confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing that confirms certain company details. These are distinct obligations with their own requirements, even though they may all form part of keeping a company up to date.

Dormant companies may still have annual accounts filing responsibilities with Companies House. Being dormant for Corporation Tax purposes does not automatically mean a company is exempt from filing annual accounts with Companies House, and the position depends on the company's circumstances and any applicable exemptions. Directors remain responsible for making sure the correct filing is made on time.

A company may qualify for the micro-entities regime and, where the regime applies and is chosen, may prepare accounts using FRS 105. For accounting periods beginning on or after 6 April 2025, a company generally needs to meet at least two of three size conditions: turnover of no more than £1 million, balance sheet total of no more than £500,000, and an average of no more than 10 employees, subject to applicable rules and exclusions. Meeting these figures does not automatically mean every company qualifies, so eligibility should always be considered properly.
