I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts filed with Companies House by a company that is dormant for Companies House purposes — broadly, a company with no significant accounting transactions during the accounting period. They are not a way of removing obligations: they are the accounts a qualifying dormant company is still expected to prepare and file for that period, so that its Companies House record stays up to date. The format and content required depend on the company's circumstances and the rules that apply, which is why it is worth checking your position each year rather than reusing a previous approach by default.
For Companies House purposes, a company is generally treated as dormant when it has had no significant accounting transactions during the relevant period. Some activity does not automatically break dormancy, while others do — for example, receiving trading income, paying suppliers or other parties, or significant financial movements would ordinarily mean the company is no longer dormant. Because the treatment of particular transactions can be fact-specific, directors should review what has actually happened in the company during the period before deciding that dormant accounts are appropriate. Being dormant is not the same as simply being quiet or having no new customers.
In most cases, yes. A company that remains registered at Companies House generally continues to have annual filing obligations, even if it is dormant, unless it has been formally dissolved or a specific rule applies to its situation. That usually includes filing annual accounts and a confirmation statement. Directors sometimes assume that dormancy removes the need to file anything at all, but dormant status generally changes what is filed rather than whether a filing is needed. If you are unsure what applies to your company, it is worth confirming your position early in the year rather than waiting until a filing date approaches.
A confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing from dormant company accounts, and a dormant company will usually still need to file one. It confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company — such as the registered office, directors, shareholders and share capital — is correct as at the confirmation date, or updates it where it is not. Filing dormant accounts does not satisfy the confirmation statement requirement, and filing a confirmation statement does not satisfy the accounts requirement. The two run alongside each other as part of your normal annual filing routine, and keeping both up to date helps avoid gaps on your company record.
Yes, in most cases dormant company accounts are simpler and shorter than accounts prepared for a trading company, because they do not need to report the same level of trading activity, income and expenditure. That said, dormant accounts are not a single universal template. The accounts a dormant company is expected to prepare, and the method used to file them, depend on its circumstances and the applicable Companies House rules. Some dormant companies may be able to use a shortened filing route, while others need to file full accounts or take a different approach. It is also worth remembering that a company can be dormant at Companies House but still need to account for certain matters elsewhere, such as with HMRC.
No. These are two distinct concepts with different rules and different authorities. A company may be dormant for Companies House purposes but not for Corporation Tax purposes, or vice versa, and one status does not automatically establish the other. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not notify HMRC of dormancy and does not resolve any Corporation Tax position. If your company has an HMRC dormancy position to confirm, or you are unsure whether Corporation Tax obligations still apply, that is a separate question from your Companies House filing and should be reviewed on its own terms.
A Corporation Tax Return (CT600) is a separate HMRC obligation from dormant company accounts, and whether one is required depends on the company's own circumstances and its position with HMRC. A company that is dormant for Corporation Tax purposes may not need to file a return for a period, but that needs to be established with HMRC rather than assumed from the fact that dormant accounts were filed at Companies House. Directing Companies House filings does not deal with HMRC, and HMRC does not receive your Companies House dormant accounts as a notification of dormancy. If you are unsure whether a return is due, it is best to clarify your HMRC position separately and promptly.
Typically you would provide details of the company's accounting period, confirmation that there were no significant accounting transactions during that period, and information about the company's financial position at the period end, such as any assets, liabilities or amounts owed. Details of the company structure, registered office and directors also help ensure the accounts and the accompanying Companies House information are consistent. If anything unusual happened during the period — for example, a bank charge, a small payment, or a change in share capital — mention it, as that can affect whether dormant accounts remain the right route. Having this information together before preparation begins usually makes the whole process smoother.
Yes, an accountant can prepare and file dormant company accounts on your behalf, along with supporting your confirmation statement obligations if you wish. This is often useful for directors who are unsure whether their company still qualifies as dormant, who want reassurance that the accounts are presented correctly for their circumstances, or who simply want the annual routine handled so it does not drift. Professional support does not remove your responsibilities as a director, and it does not guarantee any particular outcome at Companies House, but it can help you keep your filings accurate and submitted at the right time.
If annual accounts are filed after the filing deadline, Companies House can apply a late filing penalty, and the amount depends on the company's circumstances and how late the filing is. Dormant status does not in itself exempt a company from that position, and filing dormant accounts later does not remove a penalty that has already been applied. The practical step is to bring the filing up to date as soon as possible and to review what caused the delay, so the following year's dormant company filing is not affected in the same way.
It depends on where the company is in the closure process. While a company remains registered at Companies House, its annual filing obligations generally continue, so dormant accounts and a confirmation statement may still be due even if you intend to close the company or apply to strike it off. Once a company has been formally dissolved, it no longer files at Companies House. If your company is being wound up, dissolved or struck off, it is worth checking the position for the current period before assuming no further filings are needed, as the requirements can vary depending on the route being used and the stage reached.
