I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts filed with Companies House for a company that has been dormant for Companies House purposes during the accounting period. In its simplest form, dormant accounts confirm that the company had no significant accounting transactions in the period. They are not a way of skipping accounts altogether, and they do not replace a confirmation statement or a Corporation Tax Return. The exact content and format of the accounts depend on the company's circumstances and the applicable Companies House rules at the time of filing.
Broadly speaking, a company is treated as dormant for Companies House purposes when it has had no significant accounting transactions during the accounting period. Transactions that are purely administrative, or that arise for reasons outside the ordinary business, are usually looked at differently from genuine trading income and expenditure. There is no automatic status here: a company cannot simply decide it is dormant because nothing much has happened. What counts as a significant transaction, and therefore whether dormant accounts are appropriate, depends on your company's particular circumstances, so it is worth checking before you file.
Yes, in most cases. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes generally still has annual filing obligations, including filing accounts and delivering a confirmation statement, unless the company has been formally dissolved or another specific rule applies. Dormancy is not an exemption from all filing requirements, and treating it that way is one of the most common reasons directors find themselves dealing with late filing matters. The confirmation statement is a separate filing from the accounts: it confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company is still accurate, while the accounts deal with the financial period.
No. Companies House dormancy and HMRC Corporation Tax dormancy are separate concepts with separate rules. A company can be dormant for one purpose and not the other, and one status does not automatically produce the other. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not automatically notify HMRC that your company is dormant, and it does not automatically stop Corporation Tax obligations from applying. If you are unsure where your company stands with HMRC, it is worth reviewing that separately rather than assuming the Companies House position covers it.
Not always, but you cannot assume it is not needed purely because the company is dormant at Companies House. A Corporation Tax Return is an HMRC obligation, and whether one is required depends on your company's circumstances and its position with HMRC. Where a return is required, it is filed separately from the annual accounts and is not covered by the dormant company accounts filing made at Companies House. Directors should confirm the HMRC side of things directly, as the two filing streams run on different rules and different deadlines.
They are different in scope and content. A company with limited activity but not a fully dormant period may still be able to prepare simpler accounts under the small or micro-entity regimes, whereas a genuinely dormant company files accounts that reflect its dormant position. The requirements can also differ from those of an actively trading company. It is not safe to assume that every dormant company uses the same form or the same filing route, because eligibility depends on the company's circumstances and the applicable Companies House rules. Getting this wrong can mean a rejection and a further filing round.
Usually we need the company's basic details, the accounting period being filed, confirmation of the company's activity (or lack of it) during that period, and a clear picture of any transactions that did occur, such as bank charges, interest, or movements on a director's loan account. Those transactions often determine whether a dormant filing route is appropriate or whether a different set of accounts is needed. Details of any previous filings and the current Companies House record are also useful so that the filing is consistent with what has been submitted before.
Late filing can lead to consequences, and those consequences depend on the specific situation rather than following one fixed outcome. Companies House can apply late filing penalties in certain circumstances, and late filing is dealt with separately from any HMRC matters. Filing as early as possible in the period, and keeping your accounting records clear, reduces the chance of a last-minute problem. If you think a filing has already been missed, the practical step is to establish the current position and deal with the outstanding filing rather than wait for it to resolve itself.
