I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts prepared for a company that has been dormant for Companies House purposes during the relevant financial period. Because there has been no trading activity to report, they are typically much shorter than the accounts of an active company, usually focusing on the company's balance sheet position rather than a profit and loss account. They still form part of the company's statutory accounts and generally need to be filed at Companies House where the company meets the dormancy conditions and no other exemption applies. Not every company that has stopped trading will qualify, so the first step is always to check your company's circumstances against the current Companies House rules.
For Companies House purposes, a company is generally treated as dormant when it has had no significant accounting transactions during the financial year in question. A significant accounting transaction is one that the company is required to enter into its accounting records — for example sales, purchases, or paying expenses such as bank charges or insurance. Some transactions are usually disregarded for this test, including the taking of shares by the subscribers on incorporation and fees paid to Companies House. Because the position depends on what actually happened in the period, it is worth checking rather than assuming dormancy, particularly if money has moved in or out of the company's bank account.
In most cases, yes. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes remains a registered company, and registered companies generally have to prepare and file annual accounts for each financial year unless they have been formally dissolved or a specific exemption applies. Dormancy reduces the amount of information the accounts need to contain, but it does not usually remove the filing obligation itself. Some companies with very limited activity may be able to use a particular filing route or simplified format, and which one applies depends on individual circumstances and the rules in force for that period.
Yes. A confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing from the annual accounts, and a company that remains registered will normally need to file one at least once every 12 months, even if nothing about the company has changed. It confirms that the information Companies House holds — such as directors, shareholders, registered office address and share capital — is correct as at the confirmation date. Filing dormant company accounts does not satisfy the confirmation statement requirement, and filing a confirmation statement does not satisfy the accounts requirement. They are two distinct obligations and both need to be kept up to date.
No. These are two separate concepts, assessed against different tests and by different organisations. Companies House dormancy is about whether the company had significant accounting transactions during the financial year. HMRC dormancy is about whether the company is liable to Corporation Tax, for example whether it has any trading income or other income chargeable to Corporation Tax. A company can be dormant for one purpose but not the other. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not automatically notify HMRC of anything, so if you believe your company is also dormant for tax purposes you may need to contact HMRC separately about that side of things.
That depends on HMRC's view of your company rather than on your filing position at Companies House. If HMRC has not been told that the company is dormant for Corporation Tax purposes, it may still expect a Company Tax Return (CT600) for the period. Once HMRC accepts that a company is dormant for tax purposes, it will usually write to confirm that a return is not required, but that is a separate process from preparing and filing dormant company accounts. If your company has received a notice to deliver a return, HMRC will generally expect one to be filed unless it agrees otherwise.
We usually need your company name and registration number, the financial period the accounts cover, your accounting reference date, and details of the balance sheet items — such as share capital, any amounts owed to or by the company, and the bank balance. We also need the name of the director signing the accounts and your Companies House authentication code so the filing can be submitted. It helps to have your previous year's accounts to hand. If any transactions have taken place during the period, we will need the details so we can assess whether the company still qualifies as dormant or needs a different approach.
Companies House sets the filing deadline for annual accounts and has its own process for dealing with accounts that arrive after it. Late filing can lead to consequences under those rules, and the position depends on how late the filing is and on the company's circumstances. The sensible approach is to file as soon as you can and to check the current Companies House guidance for your situation rather than leaving it unaddressed. If a deadline has already passed, we can help you understand where you stand and get the accounts prepared and submitted without further delay.
