I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts filed with Companies House by a company that has been dormant for Companies House purposes during the accounting period. They are simpler than the accounts of a trading company because there is normally very little to report — typically a balance sheet and limited notes rather than a full profit and loss account. What the accounts must contain, and which filing route is available, depends on the company's own circumstances and the Companies House rules that apply at the time. Not every dormant company files in the same way, so it is worth checking your position before assuming a particular form or format is the right one for you.
For Companies House purposes, a company is generally treated as dormant when it has had no significant accounting transactions during the accounting period. In practice that means no trading income, no sales, no purchases of goods or services for the business and no other material financial activity. Certain transactions are usually disregarded when assessing dormancy, but the detail matters and the answer can depend on exactly what has happened in your company. This is where many directors in Great Yarmouth get caught out: a single overlooked transaction can change how the year should be reported, so it is worth reviewing your bank activity and records before deciding how to file.
Yes, in most cases it does. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes generally still has to file annual accounts, unless it has been formally dissolved or another specific rule applies. Being dormant is not the same as being exempt from filing, and Companies House does not treat dormancy as a reason to stop sending accounts. If your company is registered, assume there is an annual accounts requirement until you have confirmed otherwise for your own circumstances.
A confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing from dormant company accounts, and a dormant company will usually still need to file one. The confirmation statement confirms that the information Companies House holds about your company — such as the registered office, directors, shareholders and share capital — is accurate as at the confirmation date. It is not a set of accounts and it does not replace your annual accounts, and your annual accounts do not replace it. Both obligations can apply in the same year, so it helps to treat them as two distinct tasks on your compliance calendar.
Yes, they are usually much shorter and simpler. The accounts of an active trading company generally include a profit and loss account, a balance sheet and detailed notes, along with the disclosures required for that company's size and activities. Dormant company accounts generally focus on a balance sheet with limited supporting notes, because there has been no significant accounting activity to report. That said, a dormant company may have different accounting requirements from an active trading company in other ways too, and the exact content depends on the company's circumstances and the applicable Companies House rules rather than a single fixed template.
No, these are two separate concepts and it is a common source of confusion. Companies House dormancy is about whether the company has had significant accounting transactions for the purposes of its annual accounts. HMRC dormancy is about your Corporation Tax position, and HMRC applies its own tests. A company can be dormant for one purpose and not the other, and filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not automatically tell HMRC that your company is dormant or change your Corporation Tax obligations. If you are unsure where your company stands with HMRC, that needs to be checked separately.
A Corporation Tax Return (CT600) is an HMRC obligation and is entirely separate from Dormant Company Accounts Filing at Companies House. Whether your company needs to file a CT600 depends on your company's Corporation Tax position and what HMRC has asked for, which may not match your Companies House dormant status. Some dormant companies are asked to complete a return, while others are not, and the answer depends on your particular circumstances. Because the two regimes run independently, it is worth confirming your HMRC position rather than assuming that dormant accounts cover it.
To prepare your dormant company accounts we normally need your company name and number, the accounting period being reported, details of the registered office and directors, and confirmation that there were no significant accounting transactions in that period. It also helps to see the previous year's accounts and any bank statements or records for the period, so we can check that nothing has been missed. If you are unsure whether a particular transaction affects your dormant position, tell us about it — it is far easier to deal with before filing than afterwards. A short conversation about your records is usually all it takes to get started.
