I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts prepared for a company that has been dormant for Companies House purposes during the accounting period. In simple terms, they reflect a company with no significant accounting transactions in that period, rather than the trading activity you would see in a normal set of accounts. They are still annual accounts, and they still have to be prepared in line with the applicable Companies House requirements and filed by the relevant deadline. The exact format and content depend on the company's circumstances and the rules in force for that period, so it is worth checking your position rather than assuming one standard document fits every case.
A company is generally treated as dormant for Companies House purposes when it has had no significant accounting transactions during the accounting period. Some transactions are typically disregarded for this test, while others can take a company outside dormancy, so the detail matters. Crucially, dormancy for Companies House is judged on the company's own position for that period — it is not something you can simply declare because trading has paused or because you have not yet started to trade. If you are unsure whether your company meets the test, it is worth reviewing the activity in the period before deciding how to file.
In most cases, yes. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes generally still has an annual accounts filing obligation, unless it has been formally dissolved or a specific rule applies to its circumstances. Dormancy changes what the accounts look like and how they are prepared, not whether a filing is needed at all. It is a common misconception that an inactive company has nothing to file, and that misunderstanding is one of the main reasons directors end up dealing with late filing issues. Confirming your company's position each year is the safest approach.
Yes — a confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing from dormant company accounts, and it is usually still required even when a company is dormant. It confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company, such as its registered office, directors and shareholders, is up to date. Filing dormant accounts does not satisfy the confirmation statement requirement, and filing a confirmation statement does not satisfy the accounts requirement. They are two distinct obligations, and both generally need to be dealt with for as long as the company remains registered.
No, and this is one of the most misunderstood areas of dormant company filing. Companies House dormancy and HMRC Corporation Tax dormancy are separate concepts with separate tests. A company can be dormant for Companies House purposes but not for Corporation Tax, or vice versa. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not automatically notify HMRC that your company is dormant, and it does not automatically stop Corporation Tax obligations applying. If you need to establish your Corporation Tax position, that should be reviewed separately, ideally with reference to HMRC's own guidance or professional advice.
It depends on your company's position with HMRC, which is a separate question from Companies House dormancy. A Corporation Tax Return (CT600) is an HMRC obligation, not a Companies House one, and whether one is required depends on factors such as whether HMRC has issued a notice to file and whether the company is dormant for Corporation Tax purposes. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not resolve this, because the two regimes are distinct. If HMRC has asked your company to file a return, that obligation needs to be addressed on its own terms.
As a starting point, we will typically need details of the company itself, the accounting period being filed, confirmation of the company's registered details, and an understanding of any activity or transactions that took place during that period — including anything you are unsure about. That last point matters, because transactions that seem minor can sometimes affect whether a company qualifies as dormant for Companies House purposes. We will also want to know whether a confirmation statement is due and whether there are any HMRC matters you would like us to flag. Once we understand the position, we can confirm what is required for your specific case.
Late filing of annual accounts at Companies House can lead to penalties and further action, and the consequences generally increase the longer the filing is overdue. Because dormant accounts are still annual accounts, the filing deadline still applies in the usual way. We cannot guarantee a particular outcome or have penalties removed, and we would never suggest leaving a filing to run late as a strategy. The sensible approach is to establish your filing date early and prepare the accounts in good time, so the submission is not left until the last moment.
