I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts prepared for a company that has been dormant for Companies House purposes during the relevant financial period. In broad terms, that means the company had no significant accounting transactions in that period. The accounts are prepared in a simplified format compared with the accounts of a trading company and are filed at Companies House where the company is required to file. Whether a company can use this route depends on its circumstances and the applicable Companies House rules for that period, so the correct format and filing method should be confirmed before anything is submitted.
For Companies House purposes, a company is generally treated as dormant when it has had no significant accounting transactions during the period covered by the accounts. A company does not simply become dormant because it has stopped trading in a commercial sense, or because its director considers it inactive. Certain transactions, even small or administrative ones, can affect the position. If you are unsure whether your company qualifies, it is worth reviewing the activity in the period against the rules before deciding which accounts to prepare and file.
In most cases, yes. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes generally still needs to file annual accounts and a confirmation statement each year unless it has been formally dissolved or another specific rule applies to it. Dormant status does not switch off these obligations. The confirmation statement is a separate filing from the annual accounts and does not replace them; it confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company is correct. Treating the two as one obligation is a common misunderstanding.
They can be. A dormant company may have different accounting requirements from an active trading company. Where dormancy applies, the accounts are usually simpler and reflect the fact that there has been no significant accounting activity, rather than presenting a full profit and loss account and detailed notes. That said, the requirements depend on the company's circumstances and the current Companies House rules, and not every dormant company can use the same form or filing route, so the right approach should be checked rather than assumed.
No, these are separate concepts. Being dormant for Companies House purposes does not automatically make a company dormant for Corporation Tax with HMRC, and the reverse is also true. Each has its own criteria and its own process, and a company can be dormant for one purpose but not the other. Filing dormant accounts at Companies House does not notify HMRC of dormancy and does not, on its own, change your Corporation Tax position. If you think your company may also be dormant for tax purposes, that needs to be addressed separately with HMRC.
That depends on your company's position with HMRC, which is separate from its status at Companies House. A Corporation Tax Return, often referred to as a CT600, is an HMRC obligation rather than a Companies House one, and whether one is due depends on factors such as whether HMRC has issued a notice to deliver a return and whether the company has been treated as dormant for tax purposes. Being dormant at Companies House does not by itself remove Corporation Tax duties, so it is worth confirming the position directly with HMRC rather than relying on the accounts filing alone.
It can have small transactions, but they matter. Dormancy for Companies House purposes generally requires that there have been no significant accounting transactions in the period, and certain items, such as bank charges, interest, or payments to keep a company registered, can affect whether the simplified dormant accounts route applies. If transactions of this kind have gone through the company, the position should be reviewed before the accounts are prepared so the filing reflects the company's actual activity for that period. Where the transactions are more substantial, a different form of accounts may be needed.
We normally need the company name and registered number, the accounting reference date, details of the period being reported, confirmation that no significant accounting transactions took place, and any transactions that did occur so we can assess whether the dormant accounts route is appropriate. Information about the company's officers, registered office and share capital helps us check the accounts against the records Companies House already holds. If a confirmation statement is also due, we can work from the same core information, which keeps the annual filing process straightforward.
