I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. I'm very pleased with the service I've received and truly appreciate his support. If you need help with your accounts or taxes, I would highly recommend Imran.

Preparing, reviewing and filing your annual accounts with Companies House

Annual Accounts Filing normally involves bringing together your company’s financial information for the accounting period, preparing a balance sheet and any other statements or notes that apply, and then submitting the accounts to Companies House. The exact content depends on your company’s size, whether it is dormant, and the accounting framework it uses, such as FRS 105 for eligible micro-entities. We help organise the figures, review the draft accounts with you, and complete the Companies House accounts filing so the process is straightforward from start to finish.

Annual accounts are the financial statements a company prepares for a specific accounting period. They typically show information about the company's financial position and performance, such as a balance sheet, and may also include a profit and loss account, notes and other statements depending on the company's size and the accounting framework it applies. They are prepared under the reporting rules relevant to that company, which for many micro-entities may mean FRS 105 where the regime applies and is chosen.

Most UK limited companies have an annual accounts filing responsibility with Companies House, subject to their individual circumstances and any exemptions that apply. This can include micro-entities, dormant companies, one-director companies and other eligible small limited companies. The format and level of detail filed are not identical for every company, so it is worth checking what applies to your company rather than assuming all companies file the same set of accounts.

The deadline depends on your company's circumstances and accounting period. Private companies generally have a Companies House filing deadline based on their accounting reference period, but the exact date should always be confirmed for your individual company. It is also worth remembering that a company's first set of accounts may follow a different pattern to later years, so checking your specific filing date is safer than relying on a general rule.

Annual accounts are filed with Companies House as part of the company's statutory filing obligations. This is a separate process from filing a Company Tax Return with HMRC, even though the two can be linked in practice. Information from the accounts may be used when preparing the company's Corporation Tax computation and CT600, but submitting accounts to Companies House is not the same as submitting a tax return to HMRC.

Depending on the company's size and the framework used, annual accounts may include a balance sheet, a profit and loss account, notes to the accounts, and other statements or information required by the applicable reporting rules. Smaller companies and micro-entities often file less detail than larger companies, and dormant companies may file a simpler set of accounts. The information that is included and made publicly available can therefore vary from one company to another.

No. Annual accounts filed with Companies House are separate from a Corporation Tax Return (CT600) submitted to HMRC, and separate again from the confirmation statement, which confirms company details such as officers and registered office. Filing annual accounts does not itself constitute filing a Company Tax Return, and it does not replace the confirmation statement, VAT returns, payroll obligations or other compliance tasks.

Dormant companies may still have annual accounts filing responsibilities with Companies House, so being dormant for Corporation Tax purposes does not automatically remove that obligation. In some cases a dormant company may qualify to file a simpler set of accounts, but eligibility depends on its circumstances and the relevant rules. We can review your position and help with dormant accounts filing where it applies.

Yes, an accountant or filing service can prepare and submit the accounts on the company's behalf, which often makes the process easier to manage. The directors remain responsible for ensuring the accounts are properly prepared and filed on time, and for confirming that the information is accurate. Our role is to support with annual accounts preparation, accounts review and the Companies House filing itself, so you stay in control while the admin is handled.

If accounts are filed after the relevant Companies House deadline, Companies House can impose late filing penalties. These penalties relate to the late filing of annual accounts with Companies House and are separate from any HMRC deadlines or charges connected with Corporation Tax. The best approach is to keep track of your filing date and start the preparation process early, particularly if your records need tidying up first.

Companies that qualify as micro-entities may be able to prepare and file accounts under the micro-entities regime, often using FRS 105 where the regime is applicable and chosen. For accounting periods beginning on or after 6 April 2025, a company generally needs to meet at least two of three conditions: turnover of no more than £1 million, a balance sheet total of no more than £500,000, and an average of no more than 10 employees, subject to the relevant rules and exclusions. Meeting those figures does not automatically confirm eligibility, so each company's position should be checked.
