I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts prepared for a company that has been dormant for Companies House purposes during the relevant financial period. In broad terms, this means the company had no significant accounting transactions in that period, so the accounts reflect an inactive position rather than trading activity. The exact content and format depend on the company's circumstances and the rules that apply to it, which is why it is worth checking the position for your own company rather than relying on a general assumption.
For Companies House purposes, a company is generally treated as dormant when it has had no significant accounting transactions during the period. Things such as the initial issue of shares and certain other administrative or statutory transactions are normally disregarded for this purpose, but the detail matters and the rules do not apply identically in every situation. A company that has been trading, or that has received income or incurred expenditure of a trading nature, would usually fall outside the dormant definition for that period. Because the test looks at what actually happened in the period, it is not something a director can simply elect into.
Yes, in most cases a dormant company still has Companies House filing obligations. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes generally still needs to file annual accounts and a confirmation statement each year, unless the company has been formally dissolved or another specific rule applies. The confirmation statement is a separate filing from the accounts and confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company is correct, while the accounts are a financial filing. Treating dormancy as a blanket exemption from all filings is a common and costly misunderstanding.
They can be. A dormant company may have different accounting requirements from an active trading company, and the accounts it files will usually be simpler because there is no trading activity to report. That said, a dormant company is not automatically able to use the same form or the same filing route as every other dormant company; the correct approach depends on the company's circumstances and the applicable Companies House rules. For example, the AA02 form is sometimes associated with dormant accounts filing, but it is not a universal form suitable for every dormant company, so the right route should be confirmed before filing.
No, these are two separate concepts with two different purposes. A company can be dormant for Companies House purposes and still have Corporation Tax matters to deal with, or it may be dormant for Corporation Tax purposes while still having Companies House filing obligations. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not automatically notify HMRC of dormancy, and it does not by itself change a company's Corporation Tax position. If your company has any Corporation Tax questions, they need to be considered on their own terms.
That depends on the company's circumstances and on HMRC's view of its position, not on whether it is dormant at Companies House. A Corporation Tax Return (CT600) is a separate HMRC obligation from the annual accounts filed at Companies House, and it may still be required even where no trading has taken place. Some companies that HMRC accepts as dormant may not need to file a return, but this is not automatic and it does not follow from a Companies House dormant filing. It is worth confirming your position with HMRC or with an adviser rather than assuming one filing covers the other.
In most cases, we need basic company details such as the registered name, company number, registered office address and the period the accounts cover, along with confirmation that the company had no significant accounting transactions in that period. Details of any transactions that did take place are also important, because they can affect whether the dormant position applies at all. If there have been changes to the company's records, directors or accounting reference date, it helps to have those to hand too, so the accounts and any related filings are prepared on a consistent basis.
It can, and this is one of the areas where the dormant definition needs care. Receiving bank charges or bank interest, or making payments of a particular type, may or may not affect whether the company can be treated as dormant for Companies House purposes, depending on what the transaction was and how the rules apply. Because a single transaction can change the picture for a period, it is sensible to tell us about anything that has moved through the company's bank account, however small it seems, before the accounts are prepared and filed.
