I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts a company prepares for Companies House when it has been dormant for that purpose during the accounting period. Instead of a full set of figures covering trading income and expenditure, the accounts reflect the company's dormant position, subject to the applicable rules. They are still formal statutory accounts, still prepared for a defined accounting period, and still filed at Companies House where required. Dormant company accounts are not the same as a confirmation statement, a Corporation Tax Return, a VAT Return or a payroll filing, all of which are separate obligations with their own deadlines and their own rules.
Broadly, a company is dormant for Companies House purposes where it has had no significant accounting transactions during the relevant period. Not every movement of money counts in the same way, and some transactions are treated differently from others, so the position depends on what actually happened in the company rather than on the director's intention. A company that has never traded may still not qualify as dormant if certain transactions have taken place. Because the tests depend on the specific facts and on current Companies House rules, the sensible approach is to look at the company's activity for the period in question before deciding which accounts to prepare and file.
In most cases, yes. Dormant status is not an exemption from all filing obligations. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes generally still needs to file annual accounts and a confirmation statement each year, unless the company has been formally dissolved or another specific rule applies to its circumstances. Assuming that dormancy removes the need to file is one of the most common and easily avoided mistakes directors make. If you are unsure whether accounts are still due for a particular period, it is worth confirming the position rather than leaving it to chance.
A confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing from dormant company accounts, and in most cases a dormant company still needs to file one. The confirmation statement confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company, such as its registered office, directors, shareholders and share capital, is correct as at the confirmation date. It is not a set of accounts and it does not report profits or losses. Because the two filings are distinct, dealing with your dormant company accounts does not take care of the confirmation statement, and vice versa. Keeping both up to date is part of managing an inactive company properly.
No, these are separate concepts and they are assessed by different bodies against different rules. A company can be dormant for Companies House purposes but not for HMRC, or the other way around. That means a company's dormant filing position at Companies House tells you nothing definitive about its Corporation Tax position. Filing dormant company accounts with Companies House does not automatically notify HMRC that the company is dormant, and it does not automatically end Corporation Tax obligations. If you want to understand your position with HMRC, that needs to be looked at separately, often with direct contact with HMRC or tailored advice.
It depends on the company's circumstances and on what HMRC has asked for. A company that is dormant for Corporation Tax purposes is generally not expected to file a Company Tax Return for a period in which it was dormant, unless HMRC has issued a notice requiring one. However, dormancy for Corporation Tax is a distinct status from dormancy for Companies House, so you cannot assume that a dormant company accounts filing covers this. Where a company has any doubt about its Corporation Tax position, or has received correspondence from HMRC, it is best to confirm the requirement directly rather than relying on assumptions.
Typically you will need the company's registered details, the accounting period being reported on, and enough information about the company's activity during that period to confirm whether it qualifies as dormant for Companies House purposes. Details of any transactions, bank activity, or changes to the company's structure can all be relevant, because they may affect whether a dormant filing route is available and which form or format applies. Because the requirements depend on the company's circumstances, the quickest way to move forward is to have your company information and records to hand and let an accountant confirm what is needed in your case.
Yes. Accountants regularly prepare and submit dormant company accounts and confirmation statements on behalf of directors, including for companies with no trading activity. Using an accountant can help you confirm whether your company is dormant for Companies House purposes, prepare the right accounts for your circumstances, and keep track of the annual filings that remain due. It also means someone is checking that the filing position still makes sense year on year, rather than repeating the same approach regardless of any changes in the company's activity.
